The rumour mill is spinning wildly in the Netherlands. Dutch Eurovision commentator Cornald Maas announced yesterday that broadcaster AVROTROS has already chosen its artist and song. This has led to much speculation on social media. Many fans are speculating that Eva Simons is headed to Tel Aviv, due to some buzz that the artist is creating herself. Could there be more to these rumours or is Eva using the timing of the announcement to merely promote her upcoming single?

Eva Simons on Twitter

Eva Simons started the rumour by retweeting a fan asking “Is this our Eurovision entry???” as a response to a music snippet she posted. The snippet is for her new song “Like That”, which will be released on January 25. This has prompted fans to suggest that Eva may be the artist Maas was referring to, and that “Like That” may be the Dutch entry for 2019.

That’s not the only social media post that is fuelling this rumour. Eva also shared a picture of an article of Cornald Maas confirming the Dutch artist and song have been chosen. She captioned that post with the line “I’m really curious”. This has certainly added more intrigue to the rumours.

About Eva Simons

Eva comes from a musical family. Her mother is Ingrid Simons, best known for her collaboration with DJ Paul Elstak on “Luv U More” and the song “Rainbow in the Sky“. Her father Johnny Meijer was a famous accordionist and jazz musician in the Netherlands. Eva started her career as a member of the group Rafflish. The group was formed on Dutch TV show Popstars – The Rivals. The group disbanded in 2006 and Eva commenced her solo career. In 2009 she had her first solo success with the song “Silly Boy“. After that came hits like “Policeman“, “Take Over Control” and “This Is Love” with will.i.am. Eva was also a jury member on Dutch TV Show Idols.

In a recent radio interview, Eva openly spoke about her struggles with record companies and her insecurities after being unable to have her songs released. She was in tears during the interview, where she felt caught between having many good records lying on the shelf but having no company which wanted to release them.

A collaboration with Armin Van Buuren?

Eva has been asked about Eurovision in the past and has said that she was open to the idea, as long as she could choose the track and the DJ. Some fans are hoping that a collaboration with Armin Van Buuren could be in the works, who also seemed enthusiastic about the idea of doing something for Eurovision in the past. Could the stars be aligning for both artists now?

Taking a look at Van Buuren’s tour schedule, he has nothing booked between April 18 and June 22. That means he could be available in May 2019 to set aside a couple of weeks for Eurovision. If you are curious how Armin Van Buuren and Eva Simons could sound together, here is a mashup of Armin’s “Full Focus” and Eva’s “Take Over Control”.

What do you think of these rumours? Are they just rumours or is there something behind them? Do you want to see Eva Simons at Eurovision? Let us know what the Netherlands should do in the comments below!

Honestly? I think he’s really good! Wonderful live vocalist based on the YT clip I’m watching. A very interesting approach for the Netherlands, could potentially be their most low-key song since 2014. I’ve always said that those who do best at Eurovision try to do the exact opposite of the supposed “formula” and I think he’s a good example of that. A good ballad and he’ll qualify for sure.

Either she can’t contain her excitement or she is desperate for attention. I was sold on the orange profile picture and her hair but if this is just for attention, I hope she never goes. I thought Then Netherlands were one of those countries who wait until March to reveal anything, at least since 2016.

Well, the songs are almost always released in March (except Trijntje in 2015). Our artists are revealed very soon tho! Anouk, Common Linnets and Douwe Bob in september, OG3NE in October and Waylon and Trijntje in November I thought.
