Finally — after a seemingly endless period of speculation — LRT have finally revealed the participants who will take part in the longest running Eurovision preselection Eurovizijos Atranka. The competition is going to be both heated and somewhat crowded — a total of 49 acts will take place this year.

The list includes several returning acts and some very well-known names in Lithuania. The stars that shine brightest in the media and among fans are Edgaras Lubys, Jurgis Brūzga, Monika Marija, Tomas Sinickis, and the group Saulės kliošas to name a few.

You may not remember the name Jurgis Didžiulis, but if he slips into a shiny pair of silver shorts you’ll remember the face — and maybe the legs!

He represented Lithuania at Eurovision nine years ago in Oslo with the group InCulto with a song that played on stereotypical fears of immigrants and Eastern Europeans.

This time he’s back as a solo artist and will no doubt want to improve on the group’s 12th place finish in the semis with “Eastern European Funk”.

Too many! Some kind of trash just can’t be recycled, adding them to the final cut is waste of time.

Why 49? What kind of number of entries is that? I find it weird… Why not 50 or 48?

I can see Lithuania and Hungary winning soon. They are on the right track i feel :). Montenegro and Macedonia are on the opposite track i feel with many bad decisions in their national selections every year.

Macedonia and Montenegro don’t have an arena where to host the contest, Lithuania has one of the biggest indoor arenas in Europe, but let’s not forget they’ve never cracked the top 5.

It’s still to be seen smaller countries winning the contest. Can that happen for real? Remember that Estonia & Latvia both won before 2004. Maybe the contest has grown too much & every year only a few countries are in the run for the victory. Hungary winning? Not with Orban there, I’m afraid.

Lithuania would be lucky if they won. Hungary are probably the most likely to win soon, among those who never got it.
Other countries like Montenegro and Macedonia just can’t cope, even the EBU would probably stop them from winning (with the help of the juries).

Nice to see that the group Saul?s kliošas are back! The most original band name prize goes to Antikvariniai Kašpirovskio dantys, meaning “Antique Kashpirovsky teeth”, according to Google Translate

I like that. More music to listen to. And more singers / songwriters getting their place in the spotlight

Two-thirds will be garage productions… I wish they’d just cut down the trash and make a quality 20-song selection ugh
