He’s a five-time winner of “Best Selling Russian Artist” at the World Music Awards and the genius behind some of Russia’s most beloved Eurovision entries ever.

And today Philipp Kirkorov is proving his longevity and staying power once more by topping the iTunes charts in five countries with “Mood Color Black” — a re-working of his song “Mood Color Blue” in collaboration with fellow Russian star Egor Kreed.

The undeniably danceable track has been making waves all over, reaching the top spot in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Russia and Ukraine, while also climbing in Lithuania, Moldova, Israel and Tajikistan. On Apple Music it’s hit #1 in ten different countries.

Writing on Instagram, he thanked Egor Kreed — the popular singer (“Samaya, Samaya”) who he credits with creating the concept of the remix.

Kreed has long been a favourite of wiwibloggs to sing at Eurovision, and we keep our fingers crossed that his next collaboration with Kirkorov may take him to ESC.

“My congratulations to the author of this track ‘Mood Color Black’ and the initiator of this idea — @egorkreed!,” Kirkorov wrote. “I congratulate us on 13 million views of the clip on Youtube in three days! This is another absolute record for the country!”

The video is hilariously over-the-top and lavish. It centers around a music video director re-working Philipp’s “Mood Color Blue” (which came out in may) as “Mood Color Black” — a more R&B/hip-hop version of his pop-tastic original.

Philipp plays a total diva in Carnival-like feathers and a cape who travels to barber shop in a very stretched stretch limo. The video opens with him totally dismissing the idea of transforming his song into something more rap and hip-hop.

But over the course of the video Philipp is won over by the setting, the tattoos and the urban feel, resulting in a totally new vision that’s very street.

We first fell in love with the original version of the song at Philipp’s 51st birthday bash in Lisbon where the Eurovision 1995 singer treated us to a performance (and a massive eight-tier birthday cake).

“Mood Color Black” lyrics — English translation

[Video version]:
Philip Kirkorov: Vanya, Vanya (appeal to Ivan Urgant).
I already told you that I do not like this idea.
Do not like it, you understand? I do not like. Yeah?
All, I’m sorry – I have a second line.
Egor Creed: Philip Bedrosovich? Hello.
Philip Kirkorov: Yes, Yegorushka!
Yegor Creed: And how long will you be?
– I drive up already, I drive up.
( To Timati: Says, arrives …)
I’ll be right back.
– Thank you. We wait.

[Dialogue in the firm store of Timati]:
Philip Kirkorov: Well, why
did you call me in the middle of the night in this barber shop?
Yegor Creed: Well, actually, we need to shoot a clip.
Timati: Actually, then, we need to sign
Philip Bedrosovich to the label BLACKSTAR.
Sign the contract with him, as with the new Artist.
Philip Kirkorov: [Laughter]. On what terms?
Timati: Philip Bedrosovich, let’s agree!
Yegor Creed: But there is one single condition:
The mood color is not blue, but black.
Philip Kirkorov: Black? Hmm …
Timati: Philip Bedrosovich, we’ll raise
you to a whole new level!

[A secret door opens]:
Philip Kirkorov: Oh, Egor! How will I get here !? Gopodi. Where are we going.
Egor Creed: Philip Bedrosovich, we’re going to make history.

[Introduction, Yegor Creed]:
My mood color is black.
Phil! Hey!
Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!

[Chorus, Yegor Creed + Phillip Kirkorov]:
My mood color is black (mood color is black)
Mood color black (black, black)
My mood color is black (black, black)
Mood color black (piu, piu, piu, uh!)

The mood color is black.
On the lips, lipstick, the color is liqueur.
She’s in black.
She feels so much like a goddess.
(Body as Lamborghini)

[Verse 1, Yegor Creed]:
I left the house chose black color (yes!)
All my bitches like black color (yes)
All my cars are strictly black (wroom-wroom!)
All my gang likes black color (black color) !!

I choose brunettes, although not against blondes,
But they are always last, e!
Roker jeans, black leather is the principle.
The stone is shining on the little finger, we are on the “black horses” of the prince.

[Transition, Yegor Creed]:
Okay, okay, okay! I like white and yellow gold.
Okay, okay, okay! Dressed stylishly, but stylishly does not mean that it’s expensive.
Though it’s expensive. What will I put on tomorrow, this question is controversial,
But today (what today?)

[Chorus, Yegor Creed + Phillip Kirkorov]:
My mood color is black (mood color is black).
Mood color black (black, black).
My mood color is black (ha, ha, ha, black, black)
Mood color black (piu, piu, piu!)

The mood color is black.
On the lips, lipstick, the color is liqueur.
She’s in black.
She feels so much like a goddess.
(Body as Lamborghini)

[Verse 2, Phillip Kirkorov]:
Your mother is at my concert.
All your family members are at my concert.
Pythagoras does not count all my hits.
Timati does not count all my ponty.

I’m cocky, every year on the hip.
In her hands, Martini, plus it on the style –
On a black style, but I’m on style.
Everything that soon will be released in Louis, we already bought.

[Transition, Philip Kirkorov]:
My bunny, I’m your bunny, my voice is pop.
Yes, I am a gentle bastard, because I’m chocolate.
What will I put on tomorrow – this question is controversial (yes)
But today (what today?)

[Chorus, Yegor Creed + Phillip Kirkorov]:
My mood color is black (mood color is black)
Mood color black (black, black)
My mood color is black (ha, ha, ha, black, black)
Mood color black (piu, piu, piu)

The mood color is black.
On the lips, lipstick, the color is liqueur.
She’s in black.
She feels so much like a goddess.
The mood color is black.
On the lips, lipstick, the color is liqueur (the color is liqueur).
She’s in black.
She feels so much like a goddess.

My mood color is black (mood color is black)
Mood color black (black, black)
My mood color is black (ha, ha, ha, black, black)
Mood color black (pi, piu, piu)!

[Final, video version]:
Egor Creed: Well, Phil? On the phone!
Philip Kirkorov: In touch, bro!
Fan of Philip Kirkorov: Egor Creed?
Yegor Creed: Yes ?!
Fan of Philip Kirkorov:
This is for you for our King – Philip Bedrosovich.

Vyster. Yegor Creed is alive.

This is a remix of his Loboda-sounding song, right?
Edit: Nevermind, it’s been said in the article already.

I have to give credit to Kirkorov, though. The Russian music industry has been boring af in the past ten years, with pop music all impersonal and sounding the same + sung by untalented people who clearly went to bed with someone in order to obtain a career. Kirkorov on the other hand can value the worst of vocalists and make original productions.

I thought that’s a universal thing, not a Russian.

What is happening?
I’m scared.
If the Russians have taken over, I want to go on record saying that I have always rooted for them and I wouldn’t mind some eight-tier birthday cake myself. You know, as long as it’s not…
Also, Kirkorov has an assistant who counts his chart positions, right? He’s not that obsessed that he goes counting them himself, I hope.

Hi William:
a slightly more accurate title translation from Russian is “The Color of My Mood is Black”

You should go and watch the British tv series Yonderland. One of the main villainds, Negatus (played by Simon Farnaby) just looks like Kirkorov.

What are the lyrics I have just read? Why is Philip Kirkorov looking like a baby with bling bling?
