Over the past six months, all those fans following Lena on Instagram have been getting hyped by her steady flow of hints about new music. There have been release dates — 16th November was shared at least three times — as well and countless snaps of her visiting music studios and even audio snippets in Instagram Stories. But despite all of that Lena has given her fans a warning: “Don’t call it a comeback.”
Back in June of last year, during her participation on the German TV show Sing meinen Song, the Eurovision Song Contest winner released the deeply personal song “If I Wasn’t Your Daughter”.
Then, a few months later, she unexpectedly announced that she needed to take a break from showbiz. Her words shocked her fans, who can’t get enough of the “Satellite” hitmaker.
Writing on Instagram she said: “I have been ‘on’ for so many years and I realised that I can’t concentrate on my music anymore. I want to make music I can identify with. I want to be honest with you and don’t want to be fake.”
And ever since then it’s been uncertain whether her new album — the much anticipated Gemini — would ever get released.
But then, after resting for half a year, she surprisingly announced some news in May: Lena was back in the game!
“Over the last couple of months I wrote, I sang, I danced, I cried and I laughed….It feels good to be back. Many things arose and many things got finished….All I can say at this moment is: it will be sooooo nice (well, I think so).”
Lena then uploaded three photos to her Instagram feed: they all have a white background with light details and a black date in the foreground: “16.11.18”. On this day, she won’t be releasing an album, but a single including a music video.
The German singer also stated in her Instagram story 3 months ago that her album is still in the making, and is now around 65% finished. From that one can assume that the album will follow quickly on from her single this November.
You can already hear some parts of her new music in her stories as well: one extract is very melancholic while another sounds more uptempo and has a major party vibe.
However, along with the date Lena wrote that fans should not call it a comeback. That’s probably down to the fact she’d already been releasing music publicly this summer. Just in June, she released her summery track “Sólo Contigo” together with singers Topic and Juan Magán. Unfortunately its Despacito-reggae vibes didn’t go down so well and the song failed to make an impact in Germany.
Have you been following Lena closely on Instagram? Are you hopeful her new single will be as successful as “Satellite” or “Wild & Free”? Let us know what you’re thinking in the comments below!
Traffic Lights was amazing! Also, If i Weren’t your Daughter was a wonderful ballad. I hope she won’t disappoint because the expectations are high.
Gemini reminds me of a certain British Eurovision act that didn’t have TOO much success in the contest and that wasn’t TOO much in tune…
My favorite single by Lena is Traffic Lights – and Satellite ofc, but out of her non-Eurovision songs, it’s Traffic Lights. Her performances at “Sing meinen Song” (sing my song) were great <3 PS: Yay, the second post from our new German author 😀 So great! (And I know from your Instagram that you have a boyfriend, Julian, so don't worry please, I am simply friendly hehe…)
Ah! “Traffic Lights” won our Track of the Year that year! Great song
Haha you better know that!
Traffic lights really is an amazing song!
