While some countries are yet to confirm for Eurovision 2019, Germany is well into their selection process. The German national selection started earlier this year, and now the number of remaining contestants is becoming ever smaller. Over the next few days, the 20 remaining acts will take part in a workshop in Cologne.
Back in August, the Eurovision fan jury reviewed the shortlisted 198 acts. Following hours of rating singers and their respective work, 20 acts received an invitation to attend the workshop.
The selection process is structured the same as last year. During the next couple of days, the candidates will record short performance clips to show their character, their tone, as well as their prefered genre of music.

The recorded videos will then be shown to the fan jury and the 20 international experts. These groups will then determine the national final competitors. Earlier this year, NDR entertainment director Thomas Schreiber revealed that there may be up to ten acts in the final show.
First contestants revealed
Along with the start of the workshop, three candidates are now known. BB Thomaz impressed judges at The Voice of Germany 2017 with her blind audition of “Bang Bang”. The audition clip has now been viewed over three million times on YouTube.
Further contestants include Sebastian Schub — a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from Hamburg — and Nicole Cross, who gained public attention when she teamed up with German Eurovision winner Lena to cover “This Is What You Came For” by Calvin Harris and Rihanna.
The national final will once again be hosted by Barbara Schöneberger, whose return was revealed earlier this month. While there is no date announced just yet, the German head of delegation Christoph Pellander did say that it would “take place sometime in the last two weeks of February”.

Nina Kutschera is the next artist
Wincent Weiss please or Laing ,but this 3 are all okay we must wait for the last 17 artists ,only 10 can do it in the final
I don’t understand why they only release 3 of the 20 names – this seems a little bit biased to me.
They work with 3 friday, then the next today, the others tomorrow, monday and tuesday. But not all wan´t to get known at the moment, because it´s not sure that they´ll be in the final line up for the national final. So some keep it as their secret. Wich is absolutly okay.
Thanks for this info, I did not know.
Hope for Laing!
Oh yes please! Did they apply?
Don´t know, last year they we´re among the top 20, but didin´t took part because of her work for the new album wich was released last month. So hopefully this time. 🙂
Yas for Nicole!!!! She’s sooo amazing and with a killer song Germany could be once again in the Top 5
Thanks for this. Again no song in German – I was hoping for it.
Who says that?
Me thinks a Swedish-like entry is underway.
You might be right 🙁
The only one that is a potential out of those 3 is Nicole. The other two seem a bit meh for me. But, there’s still more to go of course!
Well, Nicole Cross is quite bigger and better known here in Germany then the article stated. She really gained public attention here cause she made a cover on YouTube singing Adele which was shared by Ashton Kutsher on Facebook. After participating in the German version of “American Idol”, named DSDS, in 2011, Nicole became a famous YouTuber, first doing covers and collaborating with Frans (Sweden 2016) and Lena (Germany 2010 and 2011). Her new album with own songs was released this year.
Please God, let Tom Beck go to the contest one year
U Nicole Cross is quite big she almost has 1 million subs. on Youtube(she also has a song with Frans, which was released this summer.) I don’t know the other two though
