DMGP DENMARK 2019 EUROVISION

It’s the country that took home the Eurovision trophy in 2013, but that hasn’t stopped Denmark from dreaming of yet another victory in recent years. Unfortunately that has proven easier said than done.

Since Emmelie de Forest’s win in Malmö in 2013, Denmark has failed to qualify for the final twice and hasn’t gotten near the top 5 with the songs that actually made it to the final — albeit Rasmussen was a clear televote favourite last year and rightfully gave Denmark a much needed boost.

And now Denmark’s Eurovision boss Jan Lagermand Lundme admits that maybe he and national broadcaster DR have been a bit too optimistic about Denmark’s chances of securing another Eurovision triumph.

In an interview with Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet Jan Lagermand Lundme says:

“Let me put it this way. I’ve believed in it for many years and practically announced us as winners before we even got going, but I’ve now stopped doing that. It can be a bit pathetic when it’s only happened once in the last ten years”.

Still believes in a new victory

Despite this, the experienced Eurovision boss says that he still sees a chance of Denmark winning Eurovision this year, and that if he didn’t he “would have cancelled” Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2019 altogether. The entertainment boss explains that the most important thing for Denmark is to compete with a song that will do well.

“The thing that is actually important is that we find a song that can do well and get a high final result. But of course it would be the ultimate thing to win”.

What do you think about Denmark’s songs this year? Does Denmark has a chance of a top 10 result? Let us know in the comment’s box below.

I still haven’t got over the Danish jury robbing Anne Gadegaard in 2015… I’m convinced that she would have climbed high with her beautiful “Suitcase”…
And then again, the year after, how could the Danish choose Lighthouse X over Simone’s “Heart-shaped hole”?
Since 2017, it’s going downhill. Although last year, Rasmussen has been a nice addition to the line-up in Lisbon, the overall quality of the Danish preselection has dropped a lot. This year, in my opinion, marks a new low – there’s not one single song which I find at least a little interesting…

… so choose better songs, or choose a better way to select songs. Eight hundred submissions ain’t few.

Ask brother Sweden to stop sending such strong songs every year and maybe come up with a rotation system between all the Scandinavian countries to keep the victory between them. Bam!

How does he think the countries that have never won feel. Yeah I always feel rubbish that I haven’t seen my country win since 1997. Denmark last won in 2013 stop moaning.

I think most people are underestimating Hold my breath’s potential. It is such a beautiful song with simple, meaningful lyrics and Rasmus’s voice is just divine! Potential Eurovision winner! 🙂

So cancel DGP and have internal selection next year?
Cause Denmark ain’t winning this year or any time soon if they continue with weak selections. At best they will reach 22 or so, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they flop once again.

Nah, Denmark ain’t winning this year. The best options however would be “Love is forever” and “Hold my breath” in my opinion. I actually love both songs and they’re the ones that stick out the most.

It IS pathetic indeed. Honestly, I personally love all the Nordic countries and adore Denmark and its people, but NOT Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. The quality sucks. It sucks hard. They got lucky with one okay tune and the circumstances in 2013. Surely, Denmark has a lot of great music and artists but they never seem to (or want to?) find their way to their Eurovision selection. I predict they might get lucky again this year, selecting the simple, harmless but effective “Love is Forever”, once again written by Lise Cabble. Get lucky with a respectable place of course, not… Read more »

These withdrawals are because artists realize they will not win, and they don’t want to be seen as losers when in the meanwhile they could have been somewhere else, making money.

Kind of sad if that’s the reason. They set their hopes high and withdraws because of that. It’s like they’re not taking this seriously, but who knows?

Maybe you are right, but they are practical, and their fans don’t blame them for that. Romania is a country where Eurovision doesn’t destroy anybody’s career, no matter the drama, or the bad result. The artists have the most weird decisions, everybody forgets in a few days. This doesn’t mean they didn’t really wanted to be in Tel Aviv, but they are realistic and their fans understand them.
