Melodifestivalen 2019 is just around the corner. SVT has already confirmed dates and locations for next year’s contest, but acts from previous years have been busy in the studio with new releases. Let’s take a look at what some of our Melfest favourites have been up to in 2018, with new music from Oscar Zia, Molly Sandén, Molly Hammar and Isa, as well as a song written by Krista Siegfrids.
Oscar Zia – “Betong”
Oscar Zia is keeping things simple and Swedish in his latest release “Betong” (“Concrete”). The 2016 runner-up is dishing up monochrome realness and plenty of skin in the raw pop ballad. “Betong” marks a stellar continuation in Oscar’s evolution as an artist and we can’t wait to see the next chapter.
Molly Sandén – “Sand”
She put the you in “Youniverse” and now she’s putting the “Sand” in Sandén. Molly slows things down in “Sand”, an emotional and layered ballad that shows off her powerful voice. Now equipped with an army of puns in her repertoire, we would love to see this new-look Molly at Melfest.
Molly Hammar – “Company” (with Paul Rey)
Molly Hammar released her EP Blossom earlier this year. She now appears as a featured artist on Paul Rey’s single “Company” and broadens her music catalogue with a stripped-down but alluring performance.
Isa – “Shy”
Isa is not one to be shy. After releasing “Perfect” in 2018, she returns with “Shy”, packaged with a heavy beat. This is arguably one of her best singles to date, as Isa sounds expensive and polished, exploring sensual subject matter. Don’t stop, Isa!
Krista Siegfrids – “Bingle Bangle” (as songwriter)
Changing gear from singles released by Melfest artists to singles written by one. Krista Siegfrids has made a name for herself in Sweden and Finland, and it seems South Korea is her next destination. Earlier this year, K-Pop group AOA released their EP and lead single “Bingle Bangle”, co-written by the Finnish songstress. The song has accrued over 20 million views on YouTube and marks a great achievement in the career of Krista Siegfrids. The world is her oyster!
What do you think of this latest batch of Swedish music releases? Which artists do you want to see at Melfest 2019? Let us know in the comments below.
Krista wrote Bingle Bangle!? I had no idea.
Gotta have Molly P.H. to try again.
I might be one of few who thinks some Swedish artists shouldn’t sing in Swedish because it doesn’t fit them. Oscar Zia is one of them. It sounds like every single Swedish track out there! Nothing remarkable!
That is probably why almost every one of them brings an English-language song to Eurovision.
I don’t think it’s the language. More of his style change.
