It’s been a busy couple of days with seemingly endless song releases. And chief among them was “Scream” — the highly-anticipated track from Russia’s Sergey Lazarev. It dropped one hour before the writing of this post. Now the bookmakers have reacted by slashing odds on The Netherlands to put the Dutchies at the top of the oddstable. It’s close and things are very fluid, but for now it seems like Duncan is on top with the pundits.
As more and more countries reveal their entries for Tel Aviv, the odds are constantly changing. Yesterday, Russia was in the lead with the Netherlands and Switzerland making huge gains following their song release. While some countries live up to their expectations, others fare worse with the bookmakers.
Odds to win Eurovision 2019 (9 March @17:00 GMT)
The Netherlands new favourite to win
With the release of Russia’s entry “Scream” things are now shaking at the top. Russia is no longer in pole position. Instead, the Netherlands have taken the lead. With odds currently as low as 2/1, they’re now ahead of Russia, which has odds as low as 5/2. Elsewhere, Sweden remains in third position with odds as low as 6/1, Italy (10/1) and Cyprus (10/1) completing the top five.
Another significant grower is Switzerland. Luca Hänni’s “She Got Me” entered the top ten following its release on Thursday. It’s in sixth position at 12/1.

The director of his music video, Konstantin Cherepkov, promises something ambitious and with a defined narrative. Speaking to wiwibloggs, he explained the complex story behind the music video. “The story of the video clip was inspired by the fears we all carry from childhood, and which as we grow up become ‘screams’,” he says. “The young boy symbolises our hero Sergey, while the island symbolises the end point of a journey we should all take in order to overcome our fears. The strong melody, the powerful lyrics and the amazing performance of Sergey inspired me to create this unique dark video clip with a strong message to everyone.” _______________________ @lazarevsergey #eurovisionsongcontest #eurovision #daretodream #eurovision2019 #lazarevsergey #sergeylazarev
The hype for Russia’s song release was huge.
Following the announcement that Sergey Lazarev will make his return to the Eurovision stage, rumours about his song flooded the Internet.
And the bookmakers were also confident that he’d be in charge of the title. While he’s still in contention, it’s definitely not a given.
The odds keep changing as we speak. So with tonight’s national final in Sweden, we might see another big reaction with the bookmakers. And while being the favorite to win is certainly a great feather in one’s bonnet, nothing is guaranteed at Eurovision — remember what happened with Italy’s Francesco Gabbani in 2017.
What do you think of the changes with the betting odds? Does Russia still have a chance to win? Or are the Netherlands more likely to take it home? Let us know in the comments below.
The Netherlands arcade the best ESC song ever !!!
Vote for different and modern, vote Conan Osiris!
Dark Horse will be Azerbaijan
My personal top:
Russia, Sweden, Cyprus and Switzerland are mediocre this year. Not bad, but not good either.
Good top, very good. But different for me.
5. The Nederlans
Azerbaijan, Dark Horse?… perhaps
I think so, Azerbaijan will be Dark Horse
Very similar to my Top 5. Just trade Norway with another Nordic country, Iceland.
Greece, Denmark, and Belgium are also not that bad.
There are three songs that make the difference in this year’s Eurovision: Italy – great story and Mahmood a great storytelling. I believe every word he is singing, his drama becomes mine. Just the very first beats are enough to signal that a great song is following – a quality that I only recognise in the Swiss and Slovenian song. Italy’s song has this wholeness that Netherlands song somehow is lacking. Switzerland – perfect composition and show – better than fuego, better than tons of radio songs. It takes you within a second to the dancefloor. Light and perfect as… Read more »
I think Russia is trying to win the juries this time as they will likely be in top 2 with televoters.
Netherlands might be the jury winner though if he pulls the live performance.
Switzerland will be the Czech Republic of 2019.
Iceland is another contender for massive success in televoting.
Portugal will flop, mark my words.
Portugal can come last – who cares? I’ve won my Eurovision this year just for having discovered Conan Osíris and his discography. Out of Eurovision league.
Guys, I think this year will be especially interesting, because the staging and live performance is going to make some songs, and break others. Prepare for some very dark horses to emerge, like Austria last year.
Having said that, my favourites this year are;
Belarus (which doesn’t seem to be on the radar much but it’s a great dance bop)
Guys, is it legal to bet for a TV show in your countries? In Spain it is only allowed for sports…
Portugal, Iceland and Italy should be top 3 (in no special order) for uniqueness and originality.
Portugal :O top^
Now that I hear this…. Much better with the revamp! I think I will appreciate a fresh party entry among so many (good) ballads this year
Sorry Europe but I don’t understand you, The Netherland’s song is very banal, and soporific, sooooo boring, I know you will hate me because apparently there is a very huge fanbase behind it. But I have to say that is a song that we can hear every day on radio. There is nothing special and the more it is in english !!! Come on wake up we have this type of song every year and it is never a success so why this song this year ? Ok I understand if it is in a “special language” (like Sobral in… Read more »
Sorry Benjamin K but the neutral Eurovision fan base don’t understand you .
This song is so pure and and comes straight from the heart.
I think this is the winning song’.
Hi Benjamin K. I agree with you, regarding the song of Netherland. It makes a good first impression, but it is lacking smthing. For me there are in the eurovision song that are masterfully done and even may overcome the eurovision boundaries and become international success. There are three songs that make the difference in this years Eurovision: Italy – great story and Mahmood a great storytelling. I believe every word he is singing, his drama becomes mine. Just the very first beats are enough to signal that a great song is following – a quality that I only recognise… Read more »
I agree with you. It’s a good, decent song, but not winning in my opinion. It doesn’t stand out so much. Slovenia, Portugal and Italy are a lot more original in my opinion.
Netherlands 2019 = Italy 2017
I don’t like it.
Completely different songs and performances.
Italy had a ridiculous old fashioned performance. It wasnt going to win juries.
Netherlands can pull a Portugal 2017 victory.
Where are the “Netherlands” fans who are bashing and judging here? I don’t see them, i see a lot other people from other countries who are doing that….. Just saying.
Spanish entry is as childish as the downvoters of this comment section…
I just heard Israel song….OMG…….Israel is taking double….prepare to cry hard…the contest can be closed(:
i never asked your permission to write a comment and for sure not going to start so shut up
I don’t know about the Netherlands, it’s a good composition and it has that good kind of minimalism and simplicity to it, but it feels so sterile and it is sung with no emotion, robotically. But mayble it wil grow on me. For now i prefer over the top emotion and epicnessof the russian entry, what can I say, I like drama in a song 🙂
For you maybe it’s emotionless, but I (personaly) can hear the emotion in his voice. One of my favorites with Italy and Belgium.
its funny how when you declare on someone that he is the best, everyone are protecting thier own country and down vote you,,haha clowns…Kobi is the best…3..2..1…start down voting(: haha
The downvote culture in this comments section is hilarious, I love it
The Netherlands song is masterpiece ! Best song this year and the best artist !!!! ????????
Every year one of the big favorites usually flops. I wonder who’s gonna be this year!
honourable mention to UKRAINE
all the rest is boring, unoriginal and gladly forgettable
I agree on Portugal and Italy, but Iceland is the same noise my radio does when there’s interference.
all these male ballads will cancel each other out. same as 2008 when all the female bops placed in the top 5 but the winner was a slower male song. so we better watch out for switzerland
Oh no please!
Five at the top: Norway, Italy, the Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland
Five at the bottom: France, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Spain
Top ; Netherlands, Norway, Iceland, France, Switzerland.
Buttom; Italy, Montenegro, Latvia, Poland and Georgia
But the Miki-song is an empty shell of nothing!
As many others…. but in local language, fresh and fun oh yeaaah
Honestly, Sergey’s entry back in 2016 did nothing for me. It felt like Russia pulled out expensive staging to cover a tooth-achingly generic pop song knowing it would make the masses’ eyes glaze over (my opinion). Therefore I really wasn’t expecting much when I saw Sergey would return this year. But when I heard the song it immediately jumped towards my top spot, alongside Italy (itself a very current number which unfolds with style and grace). That’s the thing though, a song like this to follow ‘You are the only one’ suddenly threw a spanner into the mix. In my… Read more »
Well said about the Netherlands – it really feels like something you’ve heard a few times on a radio . I would also be very happy with Italy or Russia winning, and I like Azerbaijan and Romania a lot (her vocals are so cool and she is very good and charismatic live)
Guys listen to the comparison of Duncan’s and Adele’s songs
Wow, what a Discovery….. NOT! I’m a musician for many years and most melodic lines are used before only the atmosphere and performance of songs differ. So don’t waste your time just enjoy this truly remarkable song.
Here we go again….People need to check their hearing.
Russia comes back strong after last year’s miss. The song is powerful with sergeys voice to it. The sound is great aswell and all the instruments blend in well to the song. He sings with emotion. A good and needed change of paste towards the end keeps it from feeling too repetitive. Knowing Sergey’s live staging/performance last time its safe to bet this time it will be just as entertaining and lift the song even greater. Staging/Camera work is key here if he wants a chance of going all the way to 1. Top 10 either way for sure.
The real King is coming tommorow and his name is kobi marimi…guys, it’s even not a fair contest(:
Take a small taste from him before the song released tommorow..https://youtu.be/9ZKNVirQ3Ls
“He has a very emotive voice, with great refined power verses a sensitive voice break.”
In other words: Yes, he sings well. 🙂
Only kobi sings like kobi that’s why he is the best this year…the coin will fall soon…
Look, you have decided that Kobi is the best in the world, no one else sings like him and his song is the best. We get it loud and clear. Just stop being annoying.
I’m not telling you what to write so shut up and don’t tell me what to do please…kobi is the best unfortunately after hearing all singers…yeah…that’s life…soon you will understand it as well..Sergey will not win cause he is not good enough kapish Anna?
And when did I ever say that Sergey will win?
It it wasn’t Sergey article and your name was not Anna I would think otherwise…at least I day straight forward what I think
can you like, PLEASE stop commenting this on every article repeatedly? We’ve all seen it by now and its obnoxious.
And you..shut up too..no one asked you
Somehow I don’t like Kobi anymore… just because of your annoying comments everywhere?!
Sweden will overshadow Azerbaijan.
Cyprus will overshadow Switzerland.
Greece will overshadow Belgium.
The Netherlands will overshadow Russia.
“Sweden will overshadow Azerbaijan” lol no
“Greece will overshadow Belgium” lol no
I think Switzerland will overshadow Cyprus. Male ethnic dance songs are not common in Eurovision. But I still don’t like those two. So generic.
It has been 44 years since Netherlands last victory (2nd longest waiting for next victory after Spain) , seize the chance Duncan, you need to win this year Eurovision contest! Your “Arcade” is a great masterpiece!
Yeah, so sad. And some countries didn’t even win once so stop asking for pity points.
What bothers me with some of the comments here is that there are personal attacks against the artist simply because they don’t like their song. Like I understand if you’re not a fan of, for example, The Netherlands and don’t but into that hype but why then start going on to say “he’s not even that good looking”, “he can’t song”, all he has going for him is his butt”. Seriously? Grow up, understand that there are different tastes, and move on.
I don’t think “he can’t sing” is a valid argument against The Netherlands (he can, as far as I know him), but that’s certainly something to consider when judging a performance. There are some people in the contest whose vocals have been questionable.
So glad to see Slovenia rising in the odds as well! They’ve gone from below 20 to 13 at the moment just from today. Good to see it’s getting appreciation as I think it’s a pretty great entry from them this year
Anyway, this year’s Dark Horse will show up in the betting odds between Saturday, May 11th and Thursday, 16th May.
The song has to go out of the top10 odds. It doesn’t deliver they cannot see it?
Mario are you Italian?
No i am not. And i am not crazy about the italian song
The song is not People expected from Sergey. If we didnt know Sergey or they didnt create expectations and release the song earlier the song was a clear favorite. It is a really great and powerful song which can have amaizing staging unlike the Netherlands one where staging will be the guy singing in the middle. For me rn winner seems like Swiss entry with Sergey being close second
No…kobi is dope…he brings emotions no one can with all the respect and I do respect. Portugal is the most artistic entry by far but not all people can understand it, you need some sense what is art. Italy brings emotions much more than Russia or netharlands and I believe kobi will bring the most but will see tommorow
Btw Israel will not win again even if Elvis Presley will come back from the dead and represent them so it’s really what I think about kobi
Israel haha? They dont even have a song out yet
Tommorow they will, I know the singer…it’s going to be very strong entry..you will hear tommorow
I’ve just heard it. You’re right, Israel will not be winning again.
My top 5
Nice top but Croatia?????
Thank you. I’m fan of diversity. And each song from my top 5 are different, although that wasn’t criteria. Regardless Croatian song-thier singer has most amazing voice. The kid has 18 years and outstanding vocal skills. Of all “olddated” epic ballad this have the most potentials with revamp and great staging. Its my credit to Croatian entry for May. Hope they will proved I’m not wrong.
Croatians are doing a revamp! Roko said in in an interview. Also, his team said that the staging will be “on steroids”.
This is my top3: Italy-Portugal-Azerbaijan
Omg only one winner Sweden , 2nd Lithuania and 3rd Czech Republic
Unless Armenia comes up with a super-song, this year’s winner is gonna be decided between The Netherlands and Sweden. I put my money on Sweden…
Crucify me for this if you want, but I don’t really understand the hype around the Dutch and Russian songs. Neither one is in my top 10 tbh.
Boring both.. plus we didn’t see the staging yet and if I guess from the last years the Netherlands will have nothing special on stage.
The Netherlands may have a decent song, but I really can’t see it winning, and if it does then it won’t be a rightful winner. Italy and Greece have way better songs this year. I think that what drives everyone here crazy about the Netherlands is that he’s a good looking man serving a song that targets to the listener’s feelings. Let’s be honest, the Netherlands is not a winner song, it’s just a typical song one would hear on radio while driving. When it comes to Russia, it certainly didn’t deserve the waiting, but there’s the bridge there serving… Read more »
Who gave you the right to decide which song is “the rightful winner”? Jeez, ego much?
One has his standards and his point of view. For me it doesn’t deserve to win. So simple.
Well my friend, Just because you don’t like it, does’nt mean it won’t win. Not everybody will like the winning song, this happends every year. Have you heard about different tast in Music?
He’s not even good-looking to me but I love the song so much. (Don’t get why so many gays talking about his butt)
He’s certainly not good looking, but many people here believe so…
He will not be able to show his butt on stage 🙂
As if it was his butt on the video… It’s obvious it’s a body double. 🙂
Finally logical people!!!
A song that targets the listener’s feelings… yeah, it’s a true disgrace. Such a song doesn’t deserve to win.
When it’s just an emotional bait, no, it doesn’t.
I agree. I think the Netherlands will fail in May. I have no idea why they are on top. Odds are based on reactions as well and fans overrate that song so hard! The video is what elevates the song. Without it on stage it will come clear that it doesn’t have much going for it.
And what qualitys do you have that makes you to the winner predictor? I Guess you are not always right. But who will winn this year, in your opinion? (you obviously can look into the futur, when you make comments like this).
1. Switzerland – Best result in years for Switzerland, first qualification for the Swiss in 5 years
2. Cyprus – Back-to-Back Top 5 results
3. United Kingdom – Top 10 with the juries but low televote score given public opinion of the song (which I don’t agree with but whatever)
4. Netherlands – Potential and likely winner but, not my overall favourite, sorry
5. Norway – Just a really fun guilty pleasure
Conan Osiris instagram
Wow he has 71.8 million followers???
k means thousand
I’m pretty sure one needed to be CR7 or one of the Kardashians to have that amount of followers 😛
Go Conan Osiris!!! Go Portugal!!!
Netherlands is incredibly good, the best Dutch entry since The Common Linnets. It’s emotional, haunting, avant-garde and mainstream; to the point where I can see this charting in the UK Top 40. This, if it went all the way would make a very deserving winner. However, there are 4 other songs that I personally think will do very well in Tel Aviv 1. Cyprus – when Tamta was chosen to represent Cyprus I thought about damn time and when the song was released it became a incredible successor to Fuego which put Cyprus back on the ESC map, if they… Read more »
IMHO an epic stage is the only way for Russia to reach top 3.
The song doesn’t stand out for me. I can’t remember it after a first listening
NL is special but this year we have so many ballads.
I’m surprised to smile when I hear Denmark song.
Catchy, fresh (but Leonora has a big problem: its smile. She doesn’t share)
Spain also obviously
These both entries may stand out and reach top 5.
Weak year IMHO
The way things stand right now, either Italy or the Netherlands deserve the win. They have absolutely smashing songs this year, and have been serving straight quality consistently pretty much since 2013. Italy in particular has been robbed of a righteous win on several occasions, their time has come.
But, of course, everything could change once May rolls around.
I once read on youtube smth like this: “Italy is like Leonardo diCaprio, every year everyone thinks he’s gonna win the oscar and yet he still doesn’t!” This comment was so funny and sad at the same time, cus it actually was so true!
Now, Leonardo won the Oscar, I don’t know when Italy is gonna win Esc, but I will be so happy cus they so deserve it!! Year after year sending top quality and yet some cliche pop from sweden gets more points from the juries.. such an injustice!!
I’m not a fan of any of the favourites, this year there are two many uptempo songs that are competing for votes against each other, I think the likes of Switzerland,Russia and Netherlands etc are gonna get lost on the night, yes they may do relatively well, but with not many decent ballads I can see Belgium and Slovenia doing surprisingly well. Also, I can’t believe Moldova is next to last in the betting, it’s a decent song, maybe slightly outdated, but surely will do better than 40th.
what happened to the Italian hype!? ?
Well new songs came so they got their momentry hype…things will change Al ot in two months…u don’t think Russia or netharlands are better than Italy….they not deserve to stay on top…Italy and Portugal are better
Italy and Portugal are the best songs.
