Dutch singer Glennis Grace has conquered the American stage, reaching the final of America’s Got Talent and receiving a standing ovation for her final performance of “Run”.

Between the semi-final and final of the American talent show, Dutch gossip programme RTL Boulevard interviewed Glennis about her American adventure and announced that she had a big announcement for her home country.

The show’s panelists hinted that it had something to do with Eurovision, as Eurovision 2009 alumn Gordon mysteriously said: “I’m not going to say anything about it”.

Just hours before the results of the final of America’s Got Talent, the Amsterdam native spoke with RTL Boulevard again. This time she expressly denied the rumours that the show itself had spread about Eurovision participation.

When the interviewer asked Glennis if she wanted to try Eurovision once more, she immediately responded: “Na-ah! Nooooo! It’s something fun to do once, but then it’s finished.”

It comes as no surprise as Glennis Grace has mostly bad memories about the contest in which she took part in 2005. Her entry “My Impossible Dream” failed to impress viewers and stayed in the semi.

But that is not her only bad memory of the contest. In 2011, the singer revealed that her participation at Eurovision left her with an eating disorder as she was told that her arms were “too big according to the people in the first rows”. This situation also caused a split from her then manager.

However, Glennis has gone on to have a successful career in Dutch showbiz, especially after her participation in De Beste Zangers which scored her a golden record with a cover of Volumia!’s “Afscheid”.

Satirical show Zondag met Lubach recently parodied AGT’s portrayel of Glennis as an undiscovered single-mom with a dream to sing, jokingly saying that in order to make ends meet, she sang in sold-out theatres and arenas.

She thinks she can’t qualify for the final.

Glennis is a fantastic singer, and much improved since 2005, however her song back then was much too ordinary and cliched. It felt like a wasted oppertunity

Oh wow. I am crying. Sobbing, really. How will the Netherlands cope? No big diva ballad! Why, diva ballads ALWAYS win Eurovision!

I would have liked to see her return, but whatever.

To me, she sacrifices more of her dignity by appearing on America’s Got Talent. I can never understand these artists who refuse to do the Eurovision Song Contest but have no problem appearing on trash reality TV.

I couldn’t agree more. And to sing for these particular judges is as dishonorable as it gets for me. At Eurovision on the other hand, you can be as dignified as you choose to be.

That’s what I feel too.

I’m glad. The Netherlands have been my favorite country since 2013 and they have better stuff and plenty of musicians who can write their own songs.
“Big announcement” is code for “I don’t have any actual news but I still want attention”.

I hope my country tries something else this year. We’ve been doing this country/folk stuff for way too long now. Rochelle, Sharon Doorson or Eva Simons could totally bring a Fuego 2.0 to Eurovision.

Every second year xD
In 2014, 2016 and with Waylon in 2018 lol
I trust The Netherlands anyway to bring quality
Wasn’t a huge fan of Waylons’ entry this year but it deserved to qualify, plus their other entries were amazing! <3

You forgot that Joan Franka had some country vibes in 2012 , but you’re still right 😉

I can live with that. I think it would be fun to see Ilse deLange again after waylon last year. It would also be cool if we’d send a band like kensington or bløf.

It would be my dream, but sadly I think she’s not concidering it, basing on interviews in May…

Ilsa has the good sense to know that lightning is unlikely to strike twice. Realistically, what are the chances of her coming back and winning? Anything else would be deemed failure. She’s not gonna do a Waylon.
