Hungary’s national selection A Dal 2019 continued tonight, with the final six acts qualifying for the semi-finals. Bogi Nagy, Joci Pápai, Petruska, Ruby Harlem, Mocsok 1 Kölykök and USNK will be heading to the semi-finals beginning next week.

The first five qualifiers were determined by a combination of televote and an expert jury made up of A Dal jury regulars Magnun Cum Laude lead singer Misi Mező and award-winning performer and composer Miklós Both, while rock legend Feró Nagy, singer-songwriter and former Eurovision jury member Lilla Vincze join the jury this year.

The vote was won by Bogi Nagy and Hungary’s Eurovision 2017 star Joci Pápai, who each scored 41 points. Next was Petruska and Ruby Harlem, who both followed closely with 40 points each. In fifth place was Mocsok 1 Kölykök with 39 points.

The sixth qualifier was selected by a second round of public voting that resulted in a contest favourite missing out. The sixth spot went to USNK who had only placed ninth in the first round of voting.

The popular rock band Leander Kills — who had placed sixth in the first round of voting — missed out on a place in the semi-finals and are now out of A Dal. Both Leander Kills and USNK topped the public vote in the first round, suggesting that the sixth qualifying place would go to one of them.

The qualifiers from tonight’s show will go on to compete in the two semi-finals, which start in next week. They’ll be joined by the qualifiers from the other two heats.

I love Joci, but I don’t know if it would be a good deal for him to go back to Eurovision with this particular song. Anyway, he’s possibly my second favorite act this year, only behind The Middletonz. Bogi was a nice surprise to me, she has a beautiful voice.

Did they replace the A Dal judges this week or something? Literally, Salvus and Leander Kills are the best rock songs this year. It was ok to put them through!
On a positive note, who else was blown away from Bogi Nagy? Like…really? Unexpected.

As much as i prefer this years song from joci papai against his song of 2 years ago and wish him all the best, the real travesty of this competition is that Leander Kills didnt progress……that is a shameful result and cannot wish Hungary luck from here on in……it DEFINITELY was good enough to have made the final…….seriously angry here!!

Petruska was my fav before this heat, but then Nagy Bogi just killed it all! And now we’ve got the third Dark Horse! Glad they both made it through.

Indeed. If he already wants to do ESC again, “Özönvíz” would’ve been a great and better entry.

I am so angry. Hazavagyom for me was the best song in any NF so far.
I’ll stop watching A Dal now, in order to not freak out many more times

I’m usually not that salty, but I think I’ll also stop watching A Dal from now on. Even though I also like Papai Joci’s song and some other songs as well, the hungarian jury is making me angry – like they do every year. I wouldn’t be even surpriced if they eliminated most of the songs I liked in the semifinals.

The hungarian jury is so unpredictable that i really haven’t got a clue who’s gonna win a dal this year.

I don’t get the fuss over Leander Kills’ song, it’s not bad but feels too flat-out middle of the road and an ethnic song we’ve heard a thousand times before.

Wow, they were not my favourites but they should have made it for sure. Did anyone here watch it? Did they have a bad performance tonight? Also how did Papai Joci do tonight with his performance?

They revamped their song and it sounded way more heavy than the studio version. But for me exactly this was the thing that made me like them way more, but not for the jury as well, seemingly. 🙁

LK in itself is simply boring, they have been using the same musical panels for years, no progress at all. these pretentious over-patriotic lyrical clichés hurt more than elevate. i am also hungarian, but without sympathy for this lack of ingenuity. the band is all about the singer, but he is only mediocre, therefore predeterminating the group to dullness
