¡La venda ya cayó! Spain’s Eurovision 2019 blindfold has dropped. And it’s revealed not only a revamp, but also the official music video for Miki’s “La Venda”.
After a week of teasers and anticipation, we can now enjoy “La venda” in all its revamped glory. The energy remains, as do the trumpets. However, this new version sounds a little more pop and a little less brass band.
The bridge, in particular, has been enhanced. Like the beginning, it feels much more like a party anthem. However, the new ending is a bit more abrupt.
This, according to RTVE, will make it feel more mainstream and appeal to a wider audience.
Regardless of what the TV execs say, we all know the real reason why Spain’s entry carries so much appeal — Miki. He’s now more central to the song and his vocals rise above the musical base.
Miki “La Venda” revamp (Official Music Video)
The clip itself is pretty much a huge fiesta and has us thirsting for sangría. Spain’s entry is a happiness boost and the video reflects that.
Also, have you noticed the choreography? “La venda” apparently has its own move now! Will it feature in the Tel Aviv staging?
Miki in Tel Aviv
While RTVE were teasing the entry, Miki took a flight to Tel Aviv to film his postcard. It includes a lot of his favourite sport — football!
Miki’s Israeli schedule was exhausting. He had to endure a hard chreography session and film it for his postcard. On Tuesday night, he told Twitter that he was having a hectic day. On Wednesday he would need to wake up at 03.15 in the morning!
Estoy petado.

I knew that there was that rumba-ska feeling from “La Pegatina”. I recognized immediately their style… then I look at the lyrics, ok, written by “Adrià Salas”. La Pegatina. Great band, happy that they gave such a good chance to perform a happy song to Miki.
Kinda predictable video. Lots of people dancing and jumping.
so blue collar
I don’t get all the drama. Like some people say Essentially “La Venda” remains the same with a few tweaks here a there and a total polished and revised production. It does sound like a competitive entry. With some exception… if you liked it, you like it; if not you don’t like it. Simple. About the song itself: 1. The intro is so good, very appealing for a contest. Party anthem. 2. The instrumental in the verses is the part that has most changed here, less “verbena” more guitar. Maybe a little more poppy. But the party essence is still… Read more »
Another suicidal spanish revamp. They just buried him right behind Barei and Almaya. Absolutely lifeless sleepy version no way I’ll vote for. Luca will get a better result than this crippled La Venda. That was the last time I was rooting for Spain.
The song talks about the Catalan independence, and how la venda cayo after all the bad things spain did to Catalonia.
Old version is so much better.
Somehow, between the lines I hear Independant Catalonia…
I love the song..outstanding fun and good vibes
What did they change exactly? The live version sounds way better.
Is an a song that improves in live….
awful then, awful now
Like Spain this year in my top 3 .well done Spain
This song makes me so happy. And Miki is cute as a button. Top 10!
Love this from the start and still stays in my top 5, well done!
Such a terrible song! I rather REPLAY TAMTA ALL DAY LONG!!! WINNER INCOMIIIING
I’ll skip
It’s basically the same… They just did a video, i wouldn’t call it a “revamp”.
So far it’s 6th in my ranking.
It’s completely different!
Love the live version, love the studio version. One of my absolute favourites this year.
Great revamp with a very good production. It’s easier on the ears. I wasn’t really into the NF version. Can’t wait to see it live with Miki’s energy!
I prefer the ‘old’ version of that song.

I still think it sounds very similar to the previous version… I really don’t get the disappointment LOL. Maybe my ear is not so exquisite, really it sounds like the same song to me, just a bit more polished. BTW, isn’t Miki the cutest?? 😛
Woah I really adore this revamp!!!! Sure it’s a little more pop-y now but I don’t mind! It’s still upbeat and fun and made that bridge 10 times more awesome! Still in my top 5. Shocks me that I adore a Spain song so much omg (usually I dislike them haha).
This is really bad compared to the live version (which is my #2 so far). But then again, Fuego also sounded terrible on the studio version and became quite magnificent live, so there’s still hope.
Fuego terrible on the studio version?!?!? Come on man hahahaha
Well, I really didn’t like it, it sounded way too generic. And others were with me, including some Wiwibloggs staff on twitter iirc, but I don’t remember who exactly. What elevated that song for me was the bombastic live performance. Obviously though, feel free to disagree.
They’ve turned into a pop song. But its appeal was that it felt brass band and little off the beaten track. The song has lost a lot of its appeal for me. Really annoyed about this.
Greece or Spain out this day? Yeah, I’ll take Greece please.
But kudos to Spain on serving “FIFA World Cup” realness.
This has been growing on me. Might actually sneak into TOP10.
Wow, I’m gladly surprised!
I totally forgot about La Venda, but I think it’s actually great now. You can listen to a proper produced song! Haha
I still find Miki a little bit awkward in the video, tho.
Hope they can manage to create a good staging for the song. Miki look enthusiastic in all the interviews and on social media, so there is hope.
I feel like this is the type of song that sounds better live than the studio version.
Obviously in a contest where you sing live, that’s gonna help him.
I could see him placing somewhere in the teens- which is better than what Spain’s been getting the past couple years
Wow, so much better and I like how polished it sounds now. I think it went up a couple of places in my personal ranking after the revamp. Well done Spain!
Let´s back to the old version. Old version = Top 10.
New version: Bottom.

People saying Cyprus has the bop of the year need to come back to this. The production has gotten much tighter and still has a lot of energy. The raw energy and joy of the initial performance was great, but you’ve gotta get tighter for the contest itself, and Spain have obviously put thought into making it look and sound as professional as possible. And while I was initially confused as to how Fokas Evangelios would work with something significantly less intense than, say, You Are the Only One, his work shines through here and I can see what he’s… Read more »
More than anything, I feel like they should basically do what I’ve seen in the OT performance and the video: leave the tighter choreography to the backing dancers and let Miki jump around and work up the crowd. Dude is a charmer.
The thing is, we truly don’t know what the juries’ll like. The last two times Spain made the top ten were with no help from the juries, who in fact kept Spain from finishing higher (the televote put “Quedate conmigo” fifth. The juries put it EIGHTEENTH). The juries like tight, carefully-concocted bops, or really unique ones (that’s why they’d like, say, “Dance You Off” more than “Fuego”). The televote just likes a good, strong bop, less so bops that are more focused on tight production and staging (which is why the televote vastly preferred “Fuego” – and, similarly, “Lie to… Read more »
In other words, it seems they’re making changes that won’t change their chances with the televote (when Miki sets the fiesta mode on the stage, nobody will remember if they liked the original better), but can make the juries feel more welcoming to it. Of course, RTVE can always ruin it again, but their first moves with the entry are positive.
I mean, I’m just thinking back to the last four entries, and it’s not too hard for me to see why they tanked, even with good aspects about them. For three out of four, the basic problem was just that they were perfectly pleasant songs, but very forgettable when compared to everything else (“Do It for Your Lover” would’ve just been a pleasantly forgettable bop but then we got hit with the Bum Note Heard ‘Round the World and all bets were off) and not helped by lackluster staging. Heck, even “Quedate conmigo” and “Dancing in the Rain” probably didn’t… Read more »
(Also, in hindsight, “Say Yay!” being in English was a BIG mistake. It was a perfectly enjoyable song, but it didn’t have anything special – and no, I’m not counting the stupid dance – to stick in people’s minds. If it had at least been in another language, people might remember something different about it, but it being in English made it just another bop. France knew how to balance everything out and sent their best entry in years.)
Why the downvotes? I didn’t even call most of the songs bad! (You’re not gonna get me to defend “Do It for Your Lover” though. Not me. No sir.)
I call a Spanish song my favorite of the year so far – over bigger fan faves like Iceland or Italy or Portugal – and I still get downvoted. Life’s not fair.
I thought both Edurne and Almaia could do better than they did. But 2015 was a strong year (and they may overdid some things) and last year Spain got overshadowed by Lithuania and Ireland. On the other hand, few times I’ve seen an entry with more last place vibes than “Do It for Your Lover”.
It’s growing on me, but also I think because this is such a weak year full of totally forgettable songs. So this will really stand out more. And I am saying this as a huge Eurovision fan who thinks the contest has gotten better and better each year for the past 10 years, but this year it’s taken a step backwards I’m afraid. Oh and he’s pretty easy on the eye too, so that helps!
I don’t get why some people feel bad about this revamp. It always bothered me how cheap was the production on the original studio version (by the way, the same could be said about all the Spanish competing songs back then). Now we can hear the instruments, they don’t sound like they’re compressed at the same audio track anymore. Also, this song has breaks and they used the drums to make them pop. I guess we could discuss if the bridge got overproduced, but I loved the spanish guitar and the drums on it.
I love this song since OT. And it’s one of my favorites to this day, but I do feel like this revamp is missing that fire, that “drive” and energy that original version had. However, still loving it, but I think I’ll keep my original download.
If RTVE doesn’t ruin it (as usual…), this has top 10 potential. Maybe in a different year this would have problems to shine, but this year seems especially good to this kind of “positive” songs.
The song was amazing, but this…
Idk, I don’t like 🙁
Got no problem with the revamp. Still, this goes as far as the live performance will take it. Going to be a challenge of getting that energy from the smaller arena matched by the ESC arena.
I actually like this revamp! It sounds a lot more modern. It feels like some energy was lost, but I’m sure he will regain that live! I just liked the previous ending a bit more.
Meh.
It’s very cute, fun and unpretentious. Glad we have this song in the line-up. 🙂
The author said the revamp is destined to be sung live in a stadium; just wait to see it live + the ESC atmosphere and staging! :B
Wow! What a fantastic bridge in “lo que ere”. Very exclusive style this year in Spain. Congratulations Miki! <3
Hope it sounds better live… 🙁
I LOVE IT!!! La venda ya cayo!!! We need songs like this in a somewhat dire year.
The production is less caothic (which some people will relate with energy loss) and the bridge is simply outstanding. The main point here is Miki, his charisma and happiness makes the song even better.
Hope at least a top15 for Spain this year.
I really this Song. TOP 10

THE BRIDGE IS GIVING ME LIFE YAAAAAAAAAAAAAS
Sorry, I liked more old version. I don’t feel energy and atmosphere. Who knows, maybe in live this version would be better.
LOOOOOOOVE IIIIIT ????? LA VENDA YA CAYOOOOOOOOO OOOH, LO QUE ERE, LO QUE ERERE ERE E…… GO MIKI ????
Probably the worst eurovision revamp since Albania 2016. A shame cuz this was in my top 10 :/ I wanna cry 🙁
