Danish singer-songwriter Tim Schou has accomplished a lot as a solo artist since fronting A Friend In London. As part of the band, he finished in the Top 5 at Eurovision 2011. Since then, he’s bagged an independent solo record deal, released gems like “Novocaine” and “Nirvana” whilst picking up online awards for Best Newcomer.

This week, he’s taking us on a journey back to his childhood by releasing a new music video for his latest single “Acapella” — an autobiographical song about the girl next door who later became Tim’s high school sweetheart, but ended up as the one that got away. His longtime cinematic collaborator Nik Shaw films the music video under the direction of Jordan Nistico.

Speaking to wiwibloggs, Tim explains further:

”Acapella has a special and innocent feel to it. It’s about my old high school crush, whom I was in love with on and off throughout most of my childhood and even into my adult life. I convinced the woman in question to play herself in the video, and getting it all out like this is like saying goodbye to a part of myself. With this song and video, I’m closing a teenage-chapter… in a good way.”

“Acapella” follows this trail with its acoustic guitars and driving clap-based rhythm, mixed and mastered by Lars Norgren (aka Tove Lo).“I’m enjoying the acoustic wave I’m on right now, and I can’t wait to release this little declaration of love to my old high school crush,” Tim elaborates.

Since releasing the EP Face to Face –Live at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, Tim has been touring Europe and hosting sing weekends in villas from Los Angeles to Ibiza. In February, he will join the UK’s hottest trip-hop band Morcheeba on the German leg of their tour.

Acapella is out now on all digital music platforms.

“Acapella” lyrics — Tim Schou

Why does it always come back to you
Wherever I go, whatever I do
I don’t know I don’t know
We built a safe land made just for two
It was a safe hand, it was true
We were so, it was so

I’ve been going back and forth a while with you
I’ve been trying many things and I guess I’ll go back to school

Remember when we sat in the corner
Listening to buffalo soldier
We were so good together now so good together
Want your love back in acapella
We used to be two wild flowers
Skipping class and jumping hours
We were so good together now so good together
Want your love back in acapella

You are the one I keep comparing
To my girlfriends, it’s not fair,
But it’s a thing, it’s my thing
And I’m starting to lose my sight
When you’re not in front of my eyes
I’m f*cked, I think I’m f*cked

I’ve been going back and forth a while with you
I’ve been trying many things and I guess I’ll go back to school
Guess I’ll go back to school

Remember when we sat in the corner
Listening to buffalo soldier
We were so good together now so good together
Want your love back in acapella
We used to be two wild flowers
Skipping class and jumping hours
We were so good together now so good together
Want your love back in acapella

One more thing before I forget I need to get it off my chest
It keeps ringing, in my head, and I kept it a secret
I still have a crush on you

Remember when we sat in the corner
Listening to buffalo soldier
We were so good together now so good together
Want your love back in acapella
We used to be two wild flowers
Skipping class and jumping hours
We were so good together now so good together
Want your love back in acapella

Remember when we sat in the corner
Listening to buffalo soldier
We were so good together now so good together
Want your love back in acapella
We used to be two wild flowers
Skipping class and jumping hours
We were so good together now so good together
Want your love back in acapella

Off-topic: Wiwibloggs is constantly deleting one simple and harmless question in the comment section of the article on Saara Aalto, which is not offensive nor contains inapropriate language. Can you stop that, please?

I remember meeting him and AFiL when he was doing a mini tour in Canada back in early 2011 before he performed at Eurovision. Happy to see he is still pursuing his career in music!
