Darude has come to save the day with his second UMK 2019 song, “Superman”. The international hitmaker has again produced an EDM-style pop track, with vocals from Sebastian Rejman. The song is the second of the three that will compete in Finland’s national final UMK 2019.

“Superman” is an uplifting song, where Sebastian sings of a person who makes him feel “like a superman”. He sings to a person who holds an important place in his life, someone who is there to help him be the best person he can be.

The chorus builds up with the strong hook, “‘Cause only you can make me fly like I’m Superman”, building up a memorable refrain.

The song also features little electronic flourishes that may remind fans of Darude’s iconic single “Sandstorm”. It serves as a reward for long-term fans of Darude and a reminder of his substantial career as a producer.

Darude feat. Sebastian Rejman – “Superman” music video

The single comes with a whimsical music video that sees Darude playing a superhero named “Darude Man”.

His powers are impressive: he saves a fan’s cellphone from smashing to the ground and rescues a runaway skateboard (and busts out some cool skating moves). He even helps out an old woman with her groceries, only to be cajoled into vacuuming her house and unblocking her toilet — just like a superhero would.

In the middle of all this, Darude Man still has time to do a video call with his kid — a reminder of how parents can be superheroes to their kids (and vice versa).

“Superman” will compete alongside “Release Me” and the yet to be released third track, due out next Friday.

The three songs will be performed live at the grand final of UMK 2019 on 2 March. After public and jury voting, the winning song will become Finland’s entry for Eurovision 2019.

What do you think of “Superman”? Is it better than “Release Me”? Which song would you like to see represent Finland in Tel Aviv? Share your thoughts below!

The third song better be a banger tune otherwise finland won’t qualify with these two average tracks.

Darude was top of the world in 2001. Unfortunately he’s been left behind since then. This song would have been great in 2001. Finland has some incredible djs producing cutting edge stuff (i.e. YOTTO). Why go with 2001?

Vocals are horrible in this one! Like the beat, though.

This would seem to be the “father who wants to be good to his kids” Superman, rather than the dark character leading a double-life who fights for justice against the ills of humanity. In essence, Superman if straight. 😛
And therein lies the issue – the fatherly aspect of the song is just there, and like the song’s nice rising and descending melodic hook and repetitive harmonies, it’s an idea that doesn’t develop, move on or climax. I preferred “Release Me” to this one.

I think the old selection was better. That or they should have sent that Finnish French folk duo.

Why is it that people with, seemingly , very little knowledge of the english language , think they can write meaningful lyrics for a song in english…it is beyond me… the lyrics in this song are just DIRE. Obviosly there is money behind these tracks , so please spend a bit on a decent lyricist. !!

So 1st semi it’s Cyprus and basically everyone else has a shot at the final. Even San Marino.

The video is very lovely, but the song is mere average, even worse. “Release Me” is not fantastic either, but is much better than this.

I honestly don’t know what euroqueens want anymore. 43 Nettas, 43 hippies, 43 circus acts one after the other every year? Nothing pleases you. “Superman” is a friendly EDM song of known style, good to listen and a mood lifter, well produced and with the potential to be a radio hit. And you still complain because it’s not “2019 enough”? Bleh, you can take your complains and have them ignored, because in the end you jumpy euroqueens don’t even account for the 0.01% of the people who actually votes for these songs. Comments like the ones in this thread make… Read more »

I agree with you about the euroqueen stuff, but the problem with this song is that it’s just boring and this house music was popular in 2012 and is very worn out, because there are so many songs like this. Look at top Eurovision songs from previous years: Netta had chicken sounds, which made it special. Germany 2018 brought some emotion. Portugal 2017 was artsy, classy and emotional. Ukraine 2016 had unique sound, unique vocals, emotional performance. Belgium 2015 was modern and the vocals were great. Latvia 2015 was probably one of the most avant garde songs in Eurovision. That’s… Read more »

Even though both aren’t that great, “Release Me” Is definitely better and way more catchy and original. “Superman” sounds like any other basic EDM song out there, and that’s not a compliment.

Hmm, it seems that we will get the same scenario as Saara’s: good televoting score in the SF, flopping with the juries tho. In the final, <20th.

I like more this one, but both are average. I have a feeling that Sebastian vocals have been autotuned too much in this one, so the live performance may disappoint. They better has a bop in their pocket, cause Finland is giving me flop vibes.

“Release me” was better, but neither of these are good. And I know y’all are trying to be optimistic…but I can’t imagine the third being super amazing. I think it’s hard to have a successful EDM entry in Eurovision honestly.

I’m from Finland and I hate both songs. They are embarrassing, dull and old-fashioned. And unlike most, I thought immediately that Darude was a bad choice for Eurovision. Finland is constantly trying to think about who might be able to succeed in Eurovision, instead of trying to be creative and original.

It’s a no from me. I thought Release Me was disappointing but still acceptable. This one is repetitive, boring, uninspiring. And sorry, I really dislike Sebastian’s voice. I’m kind of losing hope on Finland this year, neither of these songs holds a candle to Monsters.

Evan

I think the beat and especially the mix of this one are much better than “Release Me.” Yeah, the lyrics are corny but the “Release Me” lyrics were goofy too. Still, they’ll need more than this to have a good finish at ESC. Below, someone mentioned that Sebastian is the problem. His voice is a little generic, but it sounds to me like people are having more of a problem with the even more generic EDM rhythms that the songs are built around. Perhaps hiring someone whose biggest (?only major) hit came out 20 years ago was destined to make… Read more »

I perfer Release Me, although Superman is not bad, as well. Release Me has richer melody and is more modern than Superman. Unless the third one is really really bad, imho Finland is in for a much better entry than last year, in spite of Saara Alto’s carisma.

This was incredibly repetitive in a bad way – I kept checking the play time to see how much longer was left. I much prefer release me as at least it kept me hooked. Also they didnt feature the singer at all in this video that I could see?

I really like it, it’s very enjoyable to listen to and I’d even say it’s better than the first one which makes me think he’s saving the best to the last.

I hate when people say something like “this is not for ESC” etc. But honestly his songs doesn’t sound like Eurovisionish. These are like some radio-friendly songs you can see in the fan contests. I don’t know if that’s a good or thing or not.
