She rose to fame with her Latin-flavoured banger “Bombo”.

And since she finished runner-up in Melodi Grand Prix 2013, fans have been waiting for Adelén‘s return.

Unfortunately it’s a Bomb-no this year. That’s because Adelén has announced she won’t compete in Melodi Grand Prix 2019, in a sundrenched Instagram post:

Despite teasing that she’s “excited” for 2019 the star says:

“And no, I’m not participating in this year’s Eurovision, as many are asking me haha ❤️ sorry.”

Despite the sad news, her 85k followers were quick to flood the post with likes and comments, in a show of support for the Norwegian singer.

Adelén since Melodi Grand Prix 2013

Adelén has enjoyed great success since she took to the MGP stage back in 2013.

She’s appeared on Skal Vi Dance, Norway’s version of Strictly Come Dancing and won an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Norwegian Act in 2014.

In addition, she also contributed a track for the FIFA World Cup 2014 soundtrack. “Olé” has since racked up 18 million views on YouTube and became her second Top 3 hit in her native Norway.

More recent releases have seen the star take a different direction.

Her latest single “Big Bad Bitter” is a thick slice of pulsating electropop.

Over heavy beats, the star warns her lover, “I don’t wanna act big, bad, bitter.”

Sonically, and visually in the video, Adelén shows off a new darker edge from the sunny Latin girl we knew six years ago.

Adelén may be out, but we will soon know who is in. NRK will unveil the ten competing acts in Melodi Grand Prix 2019 at a press conference on January 25. We’ll also hear the songs for the first time during the press conference.

Last month NRK revealed actor, singer and dancer Heidi Ruud Ellingsen will co-host the show with Kåre Magnus Bergh.

I loved “Bombo” in 2013 and still do, up there with my favorite summer-themed NF songs and although Norway were right sending Margaret Berger who was the only one in Melodi Grand Prix’s strong line-up(their last multi week semifinal format year, ahh I miss those days) able to secure a Top 5 finish but I’d like Adelen to return if she becomes more confident and focused singing live. She seems a sweet polite girl who tweeted me a couple of times years back but seems to have been very quiet since her 2014 World Cup song, I actually just searched… Read more »

Just like the January transfer window, there’s all kinds of rumours flying in at this time of year. Adelén has just clarified once and for all she isn’t competing in Melodi Grand Prix 2019.

I was thinking exactly the same thing, but you beat me to it. A person who isnt competing is a real non event. You and I are not competing either. Are they going to run a story on that as well.If an internationally known artist said they were competing, then pulled out, then fair enough, but this is pretty poor news.

She’s a hot girl singing danceable songs. That’s what her entire career was based around.

She was a complete newbie when she competed in Melodi Grand Prix 2013 and to finish second behind Margaret Berger on her debut is seriously impressive.

As Anthony said, she was a total newbie and just turned 16 when she burst on the Norwegian limelight in MGP 2013 and although her live vocals were average “Bombo” was still a sugar-fun cheerful bop that came 2nd and became a summer hit across the Nordics, you could say before Margaret there was Adelen 🙂

Thanks for making that announcement that no one cared about.
I hope Norway has better acts to choose from.
Like they had in 2013 with Margaret Berger and the awesome song “I Feed You My Love”.

Wise decision. She has to take some singing lessons first.
