Ahead of Glennis Grace‘s performance in the grand final of America’s Got Talent, popular Dutch comedy show Zondag met Lubach has released a video satirising Glennis’ “struggling single mom” backstory on AGT. The comedy show rightly points out that Glennis is a huge star with decades of experience.

Over the next two days, Glennis Grace faces the grand final of America’s Got Talent. As well as winning over American audiences, she still has a lot of support back home in the Netherlands — but there’s one aspect of her AGT experience that isn’t sitting right for Dutch viewers.

America’s Got Talent — well known for portraying the emotional back histories of its contestants — has pitched Glennis as a plucky solo mother, bravely doing it all for her son. The show is turning a blind eye to Glennis’ decades of professional success in the Netherlands.

And that’s where Zondag met Lubach has stepped in. The popular comedy show — known internationally for the “The Netherlands welcomes Trump in his own words” video from 2017 — has made their own version of an emotional profile of Glennis Grace.

Note: the video’s introduction is in Dutch (with English subtitles available) but the main video is in English.

The video notes that Glennis’s career has been set back by such heartbreaking achievements as winning the Dutch version of Stars in their Eyes, winning the Nationaal Songfestival in performing at Eurovision, having hit singles and gold records, and competing in De beste zangers van Nederland.

And “just when it couldn’t get any worse, she gave birth to a healthy son”. So how did this struggling single mom cope? “To make ends meet, she worked long hours, selling out concert halls and theatres every day. Life was tough.”

The comedy show isn’t mocking Glennis Grace — rather, there’s a real sense of admiration for all the impressive achievements she’s racked up over the past two decades. The target of the video is America’s Got Talent and the sense that an artist’s achievements don’t mean anything until four judges on an American talent show notice her.

Earlier this week Glennis appeared on the Dutch show RTL Boulevard, where she spoke about the challenges of her America’s Got Talent journey. The show hosts also got fans excited by hinting at a Eurovision return for Glennis.

The grand final of America’s Got Talent takes place on Tuesday night, American time, with the results show on Wednesday night.

How do you think Glennis will do at the AGT grand final? Should the Netherlands send Glennis to Tel Aviv? Tell us what you think below!

Who cares really when they’ve had winners from Albania’s and Asia’s Got Talent joining the show as contestants?? so why can’t a struggling professional singer who hasn’t made it big yet try her luck as well??

One of the main reasons I stopped watching AGT. They turned it into a sob story contest over a talent competition.

LOL @ “And despite performing at the Eurovision Song Contest, she never gave up on her dream: becoming a professional singer”. I’m wearing a smile I won’t be able to get rid of for the rest of the day, possibly even the entire week. 😛

On a more serious note though: Performing at Eurovision has got to be better than performing in front of Heidi Klum, though. Not even Karl knows that unlikable bock of ice. Neither does Claudia. She was never in Paris! Just saying.
