o melodie pentru europa 2019 finalists vera turcanu diana brescan

For years, the live audition stage for Moldova’s O melodie pentru Europa has been the source of some questionable acts. This year was no different, as 26 acts tried to make it through to the next stage of the selection.

And it turns out the jury was not in a giving mood. Only ten finalists were selected, cutting the numbers down signficantly.

In fact, so few songs are left that broadcaster TRM has decided to cancel the planned semi-final for March 2. Instead, the ten remaining entries will be performed solely in the final on March 3.

Moldova: O melodie pentru Europa 2019 finalists

There are, of course, some familiar names in the final as ever. Last year’s runner up Vera Turcan is one of the most notable names in the list. She’ll be looking to go one better this year with “Cold”.

Other notable names include Diana Brescan, who reached third place in 2017 (with several final appearances before then). Other past finalists amongst those returning are Aurel Chirtoacă and Anna Odobescu.

Unfortunately, there was no space for some other familiar names. Alex Bognibov was amongst the acts culled by the jury. They clearly didn’t love Alex like his daughter!

See the full list below:

Whoever Moldova chooses, they’ll be looking to bring the country to the top ten for the third straight year. Will any of these acts be able to surpass SunStroke Project and DoReDos and snatch the Eurovision crown?

What do you think of the songs selected for O melodie pentru Europa 2019? Are you surprised to see some songs left out? Let us know all your thoughts down in the comments below!

Crap decision. They should have just sent Alex. Virus could do okay but Tinna Gi has no stage presence whatsoever.

Feeling sorry for Lume and Coral Reef, really loved their songs, but happily, most of my favs have made it through, even my winners, Che-MD ft. Elizaveta Ivasiuk! And that’s the thing that doesn’t really happen often to me. So, Sub Pamant FTW!

I’m glad the jury rejected all of those songs. They were dreadful. These songs aren’t outstanding, but at least they are listenable. I would go either for Tinna Gi — “Virus” or Vera ?urcanu — “Cold”. They sound professional and current. Actually, I think Moldova could have a chance of qualifying with one of them, as a borderline, but it’s something.

From a logical standpoint, Moldova did the right thing – They has tons of embarrasingly bad songs, and picked the best ones. 8/10 of them are in my top 10 of 28. Realistically, good job. However, part of me is a bit disappointed because the “top” songs here are very middle-of-the-road and “meh” (4s and 5s). We get to have 4s in every ESC… But to have a song rated 2 or lower is more notable. Some of them were strikingly terrible, which is way more fun than averagely bland. I do get them, though, and Sub pamint, Cold and… Read more »

To all “ Lume” lovers, this song will never pass any professional jury! Yes it is a upbit song, but vocaly this song is dead and both of artists didnt inspire any capacity of singing skills! I know Moldova does better with up bit songs but I think this year they could try something different.

Anna Odobescu – Stay , in my opinion is the best chance for Moldova this year. With a very well staged performance ( as Moldova proved multiple times) they can make to the Grand Final. Never underestimate this country. Fingers crossed, wait for surprize! They always have an ace yo pull out their sleeve.

As generic as it is I do like ‘Cold’

I wonder if the two top 10 results encouraged fewer acts to enter?

Resulting in lower quality acts

Maybe Moldova should consider allowing foreign artist to compete again to try and help increase the quality?

Wow, was the crop of contestants so bad that jury decided to bypass the semifinal all together and only select ten? Well, at least the incestuous song is out, thank god.

Thank goodness Alex was cut. We don’t need people like him and Ken in ESC.

The only song they had a chance with was “Ca Adriano Celenano,” which would have carried the torch of fun Moldovan meme songs perfectly. What a shame.

The verses of “Sub P?mînt” are a bit boring, but the chorus got me. Rock music usually stands out in the contest, and we don’t have much of it in the selections so far(except in Hungary, ofc). It’s not as good as “Mall”, but it could work.
About the rest, they just sound like NQs. Harsh but true.
