In 2015, they battled it out in the super final of Supernova. Now Latvian stars Aminata Savadogo and Markus Riva have teamed up on a sensual new dance song, “Last Dance”. And it has fans wondering if the duo has plans for Supernova 2019.
In 2015, Aminata won Supernova with her dramatic ballad “Love Injected”, while Markus settled for second place with “Take Me Down”. Since then, the two have stayed active in the national final circuit — Aminata as a songwriter and Markus as a singer. And now the two have joined forces on the song “Last Dance”, penned by Markus.
The song originally appeared on Markus’ new album I Can, performed solo by Markus. Aminata later added her vocals for a new version. As Markus explains, “now the song has gained its true sound thanks to Aminata’s participation.”
The song is a tale of two lovers reaching the end of a relationship. They’ve been fighting and they’ve both realised that things aren’t going to last. But before they split for good, they’re discussing having one last dance. (It’s a metaphor, y’all.)
The melody of the song has a traditional disco feeling, but it comes with the contemporary electronic production that’s become a trademark of both Aninata and Markus. The song is produced by Kaspars Ansons, who also co-produced “Love Injected” and is a frequent collaborator with Markus.
But the release has got fans wondering if the Latvian power duo will enter the song in Supernova 2019. While the video is too long at 3:33, it could easily be cut down. Or perhaps “Last Dance” is a trial run, with another collaboration planned for Supernova 2019.
Markus Riva x Animata – “Last Dance”
“Last Dance” lyrics – Markus Riva x Animata
I couldn’t get more out of you
And every time we speak so tense
I wanna get silent
Oh
And that’s the thing you like to use
When we fight we get so loud
So loud like lions
Yeah
But I could close my eyes
And I could see our perfect past
Like illusion
But here we are
One step closer
To the past
Would you mind
To hold me tight
And stay here one last night?
Oh oh
Before we find
The next one who will stay here one last night
And dance
My last dance
My last dance
My last dance
My last dance
My last dance
My last dance
I feel that you’re the one who needs
Some time to breathe again
Like when we met
Oh oh, oh oh
And now I count the reasons why
You act so cool
Calling me delusional
Oh oh
But I could close my eyes
And I could see our perfect past
Like illusion
But here we are
One step closer
To the past
Would you mind
To hold me tight
And stay here one last night?
Oh oh
Before we find
The next one who will stay here one last night
And dance
My last dance
My last dance
My last dance
Oh oh
My last dance
My last dance
My last dance
My last dance
I just wanna, I just wanna dance tonight
I just wanna dance tonight
I just wanna, I just wanna dance tonight
I just wanna dance tonight
I just wanna, I just wanna dance tonight
I just wanna dance tonight
I just wanna, I just wanna dance tonight
I just wanna dance tonight
Would you mind
To hold me tight
And stay here one last night?
Oh oh
Before we find
The next one who will stay here one last night
And dance
My last dance
My last dance
My last dance
Oh oh
My last dance
My last dance
My last dance
My last dance
What do you think? Should Markus and Aminata enter Supernova 2019? Should they enter with a different song? Share your thoughts below!
The honest truth is that Markus Riva cant represent Latvia if he cant sing live. He have had a lot of chances to prove he can.
Markus stop participating in Supernova challenge
I will add this to my playlist. Good job Markus, you are great singer and song writer.
I hope Aminata has enough good judgement to not aid him on his never-ending Eurovision quest. She has made a name for herself giving Latvia its two last qualifications. If she wants to send a duet to Supernova, she has a good partner in Justs.
This is not very good I reckon! I liked Justs’ song better and I didn’t like that one tbh
If this was performed at Eurovision – I suspect it would look like San Marino 2017
Pass.
Aminata needs to come back to eurovision. She’s the only chance latvia has to win!
Have you heard her songs lately? I hope she keeps her feat intact.
Except Aminata didn’t win, Marija Naumova did.
And was a great host.
I’m sorry, but I want neither Markus Riva nor this bland song for Eurovision. What really annoys me is Markus nasal voice especially in this song, I can’t warm up with this.
Not a huge fan of the song, I mean if I’m honest it’s quite bland and generic. But I love them both, but it’s a shame Aminata is not in indie-electro pop anymore but more in commercial pop.
I believe she will do it again if she found her flow back, now we willhave to enjoy the pop Aminata.
I want this duo and song in Eurovision – it is so damn good ? (do you agree with me?) a ESC queen & a super good singer together on the big stage – that slaaaaaays !
Where is the super good singer?
