Switzerland revealed that Luca Hanni will represent Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 last week. And within two days the “She Got Me” singer had jumped from 14th favourite to win to seventh to fourth. Switzerland is flying high and Luca is ready to serve his Latin-infused number with plenty of spunk and pizzazz.
Swiss wiwiblogger Oliver was invited over to SRF on the day of Luca’s big reveal and he saddled up to the singer see how he’s feeling about the spangly vortex he’s about to enter.
Just like us, Luca couldn’t be happier about his Eurovision news: “It feels so good. I’ve known since December but I’ve just talked to friends and family, but now I can talk to the world!”
“We had the idea last year in summer. We had a song-writing session in Zurich and we wrote ‘She Got Me’ there. Then I sent the track to SRF, they talked to me and said: We want to do (Eurovision) with you!”
“I’m so happy!”
Luca Hanni interview | Eurovision 2019
Switzerland hasn’t nabbed a spot in the final since 2014. But Luca isn’t allowing the Swiss track record to affect him on his journey to Eurovision. He isn’t even thinking about scores just yet! “Of course there’s pressure, but for me it’s about more than that: it’s a big experience to take part in the show.”
“I just want to be myself and do a great performance of the song, and then we’ll see.”
Luca is keeping quiet about what exactly we should expect from his performance in May, but he’s dropping hints.
“The song has a drop, so of course I’ll dance because with the song, I want to have a party feeling in the arena in Tel Aviv. But I can’t dance too much, because as we all know, it’s live and I have to sing. That’s really important. I think we’ll do a lot of things with the lighting and have cool movements.”
Some of you may recognise Luca as the winner of German Idol in 2012. When asked about his experience there, he said that he’s happy that he’s not completely new to the music scene and can bring musical experience with him.
“I’m happy that I’ve done other shows before so that I know a little bit about how the cameras and the staging will work.”
But honey, nothing is on the same scale as the Eurovision stage! “I feel better with that experience, but it’s still such a big show, I’m nervous!”
In true Eurovision spirit, Luca is ready to feel his heartbeat and enjoy the ride, rather than get caught overwhelmed by the competition. “My goal for Tel Aviv is to have a great time and do the best performance I’ve ever done. It’s not about just winning, it’s about having a great time and learning more about music.”
What do you think? Are you happy with the Swiss choice for Tel Aviv? Let us know in the comments!
I almost forgot when Switzerland last qualified for the final! It was indeed 2014! That was a great entry: good vibes, up-beat and sweet!
I’m more than happy about Switzerland this year, I love the song ! It’s my favourite up-beat song of the year. Hope they do a good job with the staging and bring the party to Eurovision and all the good vibes!
Does he have a lateral lisp? His ‘sh’ sounds weird and there’s plenty of ‘sh’ in this song.
The Swiss “FUEGO”. ?
Top 3 for sure.
He look like Xavier Dolan 😉
I have a feeling this will be the highest placed upbeat song, possible winner.
He should change ”She got me” into “you got me” so it’s not so gender specific
What’s wrong with you?
I get a feeling that he might be Sebalter no2. Charming guy, with an average song that is hyped for the win but is going to end up mid table.
I have this song on #replay. Poor Tamta, this is not your year…
He reached 1 million views on ESC channel. Far behind Duncan but still “She got me” is popular at least on the channel.
And my winning song, and it really manages to be better than the music that represents Portugal , a thousand times better, this year I am in Switzerland my second home. This music makes me completely vibrate, and completely happy and not tired of listening to me .12 points from Portugal.
He’s a sweet man, I’m sure voting favor will turn to him, but those lyrics on ‘She Got Me’ are something else, damn.
He is amazing! Proud that he made it out of the German castingshow DSDS to this. So as a German I have to support him <3 Go Luca! Make Switzerland and Germany proud! Take your crown, my flawless king!
I love the Swiss entry this year, i’m gonna vote for it at 16 and 18 may (Final for sure) and no it’s not a high quality entry like the Netherlands but it’s fun and it makes me smile, this kind of songs are made for an amazing powerful staging to lift everything up and i am confident that Luca can deliver on the big stage, a big YES for me!
I know it’s too ealy to predict stuff, but for some reason i have a feeling he’ll place either 3rd or 2nd
Which, for Switzerland, would be a terrific and historic result. Switzerland hasn’t ranked that high since 1993 (Annie Cotton, Moi tout simplement, third place). I don’t genuinely believe that SRF wants to win the contest. They have been through budgetary cuts in recent years and organising the contest next year could be very challenging (although possible). SRF needs a good result to finally awake the Swiss audience and spread the popularity of the contest in the country. The general opinion among the very average Swiss is: “Eurovision? The thing where we suck every year. We should withdraw instead of wasting… Read more »
agree
Luca is so handsome and charming. I wish him all the best in the contest. It’s a catchy song and I believe Switzerland might get their best result since 2014.
he looks like a much younger sebalter, wonder if they are related.
I hope they would get their best result since 2005.
I really don’t get the hype with this song.
If it was for me, it wouldn’t go to the final.
do all of us a favor and win, swiss legend !
erm no. Its catchy and summerish, but very basic. Nothing stand out.
Luca has a realistic chance of winning, in a similar way to how Eleni almost did for Cyprus last year.
And that’s exactly what it ‘ll do: a Cyprus 2018. These kind of songs are great on stage, but in order to win, you need a bit more of originality.
bc the songs above it in the odds ain’t basic….right
You mean Italy? …. right
Above in the odds now means nothing. Basic ethnic won’t win.
A cute guy with a basic and cheesy latin pop is now 4th in the betting odds. How original! Not!
Its a great song. 1000000000% deservers it more then Portugal in the top.
If were not good-looking, he wouldn’t be in top 10 of the betting odds.
at least he is fourth, on the other hand a cute guy with a depressing cliche song is 1st in the betting odds.
His song has hit potential. It’s really catchy. I hope they can do a great staging, similar to music video.
Why is wiwibloggs promoting this particular artist so much??
If people have a brain the dont vote for a guy just because there is a article about him
The Wiwiboys are in love, we have to be too I guess.
He’s handsome young man. People will click on this
Do you actually need to ask?
It is quite obvious to me.
It’s called appreciation towards an artist
It’s called bias to a cute guy from gays and women. Period.
Not as much as they are promoting Duncan
Absolutely agree . Miki is promising.very underrated because is Spain and make it unfair.but he is from the best this year
Its a very good popsong, but its sounds like million of other popsongs out there. To win, you need a bit more originallity. Ofcourse it will qualify and will do top 10 in the final, well deserved 🙂 top 5 is possible, but cant see it win.
I was actually thinking about it too, but I’m sure Luca will have an impressive performance.
I was initially adverse to this song because it reminded me too much of Fuego but the more I listen to it the more I like it and I can’t wait for the performance in the contest. It has great potential for great staging. Fuego – I loved it from the first time I heard it but I am not a fan of similar songs in consecutive years.
Vocals, rythm and performer are all good, but those lyrics…… She’s got me dirty dancing. Whoever came up with that needs to be banned from writing. It’s the one thing that absolutely keeps me from ever voting for this entry.
Not worse than blaming Eve for Adam eating the apple. It’s a lighthearted song, I wish everyone on the stage will have the time of their life. But I respect your opinion.
And a woman wrote these lyrics… the same one that wrote “Sisters” , a song about female empowerment and bonding. So u should fight your battles somewhere else!
I don’t blame it one anyone because I have no problem with the lyrics…..Deban said it in the reaction video as well…. If you have a problem with the lyrics its your problem and not mine because I don’t have any….
I know a woman wrote the lyrics. She just put in a very bad one in my view. Dirty dancing either wants to link to the movie with the same name or describe his dancing. He’s got some moves but they’re not dirty. The closest thing we’ll get to see to dirty dancing on the ESC stage will be the Icelandic entry that looks like it came from a fetish dungeon. That might shock some of the viewers but Luka’s dancing won’t so the lyrics don’t make sense to me. It’s battling with the Israeli “I am someone” line for… Read more »
I hope they keep the 20’s vibe from the video. I imagine the bar and people dancing around the tables. That would be so cool and would really stand out as a performance!
I wonder how tall he is
According to the internet, he is 165cm tall, or 5ft 5in. But does one ever believe the net?
Seems legit. Models usually have more dependable-ish stats.
Wait, being 165 cm means he’s kind of a fluffball then.
What’s a “drop” as in “the song has a drop”?
The instrumental part in the chorus
Thanks so much

“I thought i would drop by, and drop that in.”
Thanks a lot.
oh Luca is a hottie of the year 😛 top 5 material for sure!
Luca is my favorit to win.
He will make a perfect performance and everyone will love him
That’s right, we’re taking Luca to victory. I love his music too much
For me, Luca is the sweetest guy ever participating in the ESC <3
I absolutely enjoy the song and can't stop listening to it. Maybe there are better entries this year like Arcade or Soldi, but Zurich/Basel 2020 would make me really happy 🙂
Luca and his song is my guilty pleasure, i don’t want to like it, cos it’s not my type of music and i have another favs this year, but i can’t help but listen and watch him again and again…. he is such a dope 😛
