It’s no secret that some Eurovision songs have become the subject of worldwide fame. Acts like ABBA and Celine Dion have gone on to become household names. The magic continued this week on US television series Riverdale, with actress Camila Mendes covering Spain’s Eurovision 1973 entry “Eres tú”.
“Eres tú” — Camila Mendes
Camila Mendes is an American actress and the daughter of Brazilian parents. In Riverdale, Mendes plays Veronica Lodge, a New York socialite turned small town school girl. Her character is known for her sharp wit and fierce friendship. She is the love interest of main character Archie Andrews (portrayed by KJ Apa) and the daughter of antagonist Hiram Lodge (portrayed by Mark Consuelos). The show airs on The CW, having debuted in 2017, and was watched by an average of over 2 million viewers in its second season.
Veronica Lodge owns and operates a speakeasy known as La Bonne Nuit in the town of Riverdale. In the tenth episode of the third season, Veronica hosts a party at her establishment for Archie’s return to Riverdale, performing her cover of “Eres tú” for him. We don’t want to spoil the story for you but the two have been apart for a number of episodes. Veronica’s performance is a momentous occasion in the duo’s torrid love affair but her romantic gesture doesn’t go down as she imagined.
The scene features many of the show’s main characters listening in on Veronica’s performance. The star-studded cast present for the fun includes Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) and Kevin Keller (Casey Cott).
“Eres tú” at Eurovision 1973
Mocedades performed the original version of “Eres tú” at Eurovision 1973. The Spanish group finished second, just four points behind Anne-Marie David’s winning entry for Luxembourg. That memorable result is one of Spain’s 7 Top 3 finishes since its 1961 debut.

If I had to list my all-time favourites, this song is a contender for number 1. I cry hard every time I listen to it

“Eres tu” is such an underrated gem. People forget that it’s one of the few Eurovision songs to crack America – number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, if you don’t mind!
