There’s still a lot of time to run until the showdown in Tel Aviv. But our Spotify playlist is filling up fast, as most of the competing songs are already available. The streaming figures on Spotify give us an impression of what fans have on replay (though, obviously Tamta’s “Replay” isn’t among them as it isn’t fully out). With the current numbers in, Italy’s Mahmood and France’s Bilal Hassani are sitting happily on top.

In the weeks leading up to Eurovision in Tel Aviv, we’ll be tracking the entries on Spotify and giving you an overview of which songs have made the biggest gains over the past seven days. It’s obviously not a perfect science, as you can stream artists from your home country. But it’s a fun barometer to look at anyway.

Today’s update is the starting point on the road to the three shows in May. Most of the competing songs are already available for streaming (and you can do listen via our playlist linked right here).

Spotify streaming charts

# Country Streams # Country Streams
1 Italy 18.550.740 8 Hungary 72.503
2 France 4.745.882 9 Slovenia 59.710
3 Spain 3.729.183 10 Latvia 50.376
4 Estonia 507.024 11 Romania 50.114
5 Australia 254.896 12 Germany 43.477
6 Czech Republic 140.621 13 Denmark 35.569
7 Ukraine 79.716 14 Croatia 11.318

The table above shows the current number of streams for each song as of today, 24 February. While fourteen songs are currently available on the platform, the entries from Albania, Lithuania, Montenegro and the United Kingdom haven’t been released yet.

“Soldi” is the leader so far — and by some distance. The track has accumulated more than 1.5 million daily streams in Italy alone and sits close to 20 million streams right now. Following behind are France and Spain which have also reached six-figure numbers. Surprisingly, Estonia comes in fifth with a considerable gap to Australia’s “Zero Gravity”. Croatia’s entry “The Dream” is currently in last position, but there’s still plenty of time for that to change.

What do you think about the current Spotify stats? Do they indicate a possible win for Italy? Let us know in our comments box below!

Is this not all a bit pointless San remo is a big deal in Italy and has huge ratings, a few years back gabbani and the ape were way ahead in every poll you tube ect but what everyone failed to recognise that it was largely just Italy were the song was a big hit. I have my doubts wheater a sizeable amount of these streams are from outside Italy.

Am i the only person thinking revamps are meaningless? Let me explain with an example: Sanremo is a music contest, not a national selection, so the revamp might have sense because of the time restricion and the goal itself; “Destination Eurovision” is a national final that exist only as a music/artist selection, so the song is made based on the contest and as the final result. What it seems to me is more something like a continuing experiment to change the song based on audience responses.

Revamps can backfire. SuRie last year was much better before they changed it.

Russia and Sweden are almost always leading in the betting, especially at this relatively early stage.
They are always at the top of betting because they are almost always a surefire for a Top 10, possibly even Top 5 position regardless what they send.

Russia and Sweden are always at the top because they’re the safest bets, as they usually end up high in the contest.
That will change when Russia and Sweden actually choose a song.

it’s the first ever contemporary r&b entry in the history of the contest. most eurovision songs are dated and incompatible with the current music market whereas soldi is exactly what consumers want, without being generic or predictable. issa convincin winner.

Celine Dion is also outdated because she sing beautiful balads with gorgeous voice? But r’n’b is modern. There is no modern or no modern music, music is just good with emotion and incredibile voice. If voice is not important then everybody will sing. Music is emotion. Voice is conection between emotions and public.

Spotify? What’s that? 😛
Ironic that a song warning about the “money” is, well, getting the biggest reward. How about that for perfect reverse physchology! Mahmood, bravo.
In the context of Eurovision, I don’t take anything on Spotify seriously since:
a. Not all songs are released in every country (Germany’s being a case and point).
b. A lot of people I know don’t use Spotify, and some don’t even know what it is. “Is it a skincare product?” was a question I once got asked. Seriously.

Am I the only one who does not get the hype about the BIG 5 including Italy. Like Italy is my personal 5th. I do not hate it but thus far I have not seen one that I think will win yet. I prefer Australia and Ukraine because of how risky those songs are and I like when countries have risky entries. Italy is also risky that’s is why it’s pretty high up but I hope they do something different with the staging that is not just him standing and taking a few steps left and right.

I don’t know if I would name it “big”. There is his personal history behind these lyrics (which reflects a lot of people who grew without a father. A father who abandoned him as a child. I think it must be quite painful for a child when you are abandoned… respect for Mahmood for being so personal and also very creative in dealing with it…

I don’t know if Mahmood will be successful at Eurovision since his music so different.. it’s not a typical eurovision song (there are mostly so cheesy and in general you forget them, they don’t leave any trace). Mahmood is an artist, he has a good voice.. and in general he doesn’t need a staging (it’s a pity that a lot of singers at Eurovision hide their musical weakness with staging….or with photographs etc.). He won first of all the Sanremo festival which is a just big success (as a newcomer and also with this kind of music).

I understand what you are saying but it doesn’t change the fact that the number one song is getting 1/3 of the total streams of the number 2 song (which was released earlier) every day. If we were to add up the average streams per from day of release after the contest Soldi would most probably still win.

I really don’t get the hype about Bilal? The song is so dull and self centred, not to mention incredibly cliche.
Italy for the win!
At this point in time, Italia gets my 12 points and I’ll be very surprised if this changes before may.
France entered better on the past with less hype. (Amir, Alma, Madame Monseuir).

I would like people who talk about “clichéd music” to tell me their arguments… It’s a song about the harassment he’s been going through for several years, obviously it’s centered on him. The issue of harassment is not a cliché and is not sufficiently discussed given the damage it causes.

It’s much more original than the love ballads that are held every year at Eurovision.

Darren

Bilal song is incredibly cliche. We hear these lyrics every single year and the song is lyrically almost identical to Conchita in 2014. It’s dated and cliche sorry but that’s my opinion. Of course your free to like it if you wish, but for me, France this year have no positive qualities for me.

Very cool! I like seeing these comparisons but spotify at this stage is, unfortunately, good in giving an indication as to how popular these songs are within their home countries (generally speaking of course).

That said, I do really like Italy’s song and I suspect it will do very well at eurovision, regardless!
