The fourth semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2019 took place in the Sparbanken Lidköping Arena in Lidköping. We now know the last of the songs proceeding direkt till final. The line-up is also complete for next week’s Andra Chansen.

John Lundvik with “Too Late for Love” and Bishara with “On My Own” will proceed direkt till final, while Lisa Ajax with “Torn” and Arvingarna with “I Do” have secured their spots in Andra Chansen.

Melodifestivalen 2019: Semi-Final 4 qualifiers

John Lundvik — “Too Late for Love”

John Lundvik cried “hear me” and Sweden obliged. Dancing across a variety of tempos and rhythms, a slow build-up turns into a catchy chorus. John’s charisma lights up the stage. The performance was very soulful and John Lundvik cemented his place in the final for the second year running.

Bishara — “On My Own”

Safe in a circle of green light, Bishara delivered a strong performance alone on stage. He captured Swedish hearts with “On My Own”, performing with confidence beyond his years. Bishara becomes the final act to qualify direkt till final.

Andra Chansen

Lisa Ajax — “Torn”

She may be on her knees but Lisa Ajax ain’t staying down. Lisa Ajax expertly conveyed all of the emotion of “Torn”. With minimalistic staging, there wasn’t much going on other than Lisa’s powerful vocals and the atmosphere created by this dark ballad. Much like 2017, Lisa will have to battle her way through Andra Chansen to reach the final.

Arvingarna — “I Do”

I do, I do, I do! Arvingarna brought a performance befitting any Melfest semi-final. There was energy and fun to be had as Arvingarna delivered one of the catchiest hooks of the year. Whether or not they progress any further is unclear but this makes a wholesome addition to Andra Chansen.

Melodifestivalen 2019: Semi-Final 4 eliminated acts

5th place: Ann-Louise Hanson — “Kärleken finns kvar”

Ann-Louise Hanson brought experience and composure to the stage. This was easy listening and enjoyable for the three minutes but never a threat to qualify amid a sea of stronger entries. However, Ann-Louise held her own and made it through to the second round of voting, beating out Anton Hagman and Pagan Fury.

6th place: Anton Hagman — “Känner dig”

Anton Hagman brought an army of Anton Hagmans to his stage show over a bright pink background. Unfortunately, more Anton Hagmans didn’t translate into more votes. “Känner dig” had a much more mature sound for Anton and was a respectable effort but will go no further in Melfest 2019.

7th place: Pagan Fury — “Stormbringer”

Video game realness! Pagan Fury brought the storm to Melfest 2019. The lead singer was surrounded by a group of dancers who put the fury in Pagan Fury. This was a quality performance but seemed to be forgotten by the end of the night.

Andra Chansen duels

The duels for Andra Chansen have also been announced. The two acts from semi-finals 1 and 2 have been drawn to face each other. Similarly, the acts from semi-finals 3 and 4 will battle against each other.

  • Andreas Johnson — “Army of Us” vs Anna Bergendahl — “Ashes to Ashes”
  • Vlad Reiser — “Nakna i regnet” vs Nano — “Chasing Rivers”
  • Martin Stenmarck — “Låt skiten brinna” vs Lisa Ajax — “Torn”
  • Rebecka Karlsson — “Who I Am” vs Arvingarna — “I Do”

Melodifestivalen 2019: Semi-Final 4 running order

  1. Pagan Fury — “Stormbringer”
  2. Anton Hagman — “Känner dig”
  3. Lisa Ajax — “Torn”
  4. Arvingarna — “I Do”
  5. Bishara — “On My Own”
  6. Ann-Louise Hanson — “Kärleken finns kvar”
  7. John Lundvik — “Too Late for Love”

What do you think of the results? Did the right songs proceed direkt till final? What do you think of the Andra Chansen duels? Let us know in the comments below.

Pleace, all fantasic escfans. <3 Don’t forget Bishara only is 16 years old. If you don’t like the song or his voice. Write about that in a respecfull tone. Think that many have mange to do that. Thank you for that. <3
I don’t mean that you shouldn’t have opinions. But be extra carefull when you choose your worlds when you write about all the young artists from diffrent countries.
I hope he dosen’t win. I don’t want him to face the same hate that Frans received 2016.

Bishara for victory! He could win Eurovision and oozes of star quality. John Lundvik can never win since he´ll be competing against himself and without a doubt Sweden and the UK will steal votes from each other. It´s the same vibe and same kind of song, artist and performance.

Ehmm.. “Too late for love” is miles better than “Bigger than us”! He’s bookies favourite to Mello. And I agree. Glad that Björkman and co. wanted him to compete with Too late for love instead of UK’s song.

I agree. Too late for love is better and John is better than the british guy. Don’t get me wrong! The british guy is great! A huge talent! But, John is more ready for this. The british guy looks a bit uncomfortable on stage, waving his arms around and it is obvious that he hasn’t been an artist for very long. John is a pro. He’s comfortable on stage, his voice sounds amazing and he knows who he is as an artist and that shows on stage. And I believe that Bigger than us would be better if John would… Read more »

John Lundvik has the best song I heard during this NF season. I hope it wins. It’s better than “Nobody but You” at least on the virtue of those backing vocalists and more touching lyrics.

The thing is, if you are 16 you can get a lot of hate but once people hear your vocals they’ll drop the number e.g. Belgium 2015, Bulgaria 2017 and Belgium 2017 but Bishara’s voice is just so childish especially for a song like that.

John Lundvik was great but can’t help to think that it’s Christer’s attempt to copy Cesar Sampson and Austria and ensure he gets the jury vote again….I find Nobody But You much more modern and radio-friendly than Too Late for Love…I didn’t love Bishara’s performance, but listened to the song on iTunes and got a bit of the goosebumps, its just odd seeing a 16 year old talking about waking up in bed without anyone next to him especially when the 16 year old looks 12

Look at it like this, if Bisharas voice had already changed and he had a more masculine , darker voice would you think the same then? I mean he gets hate for being talented that poor kid. I just watched MelFest back properly. Pagan Fury was amazing – that was so unlucky not to qualify! John Lundvik won the night for me, and Lisa Ajax was stunning as usual. Arvingarna are great fun – what a wonderful surprise! 🙂
Bishara – I’m sorry; the song is not settling well with me, because of what has already been mentioned. Not much I can do but wish the performer well, and ask that the Swedish audience to reconsider its decision in the final.

Bishara has great talent! But he’s not mature enough as an artist yet. He has no idea who he is as an artist and they have given him a mediocre song with lyrics that doesn’t suit him at all. I hope he places well (to give him confidence) and comes back in a couple of years with a song that is more him and that suits him better.

Think we need a female winner of Melodifestivalen this year. The last 4 winners and runner ups have all been male. Time has to change or the jury needs to change. There are not enough women winning! Amazing performance by John Lundvik and his fantastic backing vocals. Lisa did a very good job and would be my other qualifier. I guess you took the “fully formed” as a negative statement towards Bishara, but it wasn’t. He’s very impressive for his age in a lot of aspects. The way he interacts with the camera for example, there are people that won’t get to that point in a lifetime. But some things don’t depend on his talent or his effort. For example, I feel his voice is still changing. Puberty sucks, it happens to everyone. But it affects even the best singers and he’s not an exception.

Though I agree teenagers need more protection than adults in this scenario, I think the amount of pressure and hate every artist feel when they join a competition must be tough to handle no matter what’s their age. The worst thing is that I bet sometimes the pressure start from those around the artists when they were the ones supposed to take care of them.

Indeed. I can see both sides though:
On the one hand, this is appealing to those committing illegal crimes; and that is disgusting.
On the other hand, teenagers do have sex with each other – that is a reality, and shouldn’t be censored.
It is a debate.

Evan

Illegal crimes? Presumably, the song is about Bishara and some partner who is also a teenager. Nothing illegal about that. I don’t have a problem with teenagers exploring their sexuality. But the song should reflect a life experience that its teenaged singer might have had. Instead, the lyrics apply a very adult notion of some guy whose girlfriend sleeps over every night. I’m no prude, but I certainly never knew any couples when I was a teenager who had an arrangement like that. This is clearly a song sung by a teenager but written by an adult with adult relationships… Read more »

Yep. The song was written by: Benjamin Ingrosso (21), Markus Sepehrmanesh (41) and Robert Habolin (who has also written for Måns Zemerlow and Zara Larsson).
There is no shortage of songwriting talent here, or responsibility to the meaning of the song. So what is the reason that this song was given to a 16-year-old boy who arguably looks younger?… Up for debate.

So happy John Lundvik made it to the final! I have a strong feeling he can win the entire thing and I would love for him to represent us in Eurovision. His voice is incredible and so is his choir. It’s great that he didn’t use pre-recorded backing vocals (except for maybe that small part before the final chorus) which means it can translate well for Eurovision where everything has to be live.

He has the best voice in the final by a mile, and the song is really catchy. He was my winner last year, and might be this year too. If not then I hope Mohombi takes it. I dont like Wictorias lack of variation in tone (to me it sounds like she is screaming her lungs out for three minutes), and Hanna and Liamoo is just not good enough of a song imo. (They sound pretty great together though, I admit). And Jon Henriks song is much weaker than his previous two.

I really like his song as well! I’d be happy if sweden sent him!

I liked Lisa Ajax more than Bishara but I’m okay with this. I hope John Lundvik wins the whole thing. Would be really bad for the UK though…

That would be really intresting if that happens. I wonder if something like that has happened before in ESC.

I liked John Lundvik, but Bishara’s singing was really annoying. Still hope Jon Henrik will win, though I doubt it.

ok jokes aside, that was it? Thats all the entries? If those songs were on another national selection everyone would be mad with the quality but of course everything sweden does is perfect….

Didn’t downvote (imo its just better to state why onee disagrees). In this case, I think practically all DtF songs this year are more appealing than Benjamin’s last year, so I don’t expect Sweden to do that bad in the popular vote.

Jon-Herik’s song is far worse than his previous entries…And I can’t see Sweden in top 10 this year with these chosen songs…So many generic pop songs with good vocals and that’s it.
