A Dal might have a new look – but that’s not stopping some familiar faces from appearing in the 2019 edition. This morning, Hungarian broadcaster MTVA revealed the 30 acts who’ll be taking part in the national selection.
There’s plenty of recognisable names, but two names in particular stand out. Andras Kállay-Saunders returns as part of his new band, The Middletonz. Can he make a successful return to Eurovision after stumbling in the national final on recent occasions?
Also joining the list is Joci Papai. Joci became the first Romani singer to represent Hungary in 2017, where he finished a very strong 8th with “Origo”. He returns with “Az én apám”.
Other returning acts from previous editions of A Dal include Leander Kills, who appear for a third straight year. They made the final in both 2017 and 2018. Can they reach Tel Aviv with “Hazavágyó”?
Also back are 2018 runners-up, yesyes. After just losing out to AWS, they look to go one better with “Incomplete”.

Actually, the first participant band’s name is “Acoustic Planet”
Leander’s song is great…
Ja, jippi! Vad glad jag blev nu!
He had the best song in ESC and delivered so strong emotions and the danser <3 Wow how they conected. He has something that only Loreen and a few others manage me to feel!
Hurray for Juicy Popeye
Great selection of acts.
Petruska and Yesyes are two that stand out based on the clips.
Ooh the playlist faceplant!
Out of 9 songs, so far Walston & yesyes, Deniz and Nomad have risen to top for me. Good regular diversity!
And not Varga Bence but Vavra Bence. Full of mistakes!
What is TBC? Its known from the beginning that Posztolj is the song of USNK. What a crazy article.
And it’s written by ByeAlex
Last year’s A Dal was amazing with so many quality acts, hope for something similar this year. On paper it looks promising!
I found some of the songs in Youtube and there are 30 seconds snippets of all of them in A Dal’s site. I liked yesyes (which was already one of my favorites last year) Acoustic Planet and The Middletonz. I’m curious to listen to Joci’s complete song. It will be tough to top Origo, but I wouldn’t mind if he achieves to do that.
Lots of great entries here. I’m still sad Meggyfa didn’t pan out last time (that and Esamiba were my two saddest NF losses), but I can see lots of great potential for this year. Running and Origo are two of my favorite Hungarian entries, so I’m glad to see them back.
A Dal’s final last year was awesome. Tamás, yesyes, AWS, Gegerly, Leander Kills… I would be totally fine with any of these going to Lisbon.
Mine too, I still listen (!) to Meggyfa…
besides, I also hope for an epic level for this year…
Hungary dare to be original like the last year. Cheap pop songs are sadly the majority of the acts who competes at Eurovision. I hope Leander Kills at their 3rd attempt will finally win!
I see that the hungarian broadcasting company is trying to give chances to the artists that have participated before but have never won (Leander Kills, yesyes, Bence Vavra, Oliver Berkes etc.). And i like that
Joci, the true winner of 2017 is coming for revenge
yesyes! Happy to see them back!
Joci Papai got his chance, it’s time for others to represent Hungary. I’m rooting for YesYes, they were robbed this year. It seems the hungarians prefered that exorcism act, instead of the beautiful YesYes song (could have been easily in top 10 of the grand finale)…
Look what happened to Poland with “Light me up”
Hungary going all out as usual with a star-studded line-up! A Dal is pretty much the only multi-week national selection outside the Nordics + Baltics that has lasted a while and will probably run for more years, AWS are going to be quite a difficult act to follow in my eyes for how electrifying and daring they were and nice to see more Rock/Metal bands in the mix too! I’d think Hungarian viewers would opt something different as they do each year(from Indie-pop to Drum n Bass to Acoustic to Power Pop to Gypsy Folk to Metalcore)
Yesssss, Joci!!!
Excited to see Joci, Kallay, and yesyes duking it out.
Kállay Saunders András: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V8kcVWCmdM
YesYes, Joci Papai and Kallay Saunders all back! This might be great!
Glad to see I am joining xD
But in all seriousness, this is a very exciting list.
Joci or DENIZ for me
We must send yesyes to ESC with this awesome song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDOlPSjl9Zw
This is really good!
Olah Gergo should have won back in 2016 so looking forward to seeing what he’s gonna bring this time…..and of course Joci Papai!
What about the songs?:)
You can find some of them on YouTube.
Also, I love how there are only 10 songs in English! Their language is so weird and contorted and different from anything else, I love it!
Every year I notice how male-dominated the Hungarian music industry is… but they always serve quality so I won’t complain!
I cannot even express how excited I am to have Joci back. Origo and everything he’s released since = magic. I’M DYING!!!
I wanna see Oláh Gerg? at ESC <3
Joci is amazing he was my 2nd after Finland that year. I am so glad he is coming back!!
His song this year not that good.
