This winter OGAE — the organisation of Eurovision fan clubs — ran its annual OGAE Video Contest. After voting from various chapters of OGAE around the world the results are in. The winner of the 2018 contest is Mikolas Josef, whose video “Me gusta” has earned the Czech Republic its first OGAE Video Contest win.

This year’s OGAE Video Contest was hosted by OGAE Belgium following Loïc Nottet’s win last year with “Mud Blood”.  And now for a second year in a row, a male Eurovision star has taken home the gold.

Second place was also taken by former Eurovision acts. The silver medal went to a collaboration between two stars of Eurovision 2017. Poland’s Kaisa Moś and Finland’s Norma John placed second for Poland with their video for “Wild Eyes”. They earned 119 points, just one point ahead of third place, UK pop icon Dua Lipa with her iconic “New Rules” video.

Mikolas wasn’t the only Eurovision contestant to feature in the contest, though. The other 23 competing songs featured few familiar names including Croatia’s Severina, Russia’s Philipp Kirkorov, Moldova’s SunStroke Project, Hungarian DJ Zoohacker, Armenia’s Iveta Mukuchyan, Italy’s Fabrizio Moro, and Serbia’s Sara Jo from Moje3.

Two months ago, we ran a poll to find out who your favourites were to win the 2018 OGAE Video Contest.  Now the results are in and it appears that wiwibloggs readers have correctly predicted the winner. Mikolas Josef won the poll with 365 votes, which is 25.85% of the total votes cast.  That’s almost twice as many votes as the runner-up, Kasia Moś and Norma John. They earned 187 votes for their collaboration, “Wild Eyes”.

Wiwibloggs Poll Results

Not only did wiwibloggs readers correctly pick the contest’s winner, but they also predicted that the United Kingdom and Poland would place in the top three.  However, the poll also predicted that Australia, Serbia, and Croatia would round out the top six when, in fact, none of them managed to crack the top ten.

“Me Gusta”, which is Spanish for “I like it” was released following Mikolas’ sixth-place finish at Eurovision 2018 with the song “Lie to Me”.  “Me Gusta” has since garnered quite a bit of attention, charting tenth in Czech digital downloads and placing as the runner-up in the wiwibloggs’ annual Top Tracks countdown.

I really liked Macedonia’s song here and then I realised he actually represented Macedonia in JESC 2008 and placed 5th. I think that Macedonian broadcaster should approach him.

With a song like “Apartment” he would definitely bring Macedonia back to the finals! I support this idea, MRT please choose him as your representative!

…Because BOBI ANDONOV makes music in Australia. I don’t think he’d come back and represent Macedonia, he’d choose Australian NF.

Wow, 4th place for Germany! Didn’t expect this, but I am so happy, ’cause “Kreise” is actually a very good song for me 😀
And congrats to King Miki on the horse <3
