Cezar Ouatu served bejewelled vampire realness for Romania at Eurovision 2013 in Malmö. Several months later, Gaia Cauchi secured Malta’s first Junior Eurovision win. And on Saturday night the two singers faced the judges and audience as the final weekend of X Factor UK auditions reaches its conclusion.

Sporting a cowboy hat and leather jacket, Cezar explained he was born in Romania but grew up in Italy.

“It was a long journey for me but I’m really, really happy to be here tonight. For me it’s a great moment because this is one of my biggest dreams today…” — before Simon Cowell cheekily replied “…to meet me?”.

His countertenor rendition of “Nessun Dorma” impressed the judges, who gave Cezar a standing ovation.

Later in the show, Gaia Cauchi — 15 at the time of filming — arrived on stage with her mum and dad watching on backstage with host Dermot O’Leary.

“I wanted to apply when I was younger but I think now is the right time,” she explained to the judges. She tackled the Paloma Faith single “Only Love Can Hurt Like This”, but unfortunately her audition was cut short by Robbie Williams.

“You’re incredibly charismatic and I think you have The X Factor but I think your age is a concern”, he said before suggesting Gaia should have a go at being in a group. Although there’s no mention on whether Gaia joined a group during the show, the judges gave her four yeses.

What did you think of their auditions? Should Gaia be in a group or is she better off as a solo artist? Share your thoughts below!

Wishing them luck. Always enjoyed Its My Life for the camp value if nothing else.

What a dumb reason for robbie to cut the performance short… If the x factor producers put 15 as the age limit to compete, you can’t use it as an argument against her.

If Gaia Cauchi can’t represent Malta at Eurovision Song Contest 2019, maybe compete in San Marino’s selectio, 1 in 360. 🙂

It doesn’t look like 1 In 360 will be affiliated with San Marino this year. And Gaia’s X Factor UK journey isn’t over yet…

Eurovision is seen as rubbish for nobodies in the UK. It’s laughable for them and only seen as a last minute resort

They mentioned it with Slavko last year – but I’m sure that’s because he fits the stereotype of a “crazy Eurovision act”.

Is there a certain quota of ex-Eurovision participants the X-Factor UK has to fulfill?

Can we just talk about the fact that Maltese accent sounds cute as hell?! I mean she is already cute, but the accent makes her even more cute.

Wish good luck to both of them. I Would actually love to see Cezar representing Romania once again in the future.
