It’s almost been a week since S!sters won the German selection with their song “Sister”. They did so by overcoming a very strong field consisting of six other singers. The S!sters, who aren’t actually sisters, came out on top against fan favourite Aly Ryan with her song “Wear Your Love” by getting douze points from both the televote and the international jury. But the Eurovision Panel — that is, 100 Eurovision fans whose tastes were determined to match those of Europeans at large — only ranked the duo fifth.
And now, the German Eurovision site esc-kompakt have revealed the points breakdown of the Eurovision Panel, which they obtained from NDR.
It’s the second year that Germany has used this selection system consisting of the televote and the two juries — the international jury made out of music professionals and the Eurovision Panel, which comprises 100 Eurovision fans. They are thought to have predictive power, as this group of fans completed a test to determine their musical tastes, which were thought to tally with past Eurovision results. The 100 fans comprised one third of the overall vote.
The Panel put Aly Ryan on top of their list and placed the ultimate winner S!sters only fifth. Here’s a quick overview of how the Eurovision Panel voted in the German selection including the points of the 100 heads added together:
- Aly Ryan – Wear Your Love (991 points)
- Makeda – The Day I Loved You Most (840 points)
- lilly among clouds – Surprise (789 points)
- Linus Bruhn – Our City (782 points)
- S!sters – Sister (640 points)
- Gregor Hägele – Let Me Go (592 points)
- BB Thomaz – Demons (566 points)
Of the 100 fans, a staggering 44 put Aly Ryan on top. That’s almost the half of the entire panel, y’all! She had a lead of 151 points over second place Makeda. But the German-American singer also earned the lowest points from three of these jurors. It’s also conspicuous that only seven points separated lilly among clouds and Linus Bruhn. Comparing Linus with S!sters, there is a massive difference of 142 points. Talk about a drop-off!
You can see all the individual results of every Eurovision Panel member here (in the name of privacy, they are anonymous).
The televote results will be revealed soon.
S!sters won the German selection with 30 points — 12 points both from the televote and the international jury and six points from the panel. Fan favourite Aly Ryan only came fourth with 25 points. Twelve of those points came from the panel.

There is absolutely no way that the European televiewers will vote for this song. If Black Smoke couldn’t get more votes then this one will never get it… Its sooooo much duller than BS. I guess the only ones who can relate to the song are “sisters” and a well scoring song has to either resonate or be able toeæ entertain all… This one does not.
Okay, I let my thoughts run free now: 6 songs were – as last year – written and produced in a songwriting camp. The artists were selected from 1000 artists. The NDR has really managed to raise the level this year. The S! Sters song was added later, however, because it fell into the hands of the NDR “as if by magic”. Because the lyrics already dictate that it must be sung by two women, they have been looking for professional female singers. It is recognizable that the song has a message, but not what (to end the competition between… Read more »
i think it was rigged. sisters was a disaster – although lilly among my clouds would’ve been my choice, aly deserved this.
I am really interested to know how the wiwijury thinks about the different songs. That’s the pity with this kind of national selections… I will never know.
I still don’t know how S!sters managed to placed first on both jury and televote.
Aly Ryan was my choice too… but we gotta do with the s!sters who are not sisters. Oh well 🙂
Sisters from different misters! Lol
i’ve been missin germany’s signature tackiness for a while, time to send auntie barb
I don’t get the hate towards S!sters. I personally really like this song (2nd behind Ally), but S!sters won BOTH televote and jury – same two components that are in eurovision. That Eurovision panel is interesting concept, but it only shows the opinion of “hardcore fans” and that is minority in comparison of Eurovision televote.
So, just be thankful that we have finally got solid song in this preseason and get over it.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who see’s it like that…
if germany had to qualify, the panel would be helpful, because in the semis the “hardcore fans” have massive weight…
the semi finals are for the fans, the final is for all viewers
I agree, but hardcore fans just don’t want to get over it
No. Eurovision panel is built to reflect the Eurovision televote. There are not just fans there but those people whose taste is close to the european televoting.
Winning the German televote doesn’t mean much in terms of Eurovision because you can’t vote for your own country.
winning the latvian or romanian televote doesn’t mean anything either when ot comes to Eurovision…
they can’t vote for themselves either… so that’s not a valid point…
if the panel is so important give dem 50% of the votes and get rid of the Jury…. with only a third of the voting power the chance to end up with a mediocre entry is just to high…
i think germany should get rid of the panel in the final and just use it for the selection process… there is no panel at eurovision… and to be honest, we the hardcore fans are the minority when it comes to the actual contest… lifestyle vs event…
btw: i never thought michael schulte would do so well last year… so what do i know 😉
The panel is very important. The German televote-audience has a terrible taste (Levina, Cascada, Ann-Sopie, Jamie-Lee). This must be balanced by people who represent European tastes. ?
I’ve voted like mad for her… I really don’t get how S!sters could win the televoting… well, it’s a decision to be respected… but I have a strong feeling that my home country will be back to where we’ve been before Michael Schulte… I strongly dislike our selected entry…
Aly was too much.
I’m sure Sisters will do well with the European public in May. I’m an ESC fan and still I love it !
Wear your Love was a great song but I kinda feel it the typical song that flops in the grand final. The “wow factor” is more impactful with sisters than with wear you love, imo.
Do not worry, Germany will be back at the bottom of the scoreboard this year, justice will be made for Aly!
What did I say before the NF took place? I do not need to win I just want an Act I can support. Now I didn’t even get that.. 🙁 S!sters were the least I wanted to go to TelAviv
Hands down the best song/performance. She was amazing and I honestly don‘t get how the couldn‘t choose her smh
Right? And even for those people who say that she did not have the best voice or the optimal staging that night, there is still so much time until the final to improve. I wish people would have seen the potential that Aly Ryan had that night.
Honestly, S!sters were great, they are currently my 1st place
I feel like Aly was just going for the cool performance, like Russia 2016
It wasn’t a bad song, but it wasn’t the best
S!STERS waren toll und werden sich gut plazieren. Nörgler gibts immer zu Genüge.
She should’ve won tho…At least the Eurovision Panel had taste
Honesty I am more a Lilly fan?
44 people out of 100 with a likely bias towards empty-shell, cookie-cutter “Eurovision style” “bops” preferred just another generic American-sounding tune. Several thousand German televoters opted for the eventual winners. Get over it 😉
Aly go home.
I think in the last two years, the German jury and televoters have gone for the act that was the most polished and looked ready for the Eurovision stage. I guess it shows a lack of imagination when they have had better songs that needed more work.
I feel like the song has limited replayablity. I’ve listened to the songs for days when it was released but now I’m bored of it already.
Forgot about that song already don’t things move fast in the eurovision world this time of year, plus a lot of eurovision fans are bit to fast to jump on the bandwagon for any old trashy dance pop number, I get it we all want something with a bit of oomph but fundamentally it still needs to be a decent song and aly Ryan’s song was kinda rubbish.
So true. I like Maruv and Hatari, but Aly was just cheap.
“Wear Your Love” is a really good club song but the staging felt a bit lost, I can see why the international juries and televote didn’t go for it but Makeda was still robbed imo! I didn’t mind Sisters, although I may sound naive for saying but I think performing last in the order linda gave em the edge, will NDR release the televote figures?
says a lot about how sisters will be met by foreign eurovision watchers…..
probably with open arms, saying that eurovision fans and the rest of europe seem to often have completely different opinions, as not only this national final season has proved, but almost every national final season and eurovision!
lmao as if this dated song will be above bottom 5
How on Earth that dull song won the televote?
At least this panel had taste.
The Eurovision Panel had taste!
At least there are 44 persons with taste in Germany…
