The Eurovision 2019 season has been atypically quiet, with no acts revealed so far. But all that could be about to change, as Cyprus broadcaster CYBC has started to drop hints about their act. Let’s try to decipher their first clue.

Broadcaster CYBC has dropped a clue on their Facebook page. The clue involves Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull‘s 2011 global hit “On the Floor”. CYBC asks, “What does this amazing billboard hit by J.Lo gotta do with the 2019 ESC Cyprus entry?”

So ready for the first quiz? What does this amazing billboard hit by J.Lo gotta do with the 2019 ESC Cyprus entry?

Posted by CYBC: Eurovision Cyprus on Thursday, November 29, 2018

They’re suggesting there’s a connection with Cyprus’ Eurovision act, but what is it? Has CYBC signed up Jennifer Lopez to represent the sunny Mediterranean island in Tel Aviv? Will Pitbull also show up with a guest rap? Are we going to party like it’s 2011?

This wouldn’t be the first time J.Lo has been rumoured in relation to a Eurovision event. Way back in 2009, the pop icon was on Azerbaijan’s wishlist to appear at the Eurovision Dance Contest. Sadly the contest was cancelled due to lack of interest.

But we should also keep in mind that another act has been strongly rumoured in relation to Cyprus’s entry for Eurovision 2019.

The Georgian-Greek singer Tamta Goduadze has been rumoured to be under consideration by CYBC. If Cyprus does select Tamta, they would be taking a similar path as 2018, when they selected Albanian-Greek popstress Eleni Fouriera.

Tamta previously competed in the 2007 Greek national final and has been under consideration to represent Greece in previous years. But perhaps — like Eleni Fouriera — where the Greece broadcaster wasn’t interested, Cyprus may grab the moment. But what’s the connection between Tamta and an old J.Lo video?

If the video doesn’t relate to J.Lo or Pitbull, what other clues can we glean from it? Could it offer hints about the creative team behind the song? Let’s take a look at the production credits for “On the Floor”.

The song was helmed by RedOne — the superstar producer best known for his early work with Lady Gaga on iconic songs such as “Paparazzi” and “Bad Romance”. Pitbull also contributes to the songwriting. The rest of the team is made up of the Swedish-based songwriters Kinnda Ingrosso (the cousin-in-law of Benjamin!), AJ Junior, Teddy Sky and Bilal “The Chef”.

RedOne was behind Russia’s entry for Eurovision 2011, “Get You” by Alex Sparrow. The song placed 16th in the grand final, one of the worst results for the Eurovision power player. But could RedOne be looking to do better for Cyprus?

Our eyes are also drawn to one name in particular — Teddy Sky, who did off-stage backing vocals for Eleni Fouriera in Lisbon. He’s also in the pop trio VAX with “Fuego” composer Alex Papaconstantinou, and they have collaborated with Poland’s Margaret. Is it time for Teddy Sky to step out of the wings and go centre stage?

And does this mean that Alex P is involved again? “Fuego” was a huge hit and almost won Eurovision 2018. Perhaps CYBC is sticking with what worked for them in Lisbon.

Oh, Cyprus! One music video with so many possibilities! We feel like the pieces of the puzzle are slowly coming together, but we can’t quite figure out how it all fits.

So what do you think? Will J.Lo represent Cyprus at Eurovision 2019? Is RedOne going to take some bad romance to Tel Aviv? Tell us your theories in the comments section below!

would It not be possible for a Turkish Cypriot representative this year, like don’t get me wrong Eleni did brilliant last year getting 2nd place, but imagine a Turkish Cypriot given the opportunity to represent the island, and imagine the positive impact that would leave if they did well, we have some amazing singers, so hopefully that’s an option

ALex P and Tamta have cooperated again in the past whith a song that was supposed to go to eurovision for Greece on 2015, but something happened with the deadlines. The song was amazing and you can listen both to the video clip and ”live” version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjLT1nde_UM

How about a Turkish Cypriot represents Cyprus? I mean, as far as I know this never happened. It could be a nice gesture

There is actually a Turkish singer called Buray, who is from North Cyprus. He did even take part in the Cypriot national selection back in 2004 I think, however not as a solo artist, but with a group. Unfortunately, the possibility that Cyprus sends a Turkish singer is very low.

for the record, in 2007 Tamta participated to the Greek national finals and she ended second. sarbel, who finally won the national finals, represented Greece with a song of Alex P. (Yassou Maria) and he ended 7th. So don’t write things that there are not true. Of course Greece wants Tamta to represent the country to ESC.

Greeks suddenly want non-ethnic Greeks to represent them? Interesting! Eleni Foureira truly ended racism there.

Its the broadcaster, not the greeks who didnt want Eleni and Tamta. Before you spread fake news, visit any video of eleni or tamta where most of the comments are supporting them and they say they should go to eurovision.

Then explain all the social media comments about Greeks not wanting Albanian Eleni Foureira to represent them? Y’all started claiming her only after her success with Cyprus, while your ethnic song tanked in the semis.

Actually, she is one of the most succesfull greek singers, with her songs having millions of views BEFORE she went to eurovision. Trying to present a whole nation as racists is so nasty. There will always be bad people regardless of the country, But, where are you from darling? Cause if you are russian, as your name implies, i can also make great assumptions for your country 😉

if you have any proofs about racism concerning the administration of ERT you should give those to us, because in Greece making rasist comments and descriminations is a felony. Also if you make false and unprooved accusations, this is also a crime, i’m afraid. Its different if ERT doesn’t want Eleni cause they think that she is a mediocre singer with catchy songs, than they disqualify her cause she doesn’t have a Greek origin

Tamta was on 3 rd place that year. Her song was my favorite in greek national final, but staging and not good singing live was not so good.

no the song was “with love”, and it wasn’t good. After that year Tamta doesn’t express her willness to represent Greece in ESC again.

Cyprus are on verge of becoming a modern ESC powerhouse if they snap up at least another Top 10 finish but it’ll be very difficult to follow up “Fuego” and that electrifying performance from Eleni where legit everyone slept on her before rehearsals started in Lisbon. I highly doubt J.Lo would ever partake in Eurovision but I do like her, especially On The 6 era and that iconic bop “Waiting for Tonight” which is one of the all time greatest party tunes.

I think it is a bit early to declare them a powerhouse – they’ve had one top three placing.

Cyprus follow step from Azerbaijan and Bulgaria. Cyprus want so hard to won the contest in 2009,2010,2011 and they made it in 2011. Bulgaria want win in 2016,2017,2018 realy close to won in 2017. Cyprus want so hard to won in 2018 and we saw in 2019. They are close to won in 2018. But I think if they send similar type of song and female singer this year like last year they will be out of TOP 5. This year they have luck , because no one countries in contenst don t send that type of song and good… Read more »

Maybe it’s the Lambada song, the original of Jey-Lo’s. They go from Latin sounds to Brazilian… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyLdoQGBchQ 🙂

Live It Up (another song with J-Lo and Pitbull) has Alex P as co-writer. So probably here is the answer : a return of Alex P as the composer (after 2012 and 2018 for Cyprus).

Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez would NEVER be involved in Eurovision. In fact, I don’t think Cyprus would appreciate those two to wrote an entry for Cyprus. They don’t even have roots from Cyprus. 😮 Don’t worry, this is NOTHING against Mr. Worldwide and J-Lo.

Marc anthony has a production company and he is great with collaboration with other artists. Its all about money and p.r. and europe is a great market for him, with the latin wave, and I totaly support cyprus to pull out the big guns and make this happen. This is the time to win at last!
