After a few months of financial strife and uncertainty, broadcasters STB and UA:PBC have locked in their upcoming selection show Vidbir 2019. And while they have yet to announce the lineup of entrants, last year’s debutants KAZKA have confirmed that they have submitted an entry for consideration.

KAZKA, an alternative music group made up of vocalist Sasha and multi-instrumentalist Nikita, debuted at Vidbir 2018 with their entry, “Dyva”, which failed to make it out of the semi finals. While formally a duo, the group have recently added a third member Dmytro, who plays wind instruments.

????? @harpersbazaarukraine ?? ???? ? KAZKA ??

A post shared by KAZKA (@kazka.band) on

The trio have yet to announce their entry for Vidbir 2019 – but they do have a strong back catalogue to choose from or draw inspiration from. Their song “Plakala” (Cry) was a huge success last year, earning over 100 million YouTube views and is the only Ukrainian song to make it to the Top 10 Shazam world charts. They released the English version of the song in December last year – which, with some adjustments, may make it eligible for Eurovision.

KAZKA first broke into the music scene in March 2017 with their song, “Svyata” before entering X Factor Ukraine in 2017 coached by Andriy Danylko — the real-life man behind alter-ego Verka Serduchka, who came second in Eurovision 2007. KAZKA made it through to the live shows where they reached a respectable seventh.

Vidbir 2019 will be held in the Palace of Culture in Kyiv, and will commence with two semi-finals on February 9 and February 16, and the final on February 23. Voting will consist of both a public vote and expert panel of judges.

The expert panel of judges will feature Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala and their former X Factor mentor Andriy Danylko (who will no doubt tone down the controversy this year). Yevhen Filatov, who created 2017 Eurovision interval act ONUKA, also features on the judging panel.

Are you excited to see KAZKA back at Vidbir? Which other act would you like to see participate in Vidbir 2019? Let us know in the comments below!

I would love to see them win. But I hope the juries and televoters will be considerate to them.

Saying she cant sing live is a fact, it has nothing to do with if you like their songs or not.

Tayanna have got a lot of haters here in Ukraine, her main audience are 30 years old women. The youth would mostly like to see in the Eurovision such a great singers and bands like: The Hardkiss, Kadnay, KAZKA, Michelle Andrade or Vremya i Steklo, Monatik and others…
Just listen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWlAeUTiyB8

why people or teenagers hate her? she seems very likable girl.
i herd her manager is a real jerk though, he posted homophobic tweets about Melovin after he won Vidbir last year and had fight with Danylko during Vidbir, but it’s not her fault right? i wish her luck anyway:)

First of all, because she is selfish and envious. Her team was horribly behaving in the last year’s selection, you are right, her manager entered into an open conflict with Danylko, and this year they even wanted to put forward an ultimatum to the STB that they would take part in the selection only if Danylko was not in the jury. And her performance with the song “Lelya”? Yes, of course, a beautiful Ukrainian song, but destroyed by the performance, she just turned a melodious Ukrainian song into a cheap prostitute song. As for homophobia in Ukraine, this is a… Read more »

You’re so right… I’m from eastern Ukraine and when I was in school my classmate was thinking about killing me when he had serious suspects that i’m gay and fell in love with him.

Unfortunately she is very unstable live. She kills even the simplest songs. So if they win in Ukraine i can see them NQ.

It won’t be this song because it was recorded in the their debut album that was released in April of last year. On the bright side, a brand new song from Kazka <3

Ukraine is one of the 2 countries, which alwsays qulifies to the Grand Final, they have got great potential to win the whole competition, at list to finish in TOP5
Last year, the Ukrainian representative suffered only through a terrible and unprofessional jury; I believe that among judges there should be professional music critics and leading music journalists, and not unknown singers and those who have taken second place in the national selection …

Thanks to juries , they didn t stay in semifinal in 2012

I think that juries are always very unprofessional in the ESC, Gaitana’s song was terrible!!! But Melovin’s entry was one of the best. If they call themsefes as musical experts why then Estonia didn’t reach the top by them in 2018????
