Melfest rumour season continues. The next name to emerge amid the buzz is Marika Carlsson. The popular comedian and television personality is tipped as the one of the hosts for Melodifestivalen 2019.

Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reports that Marika has been locked in as a host for the show, as have her as yet unnamed co-hosts.

Aftonbladet’s source says Marika was selected because “She fits perfectly into the group that SVT wants to lead Mello next year.”

The source also claims that Melodifestivalen 2019 will have “three or four” hosts in total. It’s a change from 2018 host David Lindgren who presented all six shows by himself, or indeed the star-studded seven-person hosting line-up for Melfest 2016.

Marika Carlsson is a well-established Swedish comedian and won Best Female Standup Comedian at the 2006 Swedish Comedy Awards.

As well as performing standup, she is a personality on Swedish television. She is particularly known as a regular panelist on the political comedy show Parlamentet.

Her most Melfest moment so far came in 2016, when she co-hosted the QX Gaygalan, an annual gala extravaganza celebrating Sweden’s LGBT community.

Aftonbladet also confirms that Christer Björkman will once again be the competition producer, while long-standing floor manager Henric von Zweigbergk will take on a new role as the content producer.

Earlier in the year it was confirmed that veteran Melodifestivalen and Eurovision writer and director Edward af Sillén will be on board as a creative consultant. He has been brought on after the Melodifestivalen 2018 shows were criticised and suffered low ratings.

Rumours around competing artists for Melodifestivalen 2019 have already started. Most recently Wiktoria, Nano and Arvingarna emerged as likely making a Mello comeback. Oscar Enestad has also been rumoured, while P4 Nästa wildcard winners The Lovers of Valdaro will definitely be there.

Aftonbladet’s source claims that the hosting team of Melodifestivalen 2019 is likely to be announced very soon.

What do you think? Who should join Marika as a host of Melodifestivalen 2019? Tell us your favourites below!

I have a feeling that the following may join Marika;

•Kristian Luuk (Host- Melodifestivalen 2007 and 2008)
•Petra Marklund (Singer and host of Allsång På Skansen 2014 and 2015)

•Peter Jöback (Singer)
•Ola Salo (Lead singer – The Ark. The band that represented Sweden at Eurovision 2007.)

•Björn Gustafsson (Comedian and sidekick for Kristian Luuk in Melodifestivalen 2008.)

•Magnus Carlsson (singer)
•Andreas Lundstedt (singer and member of Alcazar)

That’s my prediction.

Just find two hosts with good chemistry. Three or four is totally unnecessary. Plus, when did that ever work or truly enhance the experience of an event. The quartet of Portugal 2018 was fine but by no means memorable.

A great choice! I appreciate her more cynical raw humour. Together with Af Sllen’s sharp writing they could do wonders!
One of the other hosts will probably be a singer, while another one will be a random choice, like Dolph Lundgren and Helena Bergström!

Nah guys, he’s trolling… I think I know this guy from Prinzblog. He’s got a very questionable sense of humor… (At least if he’s the Meckie I think he is.)

Haha, yes it’s our German Meckie, who is trolling ^^ But darling, IF you wanna be correct, then say: LGBTQIA+ = Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Queer, Intersexual, Asexual and all other sexualities (+ or *). @Paul: The star means all others like the plus.

Robyn, star-studded seven-person hosting line-up was in 2016 edition, not 2017 ?
