Spain — as always — changed the process by which they are selecting their song for Eurovision. This year, the OT contestants recorded one-minute demos of their songs. Those demos are available online at RTVE.es and people can vote for their top three on a daily basis until the January 2. Keep in mind these are just demos, not the final versions, so judge them for their quality but also their potential.
Before the poll closes we thought we’d sit down and film our reactions. This was literally the first time we’d heard any of the songs.
After you watch let us know which songs lit your fire!
It seems to me there’s a big problem with sexism in spain, i see more support towards the girls than the boys. Last year it was the same thing…
THANK YOU DEBAN. I also love carlos song ,se te nota. The melody is very catchy. I dont get why spanish people dont vote for it.
Do you understand the lyrics? Childish, repetitive and absolutely heard before.
Maria is the only viable choice if Spain wants to finish Top 10. And they are demo versions so they need to amp up the instrumental and chorus and make it more dynamic and fluid and if they do that it will be the best result for Spain for over 10 years.
Salvador and Luísa Sobral posted a Christmas video singing their new song: https://youtu.be/nrAITklsT7E
About the demos: None of the songs sound good to me. Yes that includes Maria’s.
I’m with william, miki’s second song, miki and natalia and maria are the best songs here…the dinal should conclude only those 3 songs…
VOTE MARIA FOR EUROVISION!!!!
Great review! I love your reactions, and I totally agree with your choices: Miki, Maria or Carlos to Tel Aviv! the rest: burn it. I just feel a bit tired of the same references to Spanish eurofans. We might be (very) intense, yes; but do you prefer boring, quiet fandom instead? No shade to my dear (hot) German fellow eurofans, but they are the biggest eurofandom and still you don’t hear much from them. You need all kind of eurofans to make this thing funny: the calm German, the classy Swedish, the B*tch edited Russian; and the messy, passionate, loud… Read more »
haha i see what you are saying. In polls here Spain and Greece are always on top so thats not so good with the fans that always vote for their own. I have actually only met nice spanish fans. The only fans that were really not nice was the greek. For example when i was in ESC and didnt think the greek song was the best. one said i was stupid and the other greeks agreed then they left haha.
I just want María with “Muérdeme”. Maybe Miki with “La Venda” is also a good choice and I see something in Noelia’s song “Hoy vuelvo a reír otra vez” is like a “Quédate conmigo” 2.0. Anyway, giving the all the power to the public is dangerous because lots of people are going to vote for its favourite singer not the song.
I’d laugh so hard if María is selected and she refuses to go to Israel, the more spanish eurodrama the better! Who would go then? The runner up? Please let something crazy happen the spanish will go nuts again it’ll be fun to watch. 😀 😀
The fun will be VOTE MARIA!!!!!
THE FANS WANT HER, THE FANS WILL WIN
MARIA WILL WIN!!!
Not sure that the snippets idea was a good one considering that a lot of these songs are similar in style. Works better for somewhere like A Dal where there is a wide range of genres represented.
I’m very conflicted tbh… i feel like certain songs were suited for someone else and/or a really good for for an ok performer. We’ll know when they perform to see who’s the standout
I pretty much agree with you guys, except for Miki’s La Venda, which I think it sounds too similar to Alvaro Soler, and not in a good way. Muérdeme will probably be selected, and potentially be the winner. I also like Carlos Right’s songs, they are very organic and easygoing, and people sometimes forget that you don’t need to burn the arena down to get the viewer’s attention. I don’t think he will win though.
This demo idea is also kinda lame :s
I love you, William. But honestly, you didn’t even give a chance to the most of the songs. You can’t decide whether the song is good or bad within 5 seconds. For that reason, I found this idea of RTVE starting the voting based on 1min of snippets just wrong. But you were being really quick to judge I think. Just because the song is slow it doesn’t mean it’s bad. But you looked really tired during the whole video so maybe that’s the reason. Idk. My favourites are Miki with “La venda”, María with “Muérdeme” and Carlos with “Nunca… Read more »
I love William and his reaction videos are priceless, but yeah, sometimes they can be way too fast and they seem a bit distracted to make a full judgement. I know this is more entertaining for the audience, but it would be more useful for the sake of rating/review if they listened to the songs alone in quiet before announcing their opinion in reaction videos. This way a lot of good songs can just go unnoticed simply because they don’t have a catchy tune in the first five seconds.
It’s very unfair to the singers and especially the songwriters that there’s a voting going on when we only can hear 1 minute of the songs. We don’t even know if this is the best minute each has to offer. Imagine if some Oscar nominees were decided based on one third of the movie only! It’s even more unfair when we pair this weird situation with the fact that a big part of the Eurofans community tends to overlook everything that isn’t uptempo and doesn’t sound catchy right at a first try.
A lot of The Academy members (those who choose the Oscar winners) don’t even bother to watch the movies, they just vote for the names that have a lot of buzz or the best team behind their campaigns. So that was a horrible example, imo.
