The musical trio Anna Rossinelli are famous for representing Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011. Since then, they have solidified their presence in their native country by scoring the soundtrack to the Winter Olympics and releasing 5 Top 10 albums. Of those albums, the most recent effort — White Garden — has now topped the official Swiss music charts.
White Garden — Anna Rossinelli
Drawing from themes of intimacy and seclusion, White Garden is an 11 track LP that harnesses the seductive vocals of their lead singer Anna, and the live instrumentation of Manuel Meisel and Georg Diller. However, this live sound is cradled by synths and sparse digital sounds. Standout tracks include the title track, “Sing For Silence”, “Eyes Closed”, “Come Alone” and the current hit single “Hold Your Head Up”. Jan Reis — an established concept designer serves as the artistic director, and is directly responsible for the stunningly beautiful artwork and the visual concept for their current single.
Speaking exclusively to wiwibloggs, Anna Rossinelli explains:
White Garden was more about working with a close-knit group on sounds, arrangements and songs. It took years to produce it. Much of what influenced the content and sound of this album were the breakups, transitions and new beginnings of all the band members.
Firstly, we all wrote individually and collated those ideas in our practice room. Then, we began recording demos with our producer Simon Kistler. Fabio Friedli (aka Pablo Nouvelle) was later drafted as our sound designer and then became our co-producer. During much of the cold winter last year, we were stationed at the Balik Studio (mainly known for high-end salmon fishing) in Toggenburg, far away from any city and without access to any telecoms, including our mobile phones. This situation greatly influenced our creativity. After this spell, we continued the work for a few more months in Simon Kistler’s Studio.
White Garden represents the phase after a long relationship, new-orientation, getting lost and finding comfort in new lovers.

It seems that Anna Rossinelli have mastered their craft and hit a new peak on this album. A decidedly different approach from their previous album Takes Two to Tango, this musical journey ditches their former American sound to explore universal themes of love, depth and despair. Rightfully, it sits on the top of the Swiss charts. With the right exposure, this deserves a high-charting global presence.

Hold Your Head Up definitely grows the more you hear it, and I love the video. I’m glad to see they’re still going strong, I loved their 2011 entry.
