She rose to fame with her Latin-flavoured banger “Bombo”.
And since she finished runner-up in Melodi Grand Prix 2013, fans have been waiting for Adelén‘s return.
Unfortunately it’s a Bomb-no this year. That’s because Adelén has announced she won’t compete in Melodi Grand Prix 2019, in a sundrenched Instagram post:
Despite teasing that she’s “excited” for 2019 the star says:
“And no, I’m not participating in this year’s Eurovision, as many are asking me haha ❤️ sorry.”
Despite the sad news, her 85k followers were quick to flood the post with likes and comments, in a show of support for the Norwegian singer.
Adelén since Melodi Grand Prix 2013
Adelén has enjoyed great success since she took to the MGP stage back in 2013.
She’s appeared on Skal Vi Dance, Norway’s version of Strictly Come Dancing and won an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Norwegian Act in 2014.
In addition, she also contributed a track for the FIFA World Cup 2014 soundtrack. “Olé” has since racked up 18 million views on YouTube and became her second Top 3 hit in her native Norway.
More recent releases have seen the star take a different direction.
Her latest single “Big Bad Bitter” is a thick slice of pulsating electropop.
Over heavy beats, the star warns her lover, “I don’t wanna act big, bad, bitter.”
Sonically, and visually in the video, Adelén shows off a new darker edge from the sunny Latin girl we knew six years ago.
Adelén may be out, but we will soon know who is in. NRK will unveil the ten competing acts in Melodi Grand Prix 2019 at a press conference on January 25. We’ll also hear the songs for the first time during the press conference.
Last month NRK revealed actor, singer and dancer Heidi Ruud Ellingsen will co-host the show with Kåre Magnus Bergh.
