He was the last act to take to this year’s Melodifestivalen stage. But in the latest countdown of Sweden’s top 100 singlesJohn Lundvik is most definitely first in the Mello race.

After spending much of the week atop the Spotify daily streaming chart, John debuts at #3 with “Too Late For Love”. Only local artist Einár and the Oscar-winning behemoth “Shallow” stand between him and the top spot. It’s a career high for Lundvik, with last year’s “My Turn” peaking at #10.

Three more Melfest entries join John inside the top ten. The highest is Bishara with “On My Own” at #6. Right behind them is LIAMOO & Hanna Ferm with “Hold You” at #7. Surprisingly, they’re joined by Dolly Style at #8. Despite being eliminated in semi-final 3, “Habibi” has now become the brand’s most successful single to date.

There are four more acts in the top 20, including two more non-qualifiers. They are the O&O of FO&O. Omar Rudberg with “Om om och om igen” is at #11 and Oscar Enstead with “I Love It” at #16. The two others are finalists Mohombi with “Hello” at #15 and Wiktoria with “Not With Me” at #20.

Six more entries have cracked the top 40 —  Jon Henrik Fjällgren’s “Norrsken”, Malou Prytz’ “I Do Me”, Anna Bergendahl’s “Ashes to Ashes”, Lisa Ajax’s “Torn”, Zeana & Anis don Demina’s “Mina bränder” and Arvingarna’s “I Do”.

Margaret’s “Tempo” sneaks into the top 50 at #48. The lower half of the chart sees appearances from Vlad Reiser, Rebecka Karlsson, Nano, Lina Hedlund, Andreas Johnson, Martin Stenmarck.

John Lundvik is the best candidate to win ESC2019, if Sergey doesn’t deliver.

People complained here about this year’s Melodifest but I think the final is packed with fun and/or memorable songs. Of all the potential MF winners, I think there are only three that have a really good shot at winning ESC 2019: John Lundvik, Mohombi, and Wiktoria. That said, I think all of them would need to Dami it up a bit more on the Eurovision stage though. The other favourites, like Hanna&Liamoo, Bishara, JHF, are all good in their own way, but I don’t see them getting enough support across ESC juries and the televote. I could see John, Mohombi,… Read more »

On a slightly different note, is Mohombi’s song the only one that isn’t released outside of Sweden? I have all 27 of the other melo songs available on Spotify except for his (I’m based in Canada).

This is my favourite MF song this year. It’s definitely grown on me since I first heard it. Ordinarily I wouldn’t think this would do well at Eurovision, but I haven’t heard an obvious winner of Eurovision in the songs so far this year, so think it’s going to be an open field where this might fair well.

I think Mohombi should win, it’s clearly the best song in the bunch!

It could become an international BOP

So catchy!

Lundvik’s song is not bad, but I am not really into gospel, sorrynotsorry

Best from Spain

Sorry but it would have no option in Tel Aviv, especially compared to Too Late For Love

Why do so many people watch Dolly Style’s video and download their song they did not vote for them?

Dolly Style’s fans are mostly kids in the kindergarten and lower elementary school age and i doubt they could vote but that’s also the youtube generation so I guess that explains why they’re the only melfest act to crack 1 million views this year.

Mohombi to win jury, John to win televote, John overall winner.

John to win jury. Wiktoria to win televote. John overall winner.

That seems equally plausible, actually.

Or John wins both. Which is just as plausible.
Mohombi will be like 5th or 6th

You could be right. I mean Måns Zelmerlöw won both jury vote and tele vote 2015. One thing that he has in common with Måns is, that both of them were song number 28.

All things considered, i think this heads winner is relatively clear in comparison to last year. Lundvik has a decent song and should perform much better in the popular vote than poor Benjamin last year.
If it is Lundvik, then classic Melo where an entry I like goes to Eurovision (ex: 2015 with Mans was a yay from me, 2016 with Frans was meh, 2017 with Robin I liked, 2018 with Benjamin was meh, so let’s hope 2019 is a yay from me!)

John has the edge to win Melfest. But I still think this is a 3 horse race based on Streaming/Youtube and he’s not that ahead of Hanna/Liamoo and Bishara.
Also Juries might spoil as usual. Specially if it’s a close race.
But It feels this is John to lose atm.
Also remember Benji was 4th on the chart last year behind Felix, S&V and Mendez.
Or Wiktoria was leading in 2017 ahead of Nano in another close race.
Charts don’t mean everything.

Also Frans remains as the only Melfest act to debut at #1 with “If I were sorry”

Well, back in the naughties almost every winner debuted at 1. La Voix was the first one that didn’t.

I meant recent history or Spotify era. Debuting #1 with only 5 days is not easy.
Yes La Voix failed.
Also Take Me To Your Heaven never was #1 in Sweden I think. Then she did it with Hero though

Yes Luk we have radio friendly song, you know why? We want to hear them on radio, we want to have the songs on our playlists while we go to gym or just relax. We want our mello songs to be relevant in our lives not just be forgotten after a few days. You complain about how predicable or whatever, but news flash, swedes loves their music therefore having a song that goes out to more people is important, we don’t only think about mello and ESC we think of enjoying the music aswell, it is part of our culture,… Read more »

Oh so true! Just look at Omar. He’s 11th and didn’t even make it to AC. I like “Om och om igen” alot. Many times you don’t have to win Mello or qualify to get a hit. Loreen lost in AC 2011 with “My heart is refusing me” but became one of the most played songs of Melodifestivalen that year. There is a demand for the songs anyway. And that shows how strong Mello still is. No matter what the picky fans say.
