A storm is approaching, and we cannot wait to jump around in the rain singing extremely loudly! SuRie has released the long-awaited music video for ‘Taking It Over’ and we are LOVING it. The track’s elements are brought to life in a video which is minimalist yet completely beautiful, with SuRie and a female dancer interacting through intricate choreography. It’s assumed they are the couple the song is about. SuRie’s video feels intimate and close and really draws the viewer in.

SuRie works her signature pixie cut, and her make-up is natural yet completely stunning. The Eurovision star looks divine, with a blonder hair colour than her signature pastel pink she was rocking in Lisbon.

‘Taking It Over’ was released at the end of May, and had Eurovision fans gushing about its modern and sleek sound. This only fuels the fire among UK Eurofans who want SuRie back again next year. It’s also a reminder of her songwriting ability. Many argued that she should’ve performed a song she had written herself at Eurovision. We hope to see her back at You Decide to hear more of what she’s got in this respect.

Hey, hey brother…

SuRie’s staging in Lisbon revolved around a ‘tunnel’ of LED frames.

The clip has been crafted by Dan Shipton of Black Skull Creative, who has worked with artists including Taylor Swift, Will.I.Am and Dua Lipa (he designed her opening show at the UEFA Champions League Final this year in Kyiv). He has also been the creative director behind UK Eurovision entries since 2015. This means he was the visionary behind THAT staging from Lucie Jones’ performance, which we’re still obsessed with.

Dane Bates choreographed the video, who has crafted pieces for Britain’s Got Talent (series 10), as well as putting dance routines for various cruise lines and teaching masterclasses as world-renowned theatre schools Italia Conte and the Guildford School of Acting.

She’s taking it over…

SuRie is currently doing a short tour of stripped-back performances. They feature her own singer-songwriter style music, with SuRie working the piano while giving us new tracks from her upcoming album, as well as covers and of course her Eurovision anthem ‘Storm’. She is doing shows in three UK cities: London, Birmingham and finishing in Maidstone, Kent. The concerts will be set in Pizza Express restaurants as part of their Pizza Express Live shows. Tickets are available here, priced at £20.

What do you think of the video? Do you want SuRie to come back to Eurovision with something in this style? Let us know below in the comments, and tell us what you’d love to see from the social media queen in future!

I really like this song! They should “select SuRie internal” to represent the UK in 2019 again, and then make a national final, “Saara-Aalto-like” <3

I don’t want to finish on the right hand side of the board again. We should send someone big and achieve a top 10 or top 5 placing. SuRie just doesn’t have that potential sadly!

Well, with the right song she could finish on the left hand side. It’s all about the song. But how about sending Sam Smith? He is an LGBT (and James Bond) icon 🙂

He won’t do it. He is far too successful to do it and seeing as he has won major awards for his music fairly recently and the amount of records and albums he has sold over his career. I also believe he is illegible to compete due to the amount of music he has sold. SuRie however not only deserves it but, is one of the best imports to the Eurovision Song Contest from the UK since Katrina and the Waves. The artist or the song isn’t the problem its the host broadcaster aka the BBC not taking it seriously… Read more »

Sam Smith’s sales success would not rule him out of Eurovision. There’s no rule that says Eurovision acts can’t be hugely successful artists. If that were the case, we would not have seen Sergey Lazarev. Or Engelbert Humperdinck.
