Miki Nunez Spain Eurovision 2019

The Eurovision 2019 season received a much need kick-start this week when Spain’s Operación Triunfo Gala Eurovision ended with victory for Miki and “La Venda”. This brought the current tally of confirmed acts and songs to two, the other being Albania’s Jonida Maliqi with “Ktheju tokës”. She earned the right to sing at Eurovision after winning Festivali i Këngës 57 just before Christmas.

Tel Aviv may still be a long way off, but it only takes two to tango. And what a fierce dance it’s been!

We asked y’all to vote for your favourite Eurovision act so far, and a whooping 4,574 votes were cast.

Jonida put in a valiant effort, picking up 1,504 votes (32.88% of all votes cast). But the Balkan songstress was pipped to the post by the Iberian charmer. Miki turned on the heat and scooped up 3,070 votes in the process (67.12% of all votes cast).

Miki “La Venda”

Jonida Maliqi “Ktheju tokës”

Your Eurovision favourites on 26 January (2 acts)

  1. Spain: Miki with “La Venda”. 67.12% (3,070 votes)
  2. Albania: Jonida Maliqi with “Ktheju Tokës” 32.88% (1,504 votes)

Total Votes: 4,574

Thankfully, this isn’t a knockout blow. Jonida survives to fight another day. However, she and Miki will face additional adversaries. France’s search for its next Eurovision act concludes tonight. Afterwards, we’ll relaunch the poll to include the winning song from both.

What do you think of the current standings? Does Spain deserve its number one placing? And perhaps more importantly, can Miki hold onto the much coveted top spot next time? Will France arrive with a bang and snatch poll position? Or could Albania sneak past both and claim the crown? Let us know below.

all the people getting salty about Spain winning this poll but it’s what they deserve, Miki is an amazing performer and his song is a bop that’s loved by people, accept it

Since these poll articles always seem to be a source of hatred, I’ll have a shot at constructive criticism: What I sometimes find a little confusing about these polls is that I don’t know whether we’re supposed to vote on the artist (which is implied by the term “act” – but then again the other artists already chosen are not included) or on the song chosen. So in the end, people vote on different kinds of aspects of the entries (which makes the whole polling even more irrelevant than internet polling already is) which then leads to all those over-sensitive… Read more »

I see that everyone here is free to spit on the others when they don’t agree. Then I will give my useless opinion too. These 2 songs sucks. None of them is good enough to reach at least top 15…
So stop fighting and wait for the best songs to come!
Btw, I voted Miki. At least his song is catchy 😉

For me, they are both first. For now. Because they are both excellent for what they are and represent.

Oh god, I’ve been visiting Wiwibloggs site for years and I never posted a comment before, but I have the feeling that I have to do it now. I don’t get this hate and bad vives on the Spanish fanbase from other readers (and this is demonstrated in so many different posts and comments). We may love drama (I don’t like to generalize in matters like this one), so what? Are we harming anyone? Are we being disrespectful people? Accept people the way they are, for the good things and for the bad ones as well.

Thanks for your comment. Taking in consideration all the comments and previous feedback that I could get, we clearly have a different idea of what being disrespectful is. I would really love that you could get a bit more about how the Spanish Eurovision fans are, so you could see that this is not a matter of patriotism. We did love Alfred and Amaia last year because they knew how to connect with the Spanish audience (and they both are amazing artists nowadays), and somehow quite the same thing is happening this year as well with Miki (even if not… Read more »

Guys, there are ONLY TWO SONGS. You can say Spanish fans are rigging the poll between 20 entries, but BETWEEN TWO? Albanian fandom is so big too. And yes, despite I love albanian entry, La Venda is fairly better (and not all the spanish eurofans supports this entry, he had many hate during OT season)

This is an ongoing pattern. Last year, Alfred y Amaia were the favourites of the polls about 25 songs in.

OT 2017 was a big phenomenon in Spain, Alfred and Amaia had a big fandom too, (she won, he was finalist) Miki not even was finalist. It was more a fandom thing than Spanish voting (Remember for example Edurne was the clearly most beautiful woman in ESC 2015 and she not even won the Eurovision’s next top model here that year) In twitter the fan clubs of both were always posting the wiwibloggs links and cherring up people to vote on the polls. Also, If they win because of the Spaniards, what matters? that doesn’t influence the result, come on,… Read more »

You know when it’s Eurovision again with the Spanish fans rigging the polls. The same last and pretty much every year (which they always flop in the end anyway).

Dislike my comment all you want, but it’s the outright truth!

It’s not Spaniards’ fault if the rest of fans don’t work hard enough!

OK, now joking aside, for once I think we have sent an entry that will help us stand out from the rest, that really comes close to representing what Spain is as a country instead of following previous winners’ leads as we did last year with Almaia’s entry. This time we Spaniards have chosen a song that really feels ours and I’m already proud of us for that regardless of the outcome in Tel Aviv.

This is as legit as last year’s Amaia and Alfred winning every Wiwi poll.
Spanish fans, you deserve the “at least you tried” medal.

I like both songs. But Spain is slightly better, it’s fun. I love Albanian song but they better work on their styling, staging etc.
