After Finland confirmed their Eurovision 2019 song on Saturday, Darude’s predecessor Saara Aalto gave the country something else to celebrate. On Sunday she made another final of her own after surviving the semi-final of Dancing on Ice. Congrats!
With a place in the final at stake, the final Judges’ Challenge was the solo skate. The more ambitious the routine, the bigger the chance the celebrities could impress the Ice Panel.
Saara’s first routine saw her tackle a Dancing on Ice classic — the headbanger. Jason and Christopher both awarded a 9 with an 8.5 from Ashley and Jayne, giving a total score of 35.0.
First routine scores
- James Jordan and Alexandra Schauman – 40.0
- Wes Nelson and Vanessa Bauer – 37.5
- Saara Aalto and Hamish Gaman – 35.0
- Brian McFadden and Alex Murphy – 33.5
After the celebrities performed their first routines, lines were then open for the voting public to make their minds up.
Then things got personal: for the celebrities’ second routines, they had to skate to a song that meant something special to them.
For Saara, it was the Idina Menzel single “Defying Gravity” from the musical Wicked — which reflected her difficult childhood. And her routine impressed the Ice Panel, who all gave her a 9.5 — her highest score of the series.
Second routine scores
- James Jordan and Alexandra Schauman – 40.0
- Saara Aalto and Hamish Gaman – 38.0
- Brian McFadden and Alex Murphy – 36.5
- Wes Nelson and Vanessa Bauer – 36.0
After all the votes have been counted and verified, Saara ended up in the skate-off with former Westlife singer Brian McFadden. Fortunately after both skate-off performances, Jason, Ashley and Christopher chose to save Saara. Jayne — with the casting vote in the event of a tie — would’ve made it a clean sweep.

Can Saara win the whole competition? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
I want Saara to win, but Wes has a lot of fans who will vote for him if it is left to the public vote.
James is very good , but surely being a dancer he has an advantage with his style and choreography skills.
Yessssss! So happy! 😀
I tell you what, all today, I was just dying wondering if Saara Aalto made the ice skating final. Thank goodness.
No wonder she was ranked second in the second routine scores, right?
i am so sure she will come second again, there is something about her that makes her likeable, but at the same time not enough to become a superstar
She’s a superstar in my book
Guess she’ll be 2nd again
Watch her end up second
Off topic but Nevena just won in Serbia with Kruna <3
