Plenty of drama takes place on stage at a National Final. Especially when that final is Ukraine’s Vidbir 2019. Just think about Jamala asking that question. So it’s incredibly refreshing to see that when the cameras were off, the Vidbir studio was full of fun, laughter and nipple tassels.

In a vlog uploaded to her Youtube channel, Maruv has documented her behind-the-scenes Vidbir experience and it’s a real hoot. Bang!

Maruv will go down in Eurovision history as at the centre of political drama, so it’s heartwarming to see a more personal side to her in this vlog. She gives us an insight into the real camaraderie she shared with her team throughout the contest.

There’s the rehearsals, all done in “Stripper Shoes” (ouch!) as she mastered the infamous leg kick. Then there are the scenes where we see that everyone in the crew has a nickname printed on hoodies, with Maruv’s being the ever-fitting “Main Pussy Queen”. She even gets a birthday surprise before Vidbir — a Siren Song birthday cake! Seriously. There are legs made from icing, y’all!

Between the laughter, Maruv isn’t afraid to show us moments of vulnerability. Before her semi-final performance she tells the camera, “we are really exhausted. All we want is a good sleep. But we’ll get our sh*t together, we’ll cheer ourselves up. We’ll go there and deliver something”. She doesn’t shy away from the judge’s critique either, making light of the constructive criticism she received during the Semi Final.

When the cameras started rolling, Maruv certainly lived up to her reputation as Ukraine’s baddest b****. When one reporter asked “is the final performance going to be even more explicit?” following her qualification to the Final, she responded in the best way possible: “What are you talking about? I’m dressed like a monk! Sometimes my ass fell out, but only sometimes. Other than that I’m covered from head to toe.”

The vlog ends with the caption “The Rest is History…” and a promise that her video diary will be continued. We’re going to miss Maruv on the Eurovision stage, so all hail the Main Pussy Queen for filling our Ukraine shaped void with these delightful vlogs.

During 6 months after Vidbir she will earn min. 2-3 mil. USD in Russia, so she doesnt need ESC with UA:PBC limitations. Maruv needs only russian money.

Try to live without money for 6 months. Funny

Im still so extremely sad that UA:PBC did this to her, but if she would be the interval act that would be the best interval act ever, whilst Madonna would be the worst one ever,

Totally agree. Instead of negotiating to pay Madonna top dollar to put on a mediocre show at best, I’m sure MARUV will do it for a whole lot less and will put on a fantastic show.

At the very least, Siren Song should be on the 2019 album…maybe not labeled as ukaine’s song, but maybe as a bonus track

correct me if i’m wrong, but wouldn’t that get her at least a little bit of money with each copy sold?

Her song is added in the official Eurovision 2019 playlist on Spotify which means more exposure for her as the playlist is being followed by 150k followers.

I’m saying more along the lines of her earning royalty money or something like that if people bought the esc album on i-tunes or something

Not just exposure for her, but like actual money

Probably copyright issue at this point. Warner Music Russia owns rights to Siren Song. If MARUV signed that contact and ended up going, the rights would have to be transferred to EBU (standard practice for all participating songs from what I hear). But since she’s not going, EBU doesn’t own the song and they can’t legally put it on the album. Although I am sure they can come to some revenue-sharing agreement with the label, the song is popular enough due to all the events and as long as the label sees more money coming in due to it being… Read more »

Well, that depends on who they send. However, if they do Vidbir again next year, they’ll have to present the contract to all participants prior to entry, and that contract better be fair since after the events of this year anyone with half a brain would want to know what they are getting themselves into. Now, if next year’s contract is anything like this year’s one, they wouldn’t even have to worry about not qualifying, they will have no one to send as no one would even volunteer for Vidbir. Unless they have internal selection (Jamala getting boo’d this time… Read more »

Nobody wants to pay for it anyway – nor UA:PBC, nor participants, nor STB. Maruv earns more money in russia during 6 months period than in case of possible ESC victory

Maruv should be invited to perform as an interval act in the grand final.

Actually that’s a good idea, she should perform in the semifinal she was supposed to compete, not the grand final though. The grand final is already full.

you mean madonna?
pah she has nothing to do with the ESC.
ESC 2019 is a musicbattle between 41 countries who wins instead of MARUV so MARUV is the best possible intervallact.
but is that realistic?
i don’t think so because mister sand has not the balls to do it.

She can perform in the semi final like what Jessica Mauboy did in 2014.
