He won the show All Together Now in January last year.

And now, Michael Rice is one of the six in the running to represent the United Kingdom in Eurovision’s Grand Final in May.

Speaking to our very own Chris, you can see the young singer has the desire to represent his country on the big stage in Tel Aviv:

“I would have never thought, like, to go from my work at McDonalds, to winning All Together Now, which is a great show, to be even standing here in the final six to be competing to go to Eurovision, it’s crazy.”

“Honestly, I wasn’t expecting how this would feel. Like, I was yesterday night knowing the song was coming out the next day, and when it came out everyone was calling me. It’s actually a really good song, and I am really proud to sing it with this amazing team.”

It is pretty clear that the match between Michael and “Bigger Than Us” was instantaneous, with Michael playing to the song’s unique qualities. “When I first originally heard the demo, I immediately fell in love. I think it’s different to what we had the previous years. I think especially this year is the most important time; we need a song that shows the world what we care about and we love, we need that big powerful song to prove that.”

To recap how this selection would work, Michael would have to duel against Holly Tandy’s own version of “Bigger than Us”, to advance to the final stage. Nevertheless, the “All Together Now” winner has nothing but praise for his fellow competitor. “I have heard Holly’s version and it’s phenomenal. As one of Holly’s biggest fans, I’m just so happy to be up against Holly, and I think both tracks turned out to be really different in their own ways.”

And we’ll find out just how that plays out very soon: Eurovision: You Decide is tonight, on February 8 in Manchester.

As a final message to the Wiwiwbloggs readers, Michael expresses his gratitude that he has this chance to represent the UK and he’s up and ready for the big day, with utmost excitement for his attempt to go to Eurovision.

What do you think of Michael’s version of “Bigger Than Us”? Does he have what it takes to take it all in Eurovision: You Decide? Let us know in the comments below!

Happy he won. The singers who made it to the final were my favourites and althought I would have liked to see Jordan winning, his live performance was really powerful and spot on. A second place on my personal top for now.

Well done Britain! i can see this song in top 10… all the 3 finalists were well desreved to represent the country… but the winner was much better live than the studio version… i wanted “freaks” to win but i am not disappointed at all with the winner! outstanding performance!

This is way too cheesy. If this wins, the UK will be in the bottom 6 again.

It’s Him and Kerrie-Anne battling it out tonight, let’s be honest. Everybody else will do well, but These two stand out the most, but Kerrie-Anne will kill it for sure. But good luck to Michael aswell

To be honest, this song feels like ‘Eurovision by numbers’ to me. I can’t even enjoy listening to it because it just feels so calculated. I think that the last part of the song is way too forced – the hand-clapping bridge that leads to a BIIIG chorus with a key change. The most authentic song to my mind is “Freaks” in the version of Jordan Clarke – “fun” fact: “Freaks” is the only song written by British songwriters, which is a pure shame in my eyes…

This is the same type of song that the UK has sent for most of the past decade. It didn’t work then, it won’t work now. Maybe it’s what Michael thinks they “need,” but it’s not what will do well.

TVP just confirmed that the Polish representative will be revealed until February 15th so we need to wait more…

Pirate streams will be up and about but I’m afraid BBC iPlayer might geoblock the hell out of non-UK visitors.

We do not. And it’s neither that big, nor that powerful.

Shame on you. He is trying to tell that this experience was so fast growing for him and lyrics of “Bigger than us” are powerful also. You maybe don’t like and of course I respect you because it’s relative thing but of course that, this song is powerful. Just try it to see the live version and after that, you can tell your negative comments.
