After weeks of teasing and speculation, the full line-up of Czech Republic’s national final has been made public as well as the eight songs competing in the contest.

Last night, information regarding the eight competing acts in Česká Televize’s (CT) national final were released and we got a first glimpse at the participants. There were a few familiar faces like Jakub Ondra and Pam Rabbit (Pamela Koky). But we had to wait a bit longer for the full songs to be released.

Today, CT held a press conference in Prague, where they formally presented the eight artists and their songs as well as gave information as to how one can get involved. Voting will be conducted using the official Eurovision app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. Everyone will be able to voice their opinion, but only those who reside within the Czech Republic will have their votes counted as a “televote”. Votes cast outside of the Czech Republic will be collated and counted as one “jury” vote. Voting will last until the 21st of January and will consist of a televote and a jury vote.

Information regarding the artists and the competition can be found on the official Eurovision website or by following this link.

Who is in the running?

The eight competing acts as well as their respective entries are as follows:

Andrea Holá Give Me A Hint
Hana Barbara Poslední Slova Tobě
Barbora Mochowa True Colours
Jara Vymer On My Knees
Pam Rabbit Easy To Believe
Tomáš Boček Don’t Know Why
Jakub Ondra Space Sushi
Lake Malawi Friend Of A Friend

Which of the eight entries is your favourite?

What do you think of the potential entries? Are you excited to see who will follow in the footsteps of Mikolas in Tel Aviv? Be sure to cast a vote in our poll and leave a comment down below! You can vote for as many songs as you’d like, but you can only vote one time. Be sure to hit the box next to each act you want to support before pressing submit.

Ok, I’m a little dissapointed by Czech Selection this year. However, the one which stands out for me is “True colours”. Beautiful voice, nice songs, it will look even better live. I’d also like to see “Friend of a friend” as an up-beat song well performed on stage. The rest of the songs….no.

I’m astonished how many are voting for True Colours. It’s a 3 minute dirge with no chance of qualifying. They HAVE to send Lake Malawi. It’s 80’s throwback done right. Just get rid of the talking bits and it’s done.

For me “Fiend of a friend” is the only one that could potentially do something in Tel Aviv ! It’s quite different that what can be heard on the Eurovision stage and I think it could stand out with the help of the juries. The chorus is memorable and enjoyable too. If CZ goes with this song I think they could qualify because there would be no other song like this one. It’s a bit like “If I were sorry” from Frans in 2016 in the sense that it is a different genre. I don’t get the hype around “True… Read more »

These are borderline qualifiers at their best.with good staging Lake Malawi can do ok as its catchy and kind of similar to Years AND Years to some extent but thats a good thing. Barbora is really Lana Del Rey copycat and we should avoid it since we have Original.. Not sure why people even consider this one as favourite. Space Sushi is ok though it is still complete nonsense.

I think overall the songs are respectable, Czech Republic will not be embarrassed to be represented by any of them. I think it will be an uphill battle to qualify but I think it’s far to early to rule anything out just yet. For me, Jara Vymer with “On My Knees” is my preferred choice as I connected more to that song and felt a certain sincerity in the entry. “True Colours” has a lot of potential for elevation in a live performance.
Best of luck from the UK.

This may be unpopular, but I am happy nothing sounds like Lie to me. Yes it was a quality production, but that song was soooo not my cup of tea! Im more comfortable to be represented by some of those indie songs than by LTM. That being said, Poslední slova tob? is hideous, thats not how you articulate in czceh. There are a few songs I am indifferent about, but after a few listens, I cannot surely choose between True Colors, I dont know why, Easy to belive and On my knees, because everyone of them has a “thats good”… Read more »

“True Colors”, “Don’t know why” and “Friend of a friend” are the best. “Space sushi” is ok too. The other 4 are some of the worst songs of any national final so far. This is a huge letdown by Czechia. I had much higher expectations. Doubt they will qualify again.

My top three are currently (in no particular order), Barbora, Jakub, and Lake Malawi. Barbora for the Lana del Ray-esq vibe, Jakub for the moombhaton-dancehall pop feel, and Lake Malawi for the 80s meets 2010s atmosphere.
Good luck to all the contestants

None of these are “made for Eurovision” and that is a GOOD thing. But personally my tastes vastly differ to the current poll result. I actually voted for Jara Vymer, maybe because of the Beatles vibe. Actually it was good to hear the British influences in some of these songs, thanks for those. 🙂 Tomas Bocek was okay, but that song runs out of steam. Barbora has a world class voice, but that song is sooo slow. Apart from the melody of the Chorus, I found it forgettable. Sorry. 🙁 “Space sushi”… okay, it’s cute, I just cringe when I… Read more »

Hi!Nice to hear your opinion. It seems like we have different favorites on this one. You know I can often be a fan of slow songs and ballads, but On My Knees truly put me to sleep. I guess it’s fine, but there is nothing going on. Same goes for Give Me A Hint. True Colors would also need more power in the second half to truly make an impact, but I really enjoyed the melody and her voice. I guess Space Sushi is the only one which could qualify on a WTF factor, but I totally get that this… Read more »

Jakub Ondra ist cute, too bad his song is so nonsensical and insufferable. That really only leaves Lana as the sole contender here – and she is probably going to struggle in her semi final.

I think the Lana Del Rey comparisons are a bit of an exaggeration. Barbora happens to have a similar voice, but the song itself, if anything, sounds like very early-era Lana (Summertime Sadness). Therefore, it’s not really a copy in my opinion, since that ballad style was still pretty generic and didn’t have the distinctive Lana Del Rey flavor to it.

True Colours sounds a lot like Del Rey’s ‘Bel Air”. Just because she doesn’t make similar music anymore, doesn’t make it less of a copy.

It seems the Czech Republic has been looking for some radiofriendly songs. My thoughts about these entries: Lake Malawi – Friend of a Friend. It sounds promising at the start. I appreciate the indie vibe, but in time the beep gets a bit annoying. Jakub Ondra – Space Sushi. Not bad, but I don’t like it, his voice is a bit annoying too. For a song that tries to be uplifting and fun, the instrumental lacks of power and I can’t feel anything… it doesn’t make me move. Overall, it goes nowhere. Is this really the fav? Ahem. What if the Czech Republic are in a weak semi and they make the right choice (I don’t know I haven’t listened to any of the songs) and bring the staging to Tel Aviv. These comments don’t mean anything to me yet but I pray to anyone it’s better than Selectia Nationala or Supernova.

Yeah this selection sucks. And why was it always the same apartment? Jakub is the closest thing to Mikolas Josef yet he’s nothing like Mikolas Josef. Barbara has a good voice but the song goes nowhere. Tomas and Jara are flat out boring. Pam is sassy but the song is incredibly dated. I have to respect that Hana is singing in Czech but that’s all I can say about the song. Andrea is promising at the beginning but the chorus falls on it’s face. And Lake Malawi which is actually steady and well paced ? it’s my favourite here but… Read more »

Well, True Colors is an endearing song with a beautiful vocal! Space Sushi is odd, but somewhat fascinating and I like the vibe it has. Those two are certainly in a plus for me. Friend of a Friend is perhaps passable due to catchieness. Other 5 songs – no comment!

Jesus, I think Space Sushi is quite bad but after hearing these generic songs. At least it’s weirdly different with those lyrics. Besides, wtf was happening to the song “Try” from Pam Rabbit? Why didn’t she compete with that song? That song is a million times better than these tracks.

A Lana Del Rey copycat winning the poll?? Are you people serious? LOL!!

I don’t really trust that online voting, but I would definitely choose Jakub Ondra. That one is really interesting and could do really well in May with proper staging. But I really wonder what’s the message behind that song, I am sure those “Space Sushi”s represent something. Anyway it’s very entertaining. But I don’t know if they’ll end up sending him or the Lana Del Rey fan. Though they have to be very clever about it.

Ondra explained that space sushi is a metaphor for something that sounds good, but is unreachable and unreal. The whole song is about stopping being lazy and postponing everything in life.

Don’t get me wrong, True Colors is obviously a very nice song, but isn’t this the exact type of song same people here would put in their bottom 5 in Romania or Estonia, because they’d find it to be a ”boring ballad”. I usually enjoy these types of songs when done right, but I am really perplexed on the reaction of others. Is it just because you dislike other songs so much or you *actually* find True Colors great?

True colours doesn’t stand out to me, even though I like it as a song. I’m afraid it would do a Norma John. Maybe it would go to the final if they do a memorable staging like ‘I stand’ but I think they would be better of with something weird like space sushi, simply because current viewers seem to like meme-worthy things. I know my university friends would absolutely love it.

Lake Malawi might also do well, mostly with young voters.
