Wigs galore! Nina Kraljic returns with new song “Najljepši Dan”

She took Croatia back to the final after a six-year absence. And now Nina Kraljić is reminding us of her quirks, originality and power with the brand new single “Najljepši Dan” (The most beautiful day).

The Croatian songstress and Eurovision 2016 participant reminds us to enjoy and revel in our own company and encourages us to forget about past tribulations. Moving on from her previous song “Lay You Down”, Nina has used the song to build new collaborations and partnerships. To call them fruitful is an understatement.

Producer Srđan Sekulović, lyricist Aljoša Šerić and director Mare Milin all came together to work alongside Nina in her latest opus. Moreover, she recently signed to Croatian record label “Dallas Records”, who have produced music for other regional superstars including Severina and Doris Dragović.

Speaking to Croatian website “Večernji List”, Nina said: “When I received the lyrics of the song from Aljoša Šerić, they were a near perfect representation of my current emotions. Feeling an increasing desire to grow as a person and leave all negative emotions in the past, the arrival of the song could not have come at a better time. Singing a song preaching such lyrics as ‘There is nothing that I cannot do’ and ‘The most beautiful day is still waiting for me’, had an almost therapeutic effect upon myself. The more I repeated these words, the more they sunk in and became my reality.”

The music video reflects this new-found philosophy and Nina’s personal development. Mare Milin, the director of the video, said that in order to portray this they chose to focus upon the life of a tree. It is a symbol of all that pertains to freedom and in following its journey from a lowly seed to a force of nature, one can see that in spite of past events, it continues to grow no matter what.

The colours of the music video also coincide with the message. Throughout the song, Nina sports numerous wigs spanning the entire colour spectrum. She starts off with a plain black wig but as the song develops, so do the colours. The whole process is meant to represent the movement, growth and development of a person away from the pain of the past towards the felicity of the future.

With regard to the music itself, it contains elements of what made Nina such a unique artist and performer not just within Eurovision but within the Balkan music industry. The song contains subtle and calming verses which slowly but surely build towards a strong, imposing and memorable chorus. Nina’s iconic vocals aren’t to be missed. She builds a haunting yet calming atmosphere with her ethereal voice and those echoing chimes, which give the song another dimension.
