A couple of weeks ago, Nevena Božović was crowned the winner of Serbia’s national final Beovizija after she won over the jury and finished a respectable third with the public with her emotional ballad “Kruna” (Crown). Today, Serbia’s national broadcaster RTS have released the final, revamped version of their entry for Eurovision 2019 containing a few noticeable differences.

So, what’s new?

No major changes were made to the structure and development of the song with “Kruna” retaining the identity which won it Beovizija. But things have definitely been shaken up in terms of arrangement and production.

Attentive listeners will notice from the first note that a couple of new instruments have been added. The high-pitched violin notes are juxtaposed with deeper notes produced by the strumming of the guitar in the backing track, possibly symbolic of the deep relationship Nevena sings about. Moreover, not only do the alterations made to the backing add more texture to the song, it emphasises the fragility and delicacy of the songstress with respect to her beloved; she is willing to give her life and soul to him.

Despite the extra boost given to the arrangement of the song and the backing track, Nevena’s voice hits you the most.  The impact and power conveyed are undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with and make this song special. Overall, Nevena and her team have polished their crown and it is more than ready for the Eurovision stage this May.

Work work work…

Aside from toiling away with the revamped version of “Kruna”, Nevena and her team have been working on preparing for Tel Aviv. The Serbian singer gave us a glimpse of what she has been up to on Instagram.

In her caption, Nevena writes: “Preparations for the big stage in Israel! I cannot describe the excitement, every movement, every sung word, every look and idea that I have experienced with people (Darko Dimitrov) and the big help (Milan Gromilic) to be who I am. I’m sorry that you’ll have to wait until May to see what we’ve prepared for you… and to hear it too!”

What do you make of the revamped version of “Kruna”? Do you prefer it to the original version? Let us know down in the comments below.

Much better. That violin deninitely saved the song.

I think the song is still good but they have slightly overdone it with the ethnic style violin. It is more of a Klezmer/Arabic sound than Balkan. Perhaps it is to appeal more to the audience in Israel??

Musically, it was already fine.
Would like to see them put some effort into making a music video or something to really push the song before the contest. I mean, if Montenegro can come up with something along with their tourism office, why can’t Serbia?

Well, Beovizija coasted much more then Montevizija so it’s understandable

They are tone deaf for underrating the song

Top 10 material, if staging would be as stunning as her voice. Don’t understand why people call it NQ when it is crystal clear juries won’t leave this behind.

They did a great job on the revamp. Violin and electric guitar at the same track, I’m in.

Cleaner and polished, more space for instrumentals too. Not many similar songs competing in the 1st semi-final. Maybe Greece will be Serbia’s biggest opponent to qualify, but those are only two female “ballads or similars”, so that shouldn’t be a problem to them.
Serbia is also playing too safe, and SF1 is the weirdo one, so that might help them, or make Kruna completely forgettable. Let’s see..

The song itself is stunning. I just don’t feel it’s groundbreaking enough. A very safe choice. Stunning, nonetheless.
