Ten acts gave their all tonight in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix to represent Denmark in Tel Aviv. Sigmund brought the sass and attitude with “Say My Name”. Julie & Nina were almost in a league of their own with “League of Light”.
But a nail-biting superfinal saw Leonora and her entry “Love Is Forever” making its way to Israel.
Leonora — “Love Is Forever”
“Love Is Forever” saw sweetness and jauntiness personified on stage. Leonora, dressed in a white shirt and suspenders with her fiery red hair pulled back, brought an essence of French chanteuse to the stage. The camera stayed almost static on her stunning face – focusing on her beautiful feminine features, before panning out to two backing dancers who joined her on stage for some clever leg choreography.
Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2019 — Results
Ten acts came to battle for the three spots in the superfinal. A five-member jury, as well as the public, decided on the three acts proceeding to the final round – Sigmund, Julie & Nina and Leonora.
With the superfinal votes coming in, Sigmund placed third with 23% of the votes. Gracious in defeat, Julie & Nina came second with a total of 35% of all votes. A shell-shocked Leonora accrued a total 42% of votes, sending “Love Is Forever” straight to Tel Aviv.
What do you think of Denmark’s choice? Is Leonora a worthy follow-up to last year’s Rasmussen? Let us know your thoughts down below!
Horrible. Disneyesque nightmare delivered by a rabbit caught in the headlights. Rubbish like this had it’s place in the 80’s, and even then it was rubbish.
I like this song. It’s just so sweet and charming.
I think this song could be one of the surprises in 2019.
It sounds Anna Rossineli indeed (someone said in the comments below). I’m not a fan of such songs I must say. Beautiful voice though.
Music for commercials or Junior Eurovision with collected cringy instagram captions formed as lyrics, lol
A clear winner. The others were too much a like. This stands out in a different but positive way.
I preferred League of Light at first but this song is also really good. Love the mixture of languages. Reminds me of a song that would be in a romantic movie like Letters to Juliet. Very soothing and special.
This has a certain charm about it but enought to make a mark at eurovision, I’m not to sure, it’s all a bit bland. But vikings aside that seems to be a Danish speciality at eurovision in recent years, playing it far too safe.
A mix between Lena and Anna Rossinelli…… I like it.
So far, its oblt 1good son and its a realy goid dobg and its Denmark. The rest its crap.
congrats to her, but julie & nina would have been the best choice, in my opinion.
Dear God what is happening with Eurovision this year, yet another NF where, in my opinion, the best song is not picked. League of Light would have bern my choice. I just can’t understand Europe right now, this a terrible year !!!!
Boring and childish.
Creepy……………………
french part is useless. I think, she should stick to English (or change the french part into Dannish)
Anyway… best choice of 10.
Sigmund was my favourite. Too bad they didn’t pick him.
Very “Lenka”, suitable for a commercial, but it’s cute I suppose.
So generic. The lyrics are annoying.
Agreed. Last year’s Denmark had more character
Adorable, amazing, relatable, refreshing, heartwarming, harmonic, cute, careful, multilingual, magnificent <3
Angelina from JESC called, she wants her staging back
Just once crazy Danes did not fu.k it up….I see this pulling a big big surprise in tel Aviv
Yeah coming last in the semifinal.
That’s not surprising. What’s surprising would be if it can actually qualify.
“Leonora Zooey Deschanel”. – almost a haiku
Please let me know when Leonora films an actual music video for “Love Is Forever”. 🙂
Leonora’s official video is here:

For a re-make, I would like to see them go colourful and cartoonish, but maybe with an ice skating world? It can’t be too much like “Loin d’Ici”, or some of us would cry foul. Leonora has her own ice skating USP, so it will no doubt feature that somewhere.
Finally. I am so happy that they chose this one. It’s a heart-warming song and the singer comes across very authentic and loveable…
Nordics love their slow, peceful rhythms.
Latvia and Denmark have both selected slow, loungy styles and I like them both.
I don’t mind it but it does sound like a Christmas song sometimes
One more point, will she skate at Eurovision? It’s going to be interesting.
She’ll have to be accompanied by a figure skater.
Imagine an ice-skate duet on Tel Aviv! 😀
“And a Russian man on skates”…oh, it’s Danish this time.
Singing and skating at the same time would be spectacular and incredibly risky. I like how you think. 🙂
Good choice, Reminds me of Katie Melua.
Gosh… What is going on this year. From all national finals only Ukraine sent the right act! You could’ve had Greenlandic culture in Eurovision but you choose a French dull generic song.
We could have ESC Nuuk 2020! Would it even be possible? I mean Greenland is technically Danish territory. Do they have a venue?
None of the Danish songs would have won!
Only just about – a long a tragic story – and not one in Denmark’s favour.
For once the favourite won but I’m not sure it makes it better:
It’s cute but so silly, so corny. it’s so inoffensive that no one would vote for it. I do get an Anna Rossinelli vibe from her,and I feel she might end up the same way: Cute and sweet but to corny, to sweet. All sunshine and rainbows, no clouds. Just sugar and a coronary attack.
Denmark is far from winning this year..
I see that the Wiwi post about Portugal is fashionably late.
Another night of mediocre choices and another day waiting for a song that screams WINNER. Not bad, but I don’t feel anything.
Boring and generic
Well, it’s more French than our French song this year (I’m joking, don’t kill me!) but I love it. It can be sung along, has a good melody, and overall lovely.
Another remark, the lives at DMGP is great and the stagings lift up the songs. Would not hesitate to call Denmark ‘the country of confettis’ from now on.
Mmmm… surprise surprise… a bit silly as a choice, but a big difference from last year. It might do very well with the televote, especially with the more infantile audiences, that do vote.
I haven’t seen her live performance, but the song is cute and should so really really well at Eurovision, that will have juries and televoters on board. I think the producers of the show will want to give it a good slot in the running order as well, because they will want the competition to be as anti-political as possible, (no shade, not trying to say what they should or shouldn’t do. Just calling it as I see it)
Not agreeing with this one. I thought it was one of the worst songs in the selection. I actually really liked the songs that Denmark had this year.
I have to say, this was my favourite from the selection from first listen. It is a sweet, charming melody and Leonora’s vocals are sublime.
I feared that Denmark might select something else which would have been less striking, so i am very happy.
This will sail to the final in Tel Aviv.
Well done Leonora and well done Denmark….
Lots of love from Ireland
I like it. It’s so sweet and cute. Makes me wanna stand up and dance all over the place like a little child.
Meanwhile in Portugal…
the public showing AGAIN better taste than the juries!
I disagree. NBC didn’t perform that good while Surma did.
yeah, she’s cool, but Igual a Ti is much stronger and has a lot of potential.
Not this time. Surma slayed!
well, the public clearly didn’t feel that slayage.
Only in SF 1
Yes, I m happy to see Madrepaz in final.
I guess it’s quite a cute song. Not my number one choice, but I get why it won. It has some charm.
PS. Congrats, Purple Mask, I am genuinely glad for you and Leonora. It might not be my day, but at least it’s someone’s 🙂
So cute, but also so clueless. In a national final without standout acts, it got extra points for being accessible. The funny thing is that last year Denmark had “Starlight” as an option and that was a song in the same lane, but a much better one in my opinion. I like the way they staged it tonight. Leonora’s face is so friendly, it was the right choice to keep the camera on her most of the time. I would say that they should go full cartoonish with it in Tel Aviv and hope for the best.
I didn’t know she was also behind “Starlight”. Now it makes much more sense! It’s almost like a different track from the same album.
She somehow reminded me of Lady Rose from Downton Abbey… :p
The song wasn’t my favourite, but it’s sweet and the French chanson feel might make people vote! Maybe the type of people who also liked Loin d’ici.
Sounds like trying-too-hard to sound cute.
Also, reminds me of Caro Emerald.
Love it. 10/10
Cute song, but she needs to practice how to “work” the camera. She sort of looks awkward and terrified at times…
Yall- this was my absolute fave and I never thought it would actually win! Let’s hope the next NFs will pick the right winner as well. This is the only song with a chance at qualifying, this is so sweet and nice and the French part is to die for- Denmark might very well be an outsider in May.
YES!
“dont get too political” is the most cringey lyric I’ve ever heard
Telling those protesters camped outside what’s what.
I wonder if that’s the reason it won altogether…
Yeah, and this is why all the Eurovision fans love this song!
i really enjoy this song. finally something uplifting.
Julie & Nina were better.
Switzerland 2011 part 2, the remix
Hahahaha “the remix” XD
Pity Rasmussen didn’t enter Go beyond and do a follow up year, apart from league of light his song was better than any of those tonight.
I dont get the negative reactions. An easy top 10 finish for Denmark this year, this is catchy and adorable. Good luck!
