Switzerland’s Luca Hänni wants to bring Switzerland back to the final after 5 years of eliminations. And it seems like Luca is off to a good start. The latest betting odds have him flying high as fourth favourite to win it all, suggesting he should sail through the semis.

And while we are all quite keen to size up Luca, he’s been rather good about not assessing the competition. Until now. Having heard no other song of this year’s contest, he visited the newspaper Blick to react to some of his fellow artists.

The “She Got Me” singer started with Bilal Hassani from France. He seemed to understand the very personal lyrics and story behind his entry. He especially enjoyed the parts sung in French. “Very good! A quick-change artist with a great voice and very cool hook. This is a very strong contender from France!”

Tamta was next and her name reminded him of the famous Swiss dessert TamTam, similar to chocolate pudding. He enjoyed the song and started dancing a bit in his chair. Almost immediately he identified that “Replay” has the same producer as “Fuego” and even started to sing the “Fuego” lyrics over “Replay”. He said: “Of course it’s a great song, but it’s obviously from the same producer. He got the job twice, well done!”

His facial expressions while watching Hatari were somewhere between confused, speechless and surprised. The BDSM punk-rock group clearly left a mark on him, because he was feeling the mood of “Hatrið mun sigra” and felt aggressive as well. “It’s completely different, very brave. That’s not my personal style. However, that’s not a problem. They will stand out for sure and slay the stage! I’m really curious to see them!”

Luca said in his conclusion that all three are amazing artists with amazing songs. He is looking forward to meeting the other contestants, because everyone is special in their own way. “I think there will be a lot of exiting talks. Let’s go, let’s do this!”

What do you think about Luca’s reaction and do you agree with him? Tell us in the comments below!

One thing that strikes me each time I see something like this. Why only these 3? It’s like saying “here, we’ll record your reaction to countries that matters”. Hate this kind of attitude.

Hi, the sweater Luca is wearing in the pic is from his own fashion label, called SVSL. Currently being sold in Switzerland, Germany and Austria only. But I think this sweater is sold out as it is from last years’ collection.

He seems to be a kind guy, that’s cool, but it seems he doesn’t react to the good version of Roi cause it seems a new version revamped special eurovision of the Bilal’entry is coming soon.

Maybe before in Amsterdam or London, if not it seems it would be the first time a song would be discovered only in May…..no ?

1. He is gorgeous.
2. Swiss German is SO FUNNY. I speak some German and if it weren’t for the subtitles, I would have never been able to understand a thing.

At least he didn’t dismiss Icelands song like some people have. He has the courtesy to say its not for him but admires the brave decision to put this through to Eurovision. I think his song is OK., but Iceland has my vote. Went to Reykjavík for a few days last year and loved the place and the people. Come on Iceland.

Oh yeah that’s one reason to vote for a SONG to win a SONG contest, a good vacation that you had.

Dear Luca, as both your song and Replay are copycats of Fuego, at least Replay’s producer copied his own work again, but your songwriter/producer obviously stole another one’s work, which i found more pathetic…

I like that the video tells the story and follows the tone of the song. Anna is really elegant in it.

It’s another song straight out of piano ballad land. It reminds me of one of my own first failed attempts for theatre. 🙂
I like the video as well. It could have been filmed in the UK with all that rain, haha.

Seriously…. Sometimes it’s not easy to distinct between a real name and a stage name. People could just as well make fun of The Beatles… Because its a name that sound like the bugs… I doubt this will make him look bad in anyone’s eyes… Except for crazy Greek and Cypriot fans that always seem to perceive their entries as revelations from the Gods.

As a swiss, I have to clarify that TamTam is a well known pudding brand in Switzerland, so his joke wasn‘t because of the name but of what he (so did I) was thinking when first hearing that name.

He is lovely and a good guy. I hope he gets the full 24 pts from Germany and Austria but I am afraid that the juries will snub him like Czech Republic last year.

I hope the best for Switzerland as they’ve been really under the radar for a decade.

Watching the video was such a weird experience for me because I studied German in high school, and while I understood the subtitles completely Luca’s talking sounded like gibberish

He seems like a nice guy, it’s a pity that he didn’t get the chance to react to all the songs.
I really wish Switzerland finally makes it to the final (they already should last year), too bad I don’t care for the song.

Still the very best review video is Aron and Soma from AWS reviewing the songs of 2018

As a German, I’m very familiar with Luca and I have to say… I absolutely love him. He is such a kind and humble person, he has always been that way. He’s literally a Hufflepuff lol. And god, look at him! He’s so hot, it hurts my eyes. I’m sorry, but a girl has to thirst sometimes. 🙂

Yeah. While we have seen some hotness at ESC before, Luca takes hotness to a whole new level. It’s a really unfair advantage when you think about it. 😀

It also proves that the general public’s feeling about Roi is rather positive and that the song is hated only among eurofans. If you check people’s reactions on YouTube, a lot of them actually enjoy the song. I don’t know why people are so negative here.

I like “Roi” because I like Madame Monsieur’s minimalist electro-beat music. The controversies that I have been told about are over the singer himself rather than the song, which I think is unfair on him personally. One angle: I have friends who don’t want him over-playing the pride card at the ESC, as this seems to make them angry that pride is taking over the whole contest. I think it is an overreaction, personally. Second angle: Another friend told me that Bilal’s YouTube channel was a big part of the problem – Bilal is already a star, so some are… Read more »
