It’s all go in Romania. This weekend one of Eurovision’s most devoted and passionate countries will choose its 2019 singer and song in the grand final of Selectia Nationala.
And today Romanian broadcaster TVR has revealed the six people who make up this year’s international jury. The televoting public will act as “a seventh juror”.
The show, which will be broadcast live on TVR 1, TVR Moldova, TVRi, TVR HD and on-line on TVR+, takes place this Sunday, February 17, at 20:30 Romania time (so 18:30 London / 19:30 Paris).
According to the official TVR press release:
“The winner of the National Selection will be chosen by a jury consisting of Tali Eshkoli, Head of Event & Content Eurovision Song Contest 2019, Emmelie de Forest, winner of the 2013 edition, Deban Aderemi and William Lee Adams, journalists and influencers dedicated to the ESC phenomenon, Serban Cazan, Head of Production HaHaHa Production and the famous Moldovan artist Alex Calancea.”
“The six jurors gather a vast experience in the Eurovision phenomenon and the native music industry and add value to the National Selection.”
“Tali Eshkoli is one of the heavy names of the entertainment industry in Israel. With an internationally renowned experience, Tali Eshkoli occupies an important position in the Eurovision 2019 organization as Head of Event & Content and senior Core Team member of Israeli public television Kan / IPBC.”
“Emmelie de Forest, the Eurovision Song Contest winner 2013 with the hit ‘Only Teardrops’, is coming for the first time in Romania for the jury final, but also for supporting a recital at the event. For the first time in the history of Romania’s participation in Eurovision, a winner of the international competition participates in the election of our representative in the contest.”
“Founder and editor of the most famous independent Eurovision website, wiwibloggs.com, William Lee Adams has helped to select representatives from at least 12 countries and has extensive experience with the latest trends in the contest.”
We’d also add that he’s covered Eurovision for the New York Times, Bloomberg and Billboard, and wrote one of Billboard’s earliest profiles of the pop star Dua Lipa.
“His colleague, Deban Aderemi, is a writer, vlogger and music expert with a career of two decades at the international competition, during which he documented the editions and conducted hundreds of interviews with the participants. Deban is judging a national selection for the first time on Sunday.”
“A successful producer, Serban Cazan creates music and synergies between producers and artists at Hahaha Production, an important independent music production provider in Romania. Serban is not at his first Eurovision experience, and in 2018 he is involved in the participation of the well-known Feli performer at the National Selection. Serban has been living through music since he knows, made over 10 years of piano, 5 years of singing and over 15 years of musical production.”
“A well-known artist, producer, composer and lecturer at the Chisinau Conservatory, Alex Calancea has collaborated with almost all soloists and instrumentalists in Moldova and is known for his unique musical style. Alongside Alex Calancea Band band, the well-known bassist played the lead recital in the final of Eurovision Romania 2018, with a fusion of authentic folklore, a ‘capricious bass’, charismatic voices and modern rhythms entitled “LUPII”. This year, he returns to a new position as a member of the international jury.”

Laura is NOT HOMOPHOBIC how many times do I have to tell y’all???
Dear Lord… so many empty words!…
in other news croatia released snippets of the songs
Please guys vote for everything but not laura homophobic bretan 😉 peace and love..and enjoy !!!
She is not homophobic,im glad Deban and William is there, they will clarify that for all of you.
Good Luck guys. Give us a surprise winner 🙂
It seems that we’re going to have lots of hateful comments on Sunday, regardless of the winner, and that’s not a Eurovision spirit.
Let’s be honest. It is the Eurovision spirit when fans are on each other’s throats.
OMG Wiwibloggs im from Romania…12 points GOES TO LAURA BRETAN…Don’t f…it up.
I also want Bella to win, eventhough I’m not that passionate about her song. But please guys, don’t be disrespectful towards Laura, don’t be so immature.
I’m not so sure about that. In the end, “Dear Father” is an ideologically difficult entry because it implicitly propagates a fundamentally christian belief that is viewed ciritcally even by Roman-Catholic Theologians. And if the public is not aware of that, I hope the jury will be.
Yeah I know, but I really don’t think the message is on the nose enough for the EBU to investigate it. Also, the message doesn’t change the fact, that people shouldn’t be so rude and hate on her so much.
I just think, it’s so bland to make the message subtle enough. That doesn’t make it less dangerous. It’s not good to be rude to an artist in public though. That makes it even more important to criticize a song with good arguments. And that’s very simple in this case.
Look at them Bella fans bashing Laura. You guys will be disappointed this Sunday.
Bellas Debut-Single is composed by Serban Cazan: who is a member of the international jury.. stop corruption tvr
Congrats, William and Deban. 🙂 I wish you pick the song YOU think is the best, regardless of the hype or the opinion of others. You have a huge responsibility now and I am sure you will rock at it. All the best! 🙂
We should not let a homophobe like Laura Bretan into Eurovision Song Contest! For all those saying she is not homophobic, YES she is. Watch this video: https://youtu.be/o42JTxRTfdI . And then please read about the Romanian 2018 referendum on wikipedia. Someone who miltates against same sex marriages means he views them as inferior to heterosexuals and wants to take away a FUNDAMENTAL right they should have. This is clear homophobia. If someone said they support only the marriage between white persons and campaigned against black and white marrying in such a referendum, wouldn’t that be racist? She is homophobe. Period. We don’t… Read more »
That wasnt a gay marriage referendum ,stop spreading lies .
YES IT WAS. People, just inform yourseld. Go on wikipedia and read about the 2018 Romanian referendum
This is litteraly the first phrase from wikipedia:
“A referendum took place in Romania on 6 and 7 October 2018 regarding the definition of the family in the Romanian Constitution. The referendum asked voters whether or not they approve a change to the family’s definition as provided by Article 48 of the Constitution, to prohibit same-sex marriage.”
How can you lie about it when there is wikipedia and the internet with hundreds of articles about it? Do you think people are so stupid? Lol
Wekipedia is not a valid source of information, anyone can edit the page and it’ll look legit.
You know that there are references right? That’s how wikipedia works..
Stop the hate, pls
Your argument is invalid christoph.
Wait, what the hell should mean that public acts as a 7th juror? That public decides only 1/7 of votes? If so, it sounds San Remo type of rigging all over again.
WiWIBLOGGS can you switch the comments off on this Topic, people tend to become agressive with their comments.Thank you.
the romanian from the jury has made bella first single this is pure corruption.. bella will win because tvr wants that
Why wouldn’t they pick Bella? No-brainer.
Wait who’s Laura again? Been a minute since I heard all the songs.
Yes! Now that’s one (or should I say two) more reason to watch Selectia Nationala on Sunday. Choose wisely guys, that’s quite a responsibility!
Serban Boiler??? :)))))))))) F..K google translate! He’s name is CAZAN.
LOL
Good for Romania ,you saw last year the outcome from the Televote.
I hope they would choose Bella, but i’m afraid they’ll pick Laura..
Well, that would make the NF exciting again. Laura winning the televote is extremely obvious, because she is super famous in Romania…
I don’t hope that homophobic Laura wins. Bella Santiago FTW!
She is not homophobic .
She’s not homophobic… smh… this hate is too much
For all those saying she is not homophobic, YES she is. She is not homophobic.
Bella is good but Laura song is better. Romanians dont care about the homophobic nonsense..So dont get high hopes. The “homophobic” comments even help more Laura…You forget that Romanian society is very antigay…like 9o% anti….
LAURA BRETAN FTW!!!!!!!
Romania is currently number 4 in the odds. This is because of Laura Bretan. Not Bella Santiago, nor Linda Teodosiu, nor anyone else
Yes they are 4 ,at some point was 3 ,i think mostly people arround the world react with so much shock to Laura song ,youtube is full with reactions .
Will the public score really count as a 7th jury member so that it will count as 1/7? Or will it be 50/50 for the points?
Just as a 7th jury member.
Thats so awesome to hear! Congrats guys!
Debat and William how much do I need to pay you to vote for Bella Santiago?
Both Laura and Bella are 6/10 for me. So I don’t care which one will be chosen. Neither of those will bring something interesting to Tel Aviv. One of them is heavily inspired by Cyprus 2018, the other one by Estonia 2018. But both of them are good at what they are doing.
Laura is not inspiared by Estonia 2018 ,your so wrong there.
I hope they send Bella Santiago. That girl rocks the stage. Great voice, great performer.
And the worst song.
