One year after he underwent a successful heart transplant, Salvador Sobral has shared a moving video in which he thanks his donor, his family and all of his fans for their role in his “rebirth”.

Sitting at the piano, the “Amar pelos dois” singer stares straight into the camera and speaks from the heart.

“Hello! Today is the 8th of December and it’s been one year since my rebirth. It was an incredible year. I had a scarily quick recovery. We are now playing everywhere. I can already play football.”

“I wanted to use this video to publicly celebrate this year with you. I’ll only do it this year but I think it’s worth celebrating together because you gave me a lot of support.”

“Many letters, many books, many prayers. People prayed a lot for me. And I wanted to give you my heartfelt thanks. I would like to say thank you to the person who gave me this heart, the person who put it in me, the people who cared for me in pre- and post-op, all the nurses, they are our national heroes, the assistants, the doctors, everyone.”

“Even those of you who have always cherished me, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for that. A year has already passed, and I feel very well and I’m very grateful for all the support I’ve been given. Thank you very much. I am now going to play a song to celebrate this first year of vitality.”

And now with the music! ????

Salvador then performs his take on the Stevie Wonder classic “Overjoyed”, which has more recently been re-interpreted by the American bass guitarist and record producer Victor Wooten.

The lyrics convey Salvador’s appreciation for his life and his gratitude at having survived an incredibly trying ordeal.

“And though you don’t believe that they do, they do come true,” he sings. “For did my dreams come true when I looked at you, and maybe too, if you would believe, you too might be overjoyed…”

We are sending love and gratitude right back to Salvador. Here’s wishing you many more celebrations in the years ahead!

Salvador can easily break Johnny Logan’s winning record, if he wants to. Hint. 😛

LOL I don’t think he would be interested in that, very unfortunately… 🙂 Anyway, unlike Logan he is not a songwriter. 🙂 Now, for his sister, that could be another story… who knows?…
PS: I love it when he sings on the piano, he seems so much more more concentrated and focused.

He is the only singer (1980 and 1987) to have won twice and three times as a composer (1980, 1987 and 1993).

I admire Salvador so much! The way he dealt with that terrible disease is admirable, despite all the limitations he didn’t give up on his dreams and his music. What a great person, this young man is! I wish Salvador all the best, with much health , happiness and of course lots of good music!

LOVE HIM TO DEATH! I know lots of people think he’s a tit but this is the kind of performance I was hoping he’d bring to Lisbon this year … go Salvo, there are few people in this world who can add something special to an already perfect song by Stevie Wonder!

It’s been a wonderful year for Salvador indeed. The quick recovery has been accompanied by new music, a new album on the making and, most importantly, love, recognition, and applause by everyone who has attended his sold-out concerts in Portugal, Spain, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, etc.
May 2019 bring him even more happiness. He surely deserves and his music brings happiness into many lives.

I kinda love the fact he and Tom Burke seem to share a stylist. His Eurovision style looked like The Musketeers Tom Burke and the current looks like Strike’s style.
