The days of the European winter are short, dark and gloomy — the perfect weather to spin the rumour mill. In the past few days, speculation has been rife on social media that Loïc Nottet will be writing the track for Belgium’s next Eurovision entrant.

The Eurovision 2015 entrant denied any involvement in the selection process on Twitter this afternoon, articulating the following in French:

“A false rumour is going around about me! For those who asked, it’s not me who will compose and write the song for the Euro this year!”

The rumour came about with reports that Loïc’s involvement was announced during yesterday’s broadcast of Ces Annees La. The radio programme airs on VivaCité, a Walloon radio station which is part of RTBF, the broadcaster in charge of the 2019 Belgian entry. However, listening back to yesterday’s broadcast, there is no mention of Loïc Nottet in the entire show, nor did they even play any of his songs.

Belgium at Eurovision 2019

The Walloon broadcaster RTBF has not revealed any details about their selection format for the coming year. However, it is likely that they will opt for another internal selection. Back in November,  The Voice Belgique winner Valentine Brognion was named as a potential act. The young star ticks all the boxes of a typical Walloon Eurovision entrant from recent years.

Loïc Nottet at Eurovision

Loïc Nottet represented Belgium at Eurovision 2015 with the song “Rhythm Inside“. His contemporary number finished fourth, Belgium’s best result since Urbad Trad finished as runners-up in 2003. Loïc went on to release his first studio album Selfocracy. Additionally, the song “Mud Blood” from that album won the OGAE Video Contest 2017, cementing his status as a Eurovision fan favourite. Recently, he has released “On Fire“, continuing his musical evolution.

Will Loïc Nottet return to Eurovision himself as a performer? Back in December, during a radio interview with station MNM, Loïc stated that he wasn’t against the idea of competing for Belgium again in the future. “Why not?” he said, adding that any potential return wouldn’t be soon. As such, don’t expect to see Loïc involved in Eurovision 2019 but perhaps a return to the Eurovision stage is on the cards in the future.

Are you disappointed that Loïc Nottet won’t write the Belgian entry for Eurovision 2019? Who do you want to sing for Belgium this year? Let us know in the comments below!

Belgian media and other eurofan sites apparently have confirmed that RTBF has chosen Eliot Vassamillet (another The Voice Belgique alum) to represent Belgium in Tel Aviv.

And his song will be, apparently, composed by Pierre Dumoulin, the man behind Blanche’s “City Lights”.

Belgium needs to send Stan Van Samang to Eurovision 2019. Back in 2017, he wrote and recorded “Little Moon Rises,” a song so beautiful it could fit on REM’s “Automatic for the People.”

He recorded it originally with Sarah Bettens of K’s Choice, but this version he sang with Blanche is my favorite.

Stan Van Samang is from Flanders, therefore he’ll probably won’t participate this year (it’s Wallonia’s turn this year)

Yes I’m disappointed. 🙁 But I would also have preferred that Loïc sang the song himself and did also the staging and the costumes… He would do so great on Eurovision stage. Maybe in the next few years??

Alice on the Roof is likely to represent Belgium. She has a free agenda from end of March on. Coincidence?

I want Loic for Belgium now!, Il Volo for Italy, and I’m sure MIHAI withdrew from Romania just to jump to Moldova.

Moldova wants to stay in the top 10, though. They don’t need a desperate, annoying never-will-be.

His creative juices are flowing, he probably would have come up with something great. I’m still hopeful the Wallonian broadcaster can do a hat trick.

I wanna hear a song from Belgium that is sung in Walloon someday. Probably not gonna happen anytime soon though.

Well in Wallonia, we are speaking french (and in Flanders we are speaking dutch) ^^ Walloon is just an old dialect that almost nobody speaks anymore here in Belgium.

It’s funny how we always have to repeat this. After 190 years of existence, Belgium is still unknown
