The National Selection season of Eurovision 2019 has had more than its fair share of drama already. So you can imagine how happy it made everyone here at Wiwibloggs to watch LUME‘s video diary accounting their experience at O melodie pentru Europa. Even though things didn’t go to plan — and they were axed from the process — they’ve picked themselves up, had a laugh at the situation, and put a smile on our faces in the process.
The video tells the story of why they decided to send a song to the Moldovan selection (who wouldn’t want a free holiday to Tel Aviv?), their budget restrictions which meant they couldn’t quite get Philipp Kirkorov on board, and their travels across Chisinau to the first stage of the O melodie pentru Europa selection on February 2nd.

The Wiwibloggs duo couldn’t quite believe LUME didn’t make it to the final, much like the rest of the Internet who couldn’t get enough of the track “Ca Adriano Celentano”. Though they might not have the ticket to Tel Aviv, LUME are still smiling. They’re fully booked for birthday parties and weddings until 2020, y’all!
Jokes aside, this video captures the real Eurovision spirit that seems to have been forgotten over the past week. LUME have wonderful showmanship and they aren’t afraid to laugh at themselves or acknowledge when things could have gone better. Let’s hope this positive attitude will keep them motivated to send another song next year, so we may finally see them in the O melodie pentru Europa final, and perhaps on the Eurovision stage. Chisinau 2021?

Russia won only thanks to the diaspora voting, it wasnt fair. Thats why EBU brought the juries back to the contest in 2009.
I’ve got nowhere else to share this, but here is, in my opinion, every Eurovision winner from best to worst. People will disagree with me, but whatever. Just felt like sharing (the Toto Cutugno mention got me thinking). 1. Norway 1995 – Nocturne (10/10: My favorite Eurovision song, ground-breaking and unique. Never been replicated.) 2. 11. Sweden 2012 – Euphoria (10/10: While I may not be as huge a stan of this song as other fans, lord knows I understand why it won as handily as it did.) 12. Sweden 2015 – Heroes (10/10: Still one of the high water marks for Eurovision staging. 21. Netherlands 1957 – Net als toen (10/10: I’m a little surprised it’s this high as well, but something about it is so pretty and nostalgic that I keep coming back to it.) 22. Switzerland 1988 – Ne partez pas sans moi (10/10: Weird outfit and bizarrely close finish aside, this is the kind of song that Eurofans will remember for ages to come, regardless of its performer’s subsequent rise in stature. 31. Switzerland 1956 – Refrain (9/10: The first winner ever. Still a simple, nostalgic song. I like old music, especially old jazz ballads, so I vibe with it.) 32. Greece 2005 – My Number One (9/10: Just a spectacular performance at its center. Greece and Cyprus have tried to recapture that lightning in a bottle many times over, but this is still as good as it gets.) 33. 41. Norway 1985 – La dette swinge (8/10: Very cheesy, but Bobbysocks are so charming and the song’s role in ending Norway’s notorious losing streak make me a fan.) 42. Ireland 1992 – Why Me? Somehow the last two posts disappeared. So…maybe I’ll get to the rest again? Maybe? All I’ll say is the songs don’t dip below 7/10 until #52 or so and Believe is last.
They need to pick some other random Italian 80s heroes. What about Ca Toto Cotugno? 🙂
