Conan, inspired by the Japanese anime series of the same name. Osiris, inspired by the Egyptian god. Together they form the artistic name of 29-year-old Tiago Miranda, who is as complex and thought provoking as his way of making music. His next challenge: Festival da Canção 2019.

On February 16, Conan Osiris will perform in the first semi-final of Portugal’s national selection for Eurovision 2019. Over the last year the Portuguese singer-songwriter’s name has been a constant presence in major music publications.

His first EP, “Cathedral”, made a splash in the Portuguese music market by defying the traditional and conventional with a unique and experimental way of crafting music. “Silk”, “Música Normal” (Normal Music) and “Adoro Bolos” (I love cake) follow the same trend, with each work adding more layers to Osiris’ genre combination extravaganza.

From more traditional fado influences to the modern kizomba, a touch of gypsy flavor and even some dancehall realness, Conan owns his uniqueness in a way that shapes his overall styling and the message of his songs.

In a recent Vogue magazine photoshoot, Osiris was seen posing while in the midst of raining fish fingers — a puzzling  image that signals the sometimes nonsensical quality of his work and image. Portugal’s publication Blitz qualified some of his work as schizophrenic on the basis of strange lyrical compositions and seemingly “improper” genre combinations.

His latest work, “Adoro Bolos” (I love cake), is an intelligent and satirical piece of art, that straddles reality and humour, a culmination of Osiris’ work that started by learning how to do music alone at home, with a computer.

The mutation of music genres is gaining special relevance in a world where everything seems to be already discovered and used. It’s a breath of fresh air that dares to challenge the status-quo of what we hear on the radio and see on television.

For that, Conan Osiris is a 21st century UFO that takes inspiration from the past with his eyes set in the future, refuting the mainstream and challenging listeners to embrace difference.

What do you think of Conan Osiris work? Are you excited about what he can bring to Festival da Canção? Tell us in the comment section below!

CONAN OSÍRIS – “BOATS” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJPfYhcrZCo VERSE 1 The salt that opens you does not open their skin And the cold that kills there does not kill their mother And the hunger there does not kill their father. And your son’s body does not weigh In their hands I see the shit coming out of their hands And I’ll see you. I see you In boats being born I see you On boats dying I see you In boats passing I see you On ships sinking Why do I still look out to sea? If I already know how it will… Read more »

The public gave 12 points (1st place) to Conan Osíris. That means portuguese people really want him in Tel Aviv,
However, the jury only gave him 7 points (4th place), so we’ll see if he wins Festival da Canção, on march 2nd.

In Tel Aviv they won’t know what hit them. <3 This is another great example of how RTP is hitting gold with the reboot of Festival da Canção.

A three minutes version of “Adoro Bolos” would be the perfect entry. Also, he obviously has a sense of staging and presence, which is uncommon in the Portuguese music scene, except for some very notable exceptions. Unfortunately, I don’t see him winning the FdC, though, with the normally conservative jury and with no real cross-over in the public.
