She’s burning up and she can’t cooling down. And over the weekend Eleni Foureira took her fire to the stage of Spain’s Tu Cara Me Suena on the first episode of the season. But rather than singing Eleni sat on the judging panel as Mimi  — the first contender evicted from last year’s Operación Triunfo — imitated Eleni’s performance of “Fuego”.

Yes, it was a meeting of divas that kickstarted the seventh season of Spain’s version of Your Face Sounds Familiar. In addition to Eleni and Mimi, Eurovision 2009 alum Soraya Arnelas performed. She is, in fact, a contestant on this year’s show and proved she has a major shot to snatch the crown. She won the first show with her rendition of Katy Perry’s “Swish swish”.

You can watch Mimi’s performance of “Fuego” here

Tu Cara Me Suena: Episode 1

Despite being the first eliminated act from last year’s Operación Triunfo, Mimi has managed to become one of the most successful artists from the class of 2017. She’s now formed a Pussycat Dolls-like group named Lola Indigo and their tune “Ya no quiero na” became a summer hit in Spain and some countries in Latin America.

Now she’s trying to keep her momentum going with her participation in Your Face Sounds Familiar. From the moment she was announced as a contestant, fans have been asking Mimi to sing “Fuego” and guess what? It was the first performance of the season!

As for Eleni, the Eurovision 2018 runner-up did more than just sit at the jury table while Mimi performed. She also helped her learn the choreography. Mimi, a former professional dancer, had little trouble nailing the moves and hair whips. But to be perfectly honest, it was more Mimi singing “Fuego” as herself than it was Mimi imitating Eleni.

Despite that, Eleni praised Mimi: “Trust me, what she did is very difficult”. Call it a case of the Saara Aalto curse — Mimi also finished second on the night.

Eurovision will be present again in next week’s TCMS gala, when Brays Efe (the actor behind Netflix’s Paquita Salas) imitates Netta.

RSI Have their three qualifiers for Switzerland

The Swiss broadcaster RSI held a mini pre-selection today, these three songs are still in the running:
Julie Meletta – “Mama (I Walk Alone)” (finished in 1st place)
Sebalter – “Carry The Light” (finished in 2nd place)
Scilla Hess – “Playground” (finished in 3rd place)

As far as i know, these results have nothing to do with the actual outcome in the pre-selection. As far as I’m concerned, we get to hear the songs from the other Swiss broadcasters tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

Sebalter was a given. The others I haven’t heard.

I love Tu cara mi suena, it is my favourite show in Spanish TV. Great impersonification by Mimi Doblas. My TCMS act was probably Heidi by Silvia Abril.

You may say whatever you want about Spain, but no other country enjoys Eurovision more than them. NONE.

That’s true. Eurovision in Spain was dead from the mid 80s until the new millennium and almost disappeared somewhere around the 90s but in the last years it has regained an interest unseen since the 60s and 70s. You may like it or not but very few are totally unaffected by it.

And now Eleni is like a household name for many here!

Really hoping the upcoming Netta impression isn’t just a broad tic-fest. It probably will be, but a guy can hope.

Didn’t two versions of this show have Salvador impressions? I remember Cezar doing an excellent one. And I think Alexander Rybak was on it at some point as Conchita and Dima Bilan (the Dima was hilarious).

Yeah, Miquel Fernández played Sobral last season in the Spanish version. As for the Netta performance next week, I saw Brays’ first performance in Tu Cara as Paloma San Basilio (Spain’s 1985 ESC singer) last season and my expectations are very low.
