Back in July, Serhat released a collaboration with Helena Paparizou. The Turkish television producer and the Greek-Swedish Eurovision winner teamed up to record a new version of Serhat’s 2004 single “Total Disguise”. Now the music video has been released and with it, the pair take us on a sensual journey.

The video is filmed in a sunny coastal location, where both the sky and sea are bright blue. Initially, Helena and Serhat can be seen separately: she on a swing, and he standing on a pier. But it’s when they come together that the magic happens.

As if unable to resist the lyrical desire of the song, Helena and Serhat can be found together in a white muslin tent, tenderly embracing. There’s genuine chemistry between the musical pair — they don’t feel like two people forced to make a music video together.

The video concludes with a moody night-time setting. Helena emerges from the sea, like Ursula Andress’ iconic scene in the James Bond film Dr No. Serhat joins the salty Helena by some tiki torches and the couple finally embrace. There’s a lot of embracing in this video.

“Total Disguise” has been a staple in Serhat’s singing career. He originally released the song in 2004 as a duet with the French-Belgian singer Viktor Lazlo. If her name sounds familiar, she borrowed it from the Casablanca character Victor Laszlo, but she may be more familiar as the host of Eurovision 1987.

In 2008, Serhat released a Russian version, “Я + Ты” (“You and I), sung with the Georgian singer Tamara Gverdtsiteli. Serhat revealed himself to be a cunning linguist, delivering the Russian lyrics in his trademark seductive tones.

And now the song is getting a third go-round, with Helena Paparizou serving Greek-Swedish Eurovision diva realness.

The music has also been given a revamp and introduces modern electronic sounds and club beats. It’s the perfect accompaniment to Serhat’s growl and Paparizou’s honeyed vocals. And now the music video adds an extra dimension, deepening the emotions of the song.

Just curious, even though it’s off-topic: aren’t there still, like, two more countries that haven’t been covered for the 10 Reasons Why series? I don’t think Armenia and Australia have had their moments yet.

Serhat gets all the women. 😛
As for Helena, opting out singing “Fuego” but agreeing to sing this song is bad judgement, in my opinion. From a musical point of view, as I am aware she did not want to go to Eurovision and singing “Fuego” was dependent on that.
