It’s October and we are moving swiftly into national final season, and with it comes the annual tradition of rumoured artists for Melodifestivalen. The first name for 2019 has emerged from Stockholm: former FO&O member Oscar Enestad is tipped to be on the Mello roster, with a song dedicated to his 50-year-old girlfriend.

Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet — which has a good track record for accurate Melfest rumours — reports that Oscar will compete with a song about the love he feels for his girlfriend Cecilia Dahlbom. The song will also address the issues the couple face with their substantial age difference: Oscar is 21, Celia is 50.

Aftonbladet‘s source says that the song will deal with Oscar’s struggle to make his parents accept his middle-aged girlfriend. The song is said to include the English lyric, “I love it, my parents don’t like it”.

And could Oscar’s entry be a contender for Tel Aviv? The paper’s source says “It’s a very strong song.”

This will be the second Melodifestivalen appearance for Oscar. He first competed in 2017 as part of the boyband FO&O (previously known as The Fooo Conspiracy). Their song “Gotta Thing About You” made it to the grand final, via the andra chansen round, where it placed 11th overall.

Oscar won’t be the first ex-FO&O to compete as a solo artist at Melodifestivalen. Earlier this year Felix Sandman competed with “Every Single Day”. The song placed second at Mello and reached No.1 in the Swedish singles chart.

Like Oscar, Felix also competed with a love song inspired by a real-life partner. Oscar may be hoping that what worked for Felix will also work for him this coming February.

With Benjamin Ingrosso’s win, Melodifestivalen now has four consecutive male winners. Some fans have criticised the show and said it should do more to attract quality entries from female performers.

Last month, SVT revealed that 2295 entries were received for Melodifestivalen 2019. The show’s production team now has the job of deciding the 28 competing acts for the show. So far, only one act is known. Electronic duo The Lovers of Valdaro won the P4 Nästa wildcard, which will ensure them a place in the Melfest 2019 semi-finals.

The dates and locations of Melodifestivalen 2019 have been confirmed, but SVT is yet to reveal who the host or hosts for Melodifestivalen 2019 will be. SVT has also drafted in the assistance of Melodifestivalen and Eurovision writer and producer Edward af Sillén after the 2017 show suffered poor ratings.

What do you think? How do you think Oscar Enestad will do in Melodifestivalen 2019? Who else would you like to see competing? Sound off below!

Unrelated but big: Bulgaria’s project coordinator just left and there are rumors that they might withdraw last minute from next year’s contest. I hope that’s not the case!

Well, hopefully not! And why didn’t Moldova or Russia still confirm their participation as well? As far as I know, Russia never really confirms their participation, they are always on the official list lateron, but what’s the matter with Moldova or San Marino?!

I think the reason why the last 4 winners have been male, is that their songs and performances have been stronger and more memrable . I have been happy with 3 of these winners. Except for Frans. Which was the year I wanted Molly Sandén to win. But hopefully there will be strong female singers with strong songs and performances. In 2019. I just hope that the winner will be a strong one. And about the age thing. Yes I know it’s weird. And she’s old enough to be his mother. But hey!! He’s of age . And love is… Read more »

Another one of those? I never thought I’d prefer Sweden to go back to their middle-aged Schlager aunts. One would think his weird relationship would give great song writing material though. But the lyric “I love it, my parents don’t like” does not exactly fill me with hope.

It feels like Loreen is the only one there who can give us some quality lyrics now…
I wouldn’t mind Nano with another great song like Hold On or Jon Henrik & Aninia to serve some Swedish vibes finally

Why is his relationship weird? ESC world is suppposed to be tolerant and open minded. I’m not a fan of Mello but Felix song was masterpiece.

The case of Sweden seems to follow that one of Greece’s 00 success. People will get bored of Sweden if time tells them to.

Yeah, their formula got tiring – people want Talent, Acclaim, Beauty and Success now and Benjamin had none of these

It’s funny but I always thought Oscar looked weirdly older than he probably was. His hair makes him look like he’s some former 80s star that has never evolved his look and is still hanging on to that era and time when he was cool. He looked out of place with the other 2 FOO members at melfest I thought.
